LG L24 isai for KDDI with ultra narrow bezel leaks, could be unveiled on May 1st

LGL22 Isai that was unveiled as a part of KDDI's Winter 2013 lineup few months back would get a successor soon. @evleaks has posted a press render of the upcoming LGL24 isai smartphone headed to Japan's KDDI network. The smartphone has a narrow bezel, similar to Sharp's Aquos phone and is expected to come with a display size of 5.5-inch or more. HTC J One, a variant of the HTC One with a micro SD card slot was unveiled last year for Japan’s KDDI network in their Summer 2013 lineup. The LGL24 isai is expected to be unveiled in this year's KDDI Summer 2014 lineup next month. The date on the press render shows 1st May, so it could be unveiled on the same date. The LGL24 has a similar volume rocker placement on the back, just below the camera, similar to the LGL22. It also shows a new UI that is likely to be Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a similar isai branding on the bezel, below the display and uses on-screen buttons. It also has 4G support as shown in the screenshot. Specifications of the smartphone is not available yet.

Gmail gets option to attach images backed up using Google+

Google has added a new feature for Gmail that lets you attach any image that has been automatically backup to Google+ from your mobile devices. This option would be enabled using a new Insert Photo button in Gmail that lets you access all your images. Gmail already has an option to attach images from your Google Drive. You can also resize in-line images after attaching them, just by dragging on a corner. Google+ for Android got Auto Backup option long back and the and the iOS app got full resolution image backup last year that lets you store full resolution images easily. This feature would be more useful to people who would wish to mail the images they shot on their mobile devices. You have to enable the Auto Backup feature in Google Plus for the Android and iOS first. Since the Google+ apps for Android and iOS have option to backup images only when you are connected to WiFi, this would save your data. This feature would start rolling out today in Gmail on the web.

Amazon smartphone with 6 cameras, 4.7 inch display leaked

A few days back we posted rumors about Amazon's smartphone ambitions, today we have a better look at it. BGR has managed to get hold of an image of a prototype device which is said to be Amazon's smartphone that will be launched later this year. Before you write off the design, it's worth knowing that the prototype is wrapped in a shell that hides the actual design. The six camera set up is also quite visible here which lines up with all previous rumors and patent filings. Set in a 5+1 configuration, the Amazon smartphone will have a standard camera at the back as well at the front for video calls. In addition to these, four additional cameras will be placed up front for enabling glasses free 3D. These cameras are believed to be low power infrared sensors. There's not much known about the specifications but it is expected that the phone will run on Qualcomm silicon and will have 2GB of RAM. With every flagship device, HTC also brings a revamped version of it's own Sense UI that build upon the core Android interface. Now in it's sixth generation, the interface is almost the perfect balance between the minimalism of stock Android and additional features, UI elements brought forth by HTC. This interface debuted on the just launched HTC One (M8) but as expected, last year's flagship ie the HTC One will also be getting it via an upgrade. Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC USA, has gone on record to state that the update will be available by the end of May. Samsung Gear wearable devices compatible with 20 Galaxy devices

Samsung launched the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit in India and other countries globally. The company has announced that all these devices would support 20 Galaxy devices including 12 smartphones and 8 Galaxy tablets. The first Samsung Galaxy Gear was compatible only with three Galaxy devices initially and later got updated to support more Galaxy devices. These new Samsung Gear devices would be compatible with Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 Active , Galaxy S4 Mini,  Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 3 Neo, Galaxy Note 2,  Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Mega 5.8. In Korea it would also be compatible with the Galaxy S4 LTE-A and the Galaxy Round. Oppo R1S with 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon processor gets certified in China

Oppo R1 that was unveiled back in December last year had a quad-core MediaTek processor, Oppo R1S codenamed R8007 has been certified on TENNA in China. This is expected to come with a 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928) processor and would come with the same 5-inch HD display. It would run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with Oppo's own Color ROM on top and come with an upgraded 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.  The phone resembles the Oppo R1 and is expected to come in black and white colors. It would come with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, but the battery capacity is not available yet. Samsung ChatON messenger now lets you translate between Hindi and English

Samsung updated their ChatON messenger app to version 3.5 for Android earlier this month that brought new features. At an event Samsung India has revealed that the ChatON 3.5 would also offer instant message translation between English and Hindi. It also supports 14 Indian languages and has Indianized Anicons or animated icons. It also detailed more feature aimed at Indian users. Other features include, option to share files up to 1GB at a time, recall option to cancel messages sent to wrong person, real-time location sharing and more. The location sharing feature powered by the integration of Glympse application offers real-time location sharing with ChatON buddies for a specified period of time. LG India promotes Knock Code feature with new contest

LG introduced the dual SIM variants of the L90 and L70 smartphones in India recently. This has Knock Code feature that was first introduced on the G Pro 2. All the latest F Series, L Series III smartphone and the LG G2 mini has the Kock Code feature and LG has also promised to bring the feature to LG G2 and G Flex users through a software update. It would also be available on LG’s future mobile devices. The Knock Code pattern offers about 80,000 possible security combinations and can be entered on a blank screen using two to eight taps. Google Project Ara modular smartphone coming in January 2015

Google announced the Project Ara developers conference for April 15th and 16th that began yesterday. Google would release the Project Ara gray phone in January 2015, according to CNET. The Project Ara team from Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division at Google is working hard to bring the modular smartphone that would let users to swap the components easily to upgrade the phone. Google released a Modular Development Kit last week that would let developers create different modules that will eventually turn up on your own custom Ara phone. Motorola announced Project Ara, an open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones. Google sold Motorola to Lenovo, but it announced that it will keep Project Ara. The generic gray phone will cost developers about $50 to make and is purposely designed to be drab to encourage owners to be creative, and personalize their devices, Paul Eremenko, head of Project Ara said at the conference. Google Play Store clocks the most downloads but still lags behind App Store in revenue

According to new statistics released by App Annie Index, Google's Play Store exceeded the iOS app store by 45% in total downloads but still lagged behind when it comes to actual revenues. Worldwide, it is clear that Android is dominating the market, with over 80% marketshare, which has led to a surge in downloads from emerging markets like Russia and Brazil, but the downside is that a large number of apps on Android are free or based on the freemium model, which drastically lowers the barrier of entry, keeping the target markets in mind, whereas Apple's iOS enjoys higher marketshare and install base in developed countries. This news might not surprise you, but head past the break for some more interesting analysis based on the data. Lets start with Android. Lava has launched the Iris 504Q+, the successor of last year's Iris 504Q. Samsung to launch Tizen smartphone in Q2 2014, Android Wear smartwatch coming later this year?

Samsung was expected to launch their first Tizen-based smartphone last year, but it didn't happen. Even after some leaks, we didn't get to see the Tizen smartphone at the MWC earlier this year. Samsung senior VP for product strategy, Hankil Yoon has confirmed to Reuters that it would launched the first Tizen-based smartphone this quarter. Samsung debuted the first Tizen-based Gear line-up at the MWC, but it also plans to launch an Android-based smartwatch later this year. Samsung is also one of the partners for the Android Wear, Google's first Android wearable platform. The upcoming Samsung smartwatch could be based on Android Wear. Both LG and Motorola have also confirmed their Android Wear smartwatch plans. Google introduces Chrome Remote Desktop app for Android

Ever wanted to access your computer from your phone while out and about? There have been a wide range of RDP (Remote Desktop) applications available on the Play Store but Google just made things a bit more official. With the newly introduced Chrome Remote Desktop  app for Android, Google will let you access your Mac or PC no matter where you are. The application works in a similar fashion to the Chrome Remote Desktop screen sharing service that Google had launched earlier. Alongside the Chrome Web Store application, you'll need to download a companion server application for your Mac, PC or Linux machine. Once installed, the application will gain access to your computer and not only will you be able to see your desktop, you will also be able to access files and folders from afar. First inklings of such an application first surfaced earlier this year when an Android client was made available in source form. Google Camera app now available for download on the Play Store

Google has released their stock camera app in the Play Store for all the Android devices running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and later. This has a new interface and adds a lens blur feature like DSLR. Lens Blur lets you change the point or level of focus after the photo is taken. Once the photo is taken using the Lens Blur mode, you can use the depth-of-field slider to give it a bokeh effect. It offers 100% viewfinder to capture maximum resolution of the scene and also has a large capture button. You can also use the volume buttons to capture images. You can slide from the left to get to Panorama, Photo Sphere, Lens Blur, Camera or Video. Settings offers option to reduce the image and video resolution. Advanced settings lets you enable manual exposure. These feature might vary depending on your devices. Google Keyboard that was launched last year is not available globally yet, but the Camera app is available globally, which is definitely a great thing. Google Q1 2o14 earnings reported at $15.42 billion, grow 19% YoY

Earlier today, Google revealed its results for Q1 2014 and posted revenues of $15.42 billion. Earnings per share were reported at $6.27 and this was below the estimated $6.42 per share. The company missed analyst estimates of $15.52 billion in revenue and it can be attributed to Mountain View's recent stock split amongst other things. The stock split a few weeks back doubled the number of shares held by an individual and cut down value from $1060 to $530 per share. Additionally, the company has made very interesting moves over the past few months. The acquisition of Nest, renewed approach towards consumer oriented wearables like smartwatches come to mind. Fringe projects like the focus on modular phones too has captured the imagine. The company also sold off Motorola which was it's biggest acquisition so far. Advertising, media and applications however remain the main source of revenue for Mountain View. Google has managed to increase its revenue by 19% year on year and this is despite of increased R&D expenses. Research expenses went up $500 million to reach 12-14% of revenues.

LG unveiled the L Series III lineup that includes L40, L70 and L90 at the MWC 2014 back in February. Both the L70 and L90 smartphones went on sale in India recently. The LG L65 Dual went on sale in Russia recently. Now @eveaks has leaked the press image of the single SIM variant, L65. It has a 4.3-inch WVGA display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Other than the screen size, most of the specifications are similar to the L70 Dual. This has a dedicated SIM switch key, similar to the other L Series devices. The single SIM variant is expected to come with similar features, but this would have a hardware home button along with capacitive touch buttons on either sides. Google updates YouTube for Android with new features

Google seems to be hard at work in updating its Android apps as we have had leaks suggesting complete overhaul for its Gmail app and Calendar app. Google had also just launched its own Google Camera application on the Play Store yesterday and today, it has updated the YouTube application for Android. Apple reportedly teams up with Shazam to integrate song identification into iOS

Apple has partnered Shazam to work on a song identification tool for iOS 8, according to reports from Bloomberg. The feature will allow users to identify a song using their iPhone or iPad's microphone. The report states that users will be able to access the song identification feature via Apple's digital voice assistant, Siri. Hence, Siri will answer once a user asks "What song is playing" as it will generate the data from Shazam which has more than 90 million users. It is reported that the feature will be directly integrated into iOS and will not need to be downloaded as a standalone app. Giving insights about iTunes Radio, the report said that Apple is preparing to expand its radio service internationally and take it beyond the US. Last month, there were reports suggesting a possibility of a iTunes store for Android while earlier this month, it was reported that Apple is planning to give iTunes music store a makeover in order to boost flagging digital music sales.
