Lastpass, the popular password storage app has added support for fingerprint scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S5. Users can now swipe their finger instead of typing their master password to login to web services and apps.   In the wake of recent Internet security threats, we are excited to be able to provide our customers with another layer of biometric security, consistent with what we've done on the desktop for years. Using fingerprint authentication saves LastPass users time by eliminating the need to re-enter the master password, but more importantly, it provides an additional layer of security. Knowing that a personal fingerprint is the only route to access critical information stored in the LastPass app eases our customers’ minds and helps mitigate the risk for a potential security breach in the future. said Joe Siegrist, LastPass CEO and Co-Founder. in Lastpass blog Adding biometric security support is beneficial as it reduces the risk of disclosing the password at the the time of typing. Apple first added Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the iPhone 5s.  LastPass stores all of a particular users passwords and with the new updated app, users can use the GS5 fingerprint sensor rather than type in a master password or PIN to access this data. ...

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy K zoom, the company’s latest camera-centric smartphone with a 20.7-megapixel at an event in Singapore recently. We got some hands-on time with the camera phone and also managed to compare it with some phones, including the Galaxy S5. Next to the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy K zoom looks exactly similar on the front. The Galaxy K zoom has a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display and the S5 has a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen. Both these run on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with the latest Touchwiz UI. Check out the comparison. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn__c2IAFuY The Galaxy K zoom has the same dotted patterns on the back, similar to the Galaxy S5. This offers better grip to the user. Since the K zoom has a curved design, it doesn't looks big like the S4 zoom. It also has a new retractable 10x optical zoom lens. The S5 has a 16-megapixel camera on the back with Ultra HD video recording, but the Galaxy K zoom only supports 1080p video recording at 60fps. On the sides, the K zoom has some plastic finish along with chrome rim, but the Galaxy S5 has chrome finish completely on the sides. The Galaxy K zoom has OIS that is not present in ...

Motorola definitely created a splash in the market when it launched it's surprisingly affordable yet capable Moto G. Now, the company is all set to announce its next device which is expected to "connect more people to the world's information and each other." To be launched at an event in London on 13th May, the phone will undoubtedly be priced within reach of most people. What remains unclear though if it will be successor to the Moto G or an even lower priced device. There have been rumblings of a device that touches an even lower price point dubbed the Moto E. The other possibility is of a Moto G refresh which largely keeps the same hardware and design but adds LTE support. Motorola's invitation for the event hints at the device being "made to last, priced for all" which makes us think that it might be a device specifically aimed at developing markets. This'll be Motorola's first device after the Lenovo acquisition and it would make sense to tap into the huge Chinese and Indian markets where the Moto G has already made its presence felt. We'll have more on the next Motorola device as we hear more, in the meanwhile ...

Qualcomm spins off location aware business into separate entity

Qualcomm today announced its intentions to spin off it's bluetooth beacon business into a separate entity dubbed as Gimbal Inc. Gimbal was Qualcomm's take on Apple's iBeacon and the company had started selling the proximity beacon in December. While Qualcomm will remain a substantial stakeholder in the business, it plans to sell off the Gimbal business to third party investors. Working in the same vein as iBeacon, the technology allows stores to create proximity based networks that can communicate with consumer smartphones. With location information of each shopper within the a store, it will be possible for retail locations to notify the consumer of special offers or to perhaps load up a loyalty card. Because iBeacon uses bluetooth positioning to narrow down your location instead of GPS, it can be a lot more accurate when used indoors. Qualcomm expects the spin off to be completed in May itself after which the beacon business will continue on it's own as Gimbal Inc. AEG, RFID company Zebra technologies and a range of corporate investors are believed to be part of the group involved.

Google Glass, the futuristic wearable product from the Mountain View company, has been all the rage among the tech community. But, with an astronomical entry cost of 1500$ and a limited invite-only model, it is extremely clear that it is not ready for the market. But in the future, it will be ready, but what will be its approximate cost? We can not know now, due to the rapid commoditization of technology, but we can surely get an idea of what it costs Google to make the current version of Glass, thanks to a teardown by the popular site going by the same name. It estimates the total cost of the "Bill of materials" to under 80$ for Google. Shocked? Well, don't be. The Google Glass, although a marvelous effort of engineering, uses components that are already in use, in mobile phones. Like a camera unit, a Texas Instruments processor with Bluetooth and GPS, and even the common RAM modules. Breaking down these costs is easy, and it mounts to an exact 79.78$, as explained in this image - The first question that will pop into your head is, why the heck does Google charge so much for Glass? Well, there is ...
