Motorola Moto X+1, the successor of the Moto X has been rumored for the past few weeks. Motorola's Moto Maker website that lets users create custom design for Moto X now has a new page that mentions "Moto X+1 Details", but the logo seems to be missing. According to a recent leak from @evleaks, the Moto X+1 would come with 25 custom backplate options, including four leather options. We still don't have any other details of the Moto X+1, but we can definitely expect a considerable upgrade to the current Moto X. Since the new placeholder is already up, the announcement could not be far. Motorola recently announced separate events in London and India on May 13th to announce an affordable smartphone that is "made to last". It is not clear if we can expect the Moto X successor at the launch event next week along with the rumored Moto E. It could also announce a separate event soon for the Moto X+1 launch, like it did for the Moto X. Source | Via

File management is one of the most underrated features of a mobile operating system. For any platform to be truly independent, a file manager that allows local storage and management of any kind of file, is a necessity and with Windows Phone 8.1, this is finally happening. After moving to WinRT APIs for its latest mobile release, Microsoft has finally added the ability to download or upload files on the phone's browser or through various apps, using the file picker. The file picker naturally necessitates a file manager, which will be released as a standalone app by Microsoft, as revealed and teased on a Reddit AMA, by the company's Windows Phone champion, Joe Belfiore. The app is almost ready and is reportedly set to release this month. While this feature reveal is by no means a groundbreaking addition to the OS (we already have a lot of decent file managers on the Windows store taking advantage of the said APIs), but what is important, is the acknowledgement, from Microsoft of a feature that users have long wanted on its mobile platform. Even Google's pure version of Android comes without a file manager app, so this is something encouraging to see, especially ...

Sony had announced the XPERIA Z2 back in February at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Spain along with Samsung's Galaxy S5. However due to certain production issues, the phone's availability has been very scarce. It's available in Singapore currently and it's availability has been announced around Europe as well. Other countries worldwide are yet to receive the device so we thought we'll bring you this unboxing. The device is running on Android 4.4.2 out of the box. The contents of the box are very simple and nothing out of the normal. What you get in the box is: Sony XPERIA Z2 microUSB Cable Wall Adapter Earphones Booklet and Warranty Information The packaging and box contents may vary from region to region. Certain places have reported a special package of the device that comes with a dock and noise cancelling earphones as well. Perhaps this would be a premium bundle and might cost you extra. In the UK for example, customers who had pre-ordered the device are getting freebies and other goodies since the launch was delayed by a bit. But our package didn't have either of them. Sony did however provide a 3 month extension to your warranty which you have to register online within 14 days of making ...

Jury says Samsung infringed Apple patents, orders to pay $119 million in fine

The long going Apple and Samsung patent trial received another hearing and decision from the US federal jury. In its verdict, the jury found Samsung guilty of infringing on two of four Apple patents, the '647 patent for data detectors and the '721 patent for "slide-to-unlock". However, the jury said that Samsung did not infringe the '959 "universal search" patent or the '414 "background sync" patent. The jury ordered Samsung to pay $119.6 million in damages against $2 billion demanded by Apple in its latest verdict. The Galaxy S3, one of Samsung’s flagship products, accounted for the biggest portion, contributing $52 million worth of the damages. In a statement released to US media, Apple portrayed the verdict as a victory that “reinforces what courts around the world have already found: that Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products.” Meanwhile, the jury also found that Apple infringed Samsung’s ’449 patent and awarded the company to pay $158,400. Samsung in turn has argued that Apple should pay $6 million for infringing on its own patents for video features on smartphones. This is the second jury verdict in the high-profile Apple vs Samsung case where first one took place in August 2012. A separate ...

Apple scoops up low-power display company Luxuve

Apple has acquired LED maker Luxuve for an undisclosed sum, according to a TechCrunch report. The startup specializes in power-efficient displays that could be used in small consumer devices lacking space for bulky screens or batteries. “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” Apple said. The report suggests that Apple could be looking at both micro-LED's minimal power requirements and its improved brightness as benefits to its mobile range. In last month's earnings call Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company had bought 24 companies in the last 18 months. Founded in 2009, not much is known about Luxuve except that it had raised $43 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins and others. The startup has filed a number of patents that could help devices maintain long battery life while keeping screen brightness high. It can be predicted that Apple might have acquired the start-up to use this technology in its much awaited foray in wearable tech with its rumoured iWatch. Apple is holding its annual developer conference next month, when it is anticipated to unveil new range of softwares and products. Last month there were reports that Apple is planning to buy Japanese chipmaker Renesas SP Drivers. Via: ...

The world's most popular Windows Phone turned into a life saver for a police man in Sao Paulo, Brazil where a couple of robbers opened fire at him in his house. The Lumia 520, which was sitting in his back pocket took a bullet, and in the end saved his life, and literally his behind too. Nokia, being known for its build quality, will certainly take this as a positive result, but we are sure any phone would have done the same. This happened in broad daylight, when the military police officer, aged 24 was just returning to his home with his uniform in hands, as he was off duty and wanted to wash it at this home. As he entered the house where his family members were held hostage, the two criminals opened fire, seeing his uniform. They reportedly fired two shots, once the officer began to flee, and one of them hit his buttocks, with the Lumia 520 taking that hit and the other shot reportedly hit the neighbour's gate. While the criminals fled the scene, the officer returned to find that the pair took off a lot of valuables. The story is not entirely rosy when you consider that ...

Since its entry into the Indian market, Gionee has faced an uphill struggle against established competition and market preconceptions. Through effective marketing campaigns and quality products, the brand is seeing itself in an ever improving position. With the Gionee Elife E7 Mini, it tries to bring some of the learnings from the flagship E7 to a more affordable price point while also adding yet another twist to the smartphone.Hardware At first glance, the Gionee Elife E7 Mini looks like a surprisingly handsome device. Available in a range of pastel shades, we got our hands on the black unit which has exemplary build quality. The front of the phone comprises mostly of the tack sharp 4.7 inch screen which is surrounded by fairly slim bezels on the left and right. Up above, the phone houses its USP ie the rotating camera assembly. To maintain symmetry, the bezel below the display is equally large and includes capacitive buttons. As we mentioned earlier, the design of the phone espouses a design philosophy and attention to detail that isn't often seen at this price point. Hardware lines run sharp along the side of the phone while the top and button edges curve gently over. On the right ...
