Chang Dong-hoon, head of the mobile design team at Samsung Electronics offered to resign last week and has since been replaced according to a report published by Reuters. Lee Min-hyouk, the VP for Mobile Design at Samsung will be replacing Chang. Lee is well known for being the youngest senior executive at Samsung. Lee played a major role in the design of the Galaxy series of devices which are largely responsible for the massive sales demand of Samsung handsets. That said, Samsung has been fighting patent litigation the world over because of similarities drawn between the Galaxy range of devices and Apple's iPhone. Apple claims that Samsung has copied the iPhone design language. Consumers too have shown less than stellar interest in the new flagship, the Galaxy S5. Continued use of the same design and lack of any substantial hardware innovation means are key factors. The Galaxy S5 has also been universally panned for the quality of materials used with 'band aid' like design being a common term used to describe the faux leather back. It remains to be seen if Lee, who goes by the moniker 'Midas', can change around Samsung's design related woes.

While Android tablets have proven to sell a fair few numbers in  the entry level segment, the upper end has so far been dominated by the iPad. Samsung has made a few attempts at making a dent in this segment but has failed. As part of it's attempt to throw mud at the wall and see what sticks, the Korean giant has created a ginormous tablet that doesn't really solve any specific problems. Could the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 still be worth the small fortune it commands? We find out in our review. Hardware It is hard to mistake the Note Pro 12.2 as anything other than a Samsung product. Nigh identical to the Note 10.1, it carries the same design identity as seen on other high end Samsung devices across product categories. The front is dominated by the gargantuan 12.2 inch display. Below it is a hardware button that works as a home key. This is flanked by capacitive buttons on either side that correspond to back and the multitasking menu respectively. We're quite impressed by how Samsung has managed to find the sweet spot for bezel size. Just appropriate, the bezels are wide enough to hold the tablet comfortably but ...

With an aim to research on 5G technologies Nokia and NTT DOCOMO have announced a collaboration. The duo will work on research and standardization of 5G mobile communication technologies to work on a 5G proof of concept (PoC) system. The collaboration follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the companies in January earlier this year to research future radio access experimental systems. To meet the demand for extreme capacity and performance, future 5G networks will need to overcome the challenges that will become relevant for operators, such as guaranteeing cell-edge rates in excess of 100Mbps and reducing latency by a factor of 10. Future wireless networks will interconnect not just humans but also machines and objects, creating a vibrant overlay of virtual and physical worlds with a huge variety of use cases. Together with the industry, we need to make sure that 5G technology offers the right tenets to serve these use cases flexibly and profitably. said Hossein Moiin, executive vice president & chief technology officer of Networks in a company statement. Samsung is pushing Android KitKat update to a line of Galaxy devices, as per leaked document shared by SamMobile. Devices like the Galaxy S3 LTE, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 will get the latest Android KitKat 4.4 update by June. Galaxy Note II LTE, Galaxy Note 3 Neo and the Galaxy S3 LTE will receive Android 4.4.2 updates by the end of this month. The international Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) update has been canceled, according to this document due to some "unsolved problems". The report also states that Samsung has started testing Android 4.4.3 for the Galaxy S5 and that some of the devices in the list might upgrade directly to 4.4.3 instead of 4.4.2, which hints at the possibility that the updates might take longer to arrive. It must be noted that the dates on this list are subject to change. Earlier this year, Samsung had rolled out KitKat 4.4 update to Galaxy Note 3, , Galaxy S4 and and Galaxy Note 2 in India. Android KitKat is now present on 8.5% of all the global active Android devices as per latest numbers from Google's Android Developers Dashboard.

Xolo launched a slightly updated version of the Xolo Q1010 in the form of Xolo Q1010i with the minor update including a better 8MP Sony EXMOR R Sensor. Other than the upgrade in the camera department, the Xolo Q1010i is pretty much very similar to the Xolo Q1010 in terms of performance, build quality and design. Lets check out how the upgraded camera and the device perform together. Design, Build Quality and Handling The Xolo Q1010i is one solid smartphone in the price range and quite the looker. The build quality is pretty good and the device feels very solid in the hand. The screen to phone ratio isn't the greatest and a lot of real estate goes wasted with the not so narrow bezels. The choice of design and materials for the Xolo Q1010i is pleasing as they have decided to go with a soft matte back cover and a contrasting shiny metal rim running across the device. The metal rim across the center of the device is a bit protruding all throughout and that makes the device feel a little thinner than it actually is. Xolo Q1010i feels quite comfortable in the hand because of the grippy matte back. On the front, ...
