Sony Xperia Z3 surfaced online via leaks earlier this week. Now, the handset which has not been made official by Sony as yet,  has passed the FCC in the US. The Z3 is set to replace Sony's Xperia Z2 flagship phone that was released at the start of the year. It is listed at the FCC under the IDs PM-0800 and PM-0801, which stand for model names D6603 and D6616 respectively. The FCC filing also revealed that the device has LTE connectivity on 2, 4, 5, 7, 13, and 17 bands, along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC and an IR blaster. Unfortunately the FCC filing did not reveal any more specifications on the new Sony Xperia Z3, but it is speculated that the handset would come with a 5.2 inch display with a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Other specifications rumored include 20.7MP camera, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, 16GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM. It must be noted that it not clear that the device spotted at FCC is the Xperis Z3 but it is alleged to be. Via

iPhone 6 rumors have been looming around for quiet some time now. Today, a new one has added the lot saying that it will feature Sony's IMX220 Exmor camera sensor. This means that iPhone 6 will boast of 13 MP and a 1/2.3″ sensor, capable of recording 1080p videos. If this is true it will be an upgrade from the current iPhone 5S which has 8-megapixel and 1/3.2'' sensor. The iPhone 4s and 5 used Sony Exmor IMX145 sensor. A latest rumor this month stated that the Apple iPhone 6 will launch in early September. Apple is expected to release a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6; however, it is unclear if both devices will launch simultaneously. Last month a report noted that an optical image stabilization system will be exclusively featured in the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6, while the smaller 4.7-inch version utilizes an improved lens module. Meanwhile, this week a report stated that Apple A8 (Apple’s customized SoC) that might feature on one/both of these models will have a 2GHz clock, quite a jump from 1.3GHz on the current Apple A7 SoC that sits in iPhone 5S. Microsoft announces 18,000 job cuts next year, 12,500 are from Nokia

"Starting to Evolve Our Organization and Culture" reads Nadella's latest mail to his employees which details Microsoft's 18,000 job cuts next year. The Redmond based software giant has just announced that it wants to go lean and agile, in an effort to re-align with the company's new vision, a product of the new leadership headed by Satya Nadella. Out of the 18,000 job cuts, 12,500 are from Nokia's devices and services division the company acquired recently. This completely sends home the point that Microsoft is no longer interested in making phones, as the majority of Nokia's full time working staff are from manufacturing facilities the company has, around the world. Satya Nadella gives two main reasons for the company's decision to announce these job cuts - "drive greater accountability, become more agile and move faster" Microsoft wants to be faster in execution and be more agile, but with a natural byproduct of job cuts that mostly don't align with the overall vision. This also means organizational changes like a flatter leadership structure, with managers managing more people than before, which they hope will driver more impact. "to integrate the Nokia Devices and Services teams into Microsoft" The Nokia acquisition was a big deal for Microsoft, ...

Microsoft just killed Nokia’s feature phones and X Android devices

Stephen Elop's e-mail to Microsoft employees in the devices and services division and an internal e-mail from Jo Harlow, acquired by BGR, have officially made clear the future of Nokia's feature phones and the recently launched X range of Android devices. Microsoft will no longer make the Android-based Nokia X devices, but "select designs" from that range will be running Windows Phone in the future. This is understandable, as the company had never been approving of this effort from the Elop-era Nokia, but the axing of the feature phone business, which Jo Harlow details as it being under "maintenance mode" is a tacit admission of the smartphone business completely taking over, and a failure of conversion that Nokia had wanted. In hind sight, Nokia was never really a fit for Microsoft, as the company visions hadn't aligned, at all. But in the wake of a change in leadership at both the companies, one had hoped that the new strategy from Microsoft would be accommodating of the new decisions, but Satya Nadella has made it apparent that it's not the case. However, on the future of Microsoft's phone business, Elop notes - With our focus, we plan to consolidate the former Smart Devices ...

Sony started rolling out Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) update for the Xperia T2 Ultra (v19.1.A.0.473) and its dual SIM variant T2 Ultra Dual (19.1.C.0.116) from yesterday. The new update brings option to move apps to the microSD card in addition to new features. This was not mentioned in the official changelog from Sony. Even the latest Android 4.4.4 update for the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and the Z Ultra did not bring Apps to SD feature. It is not clear when Sony plans to bring this feature to these smartphones. Today Sony announced that it would update the Xperia E1, Xperia M2, and Xperia M2 Dual to Android 4.4, so there are chances for these smartphones to get the update. This feature is most required for low-end phones with less internal memory. If you are using the Xperia T2 Ultra or T2 Ultra Dual with the new KitKat update, go to Apps inside settings to move them to the SD card. The "On SD card" option shows the apps that are compatible to move. Via | Images Via

Samsung plans to launch the LTE variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900I) in India soon, according to a report from Manish Khatri from Mahesh Telecom. The 3G variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900H) that was launched in India back in April is powered by a Octa-Core Exynos 5422 SoC with Intel XMM6360 for 3G HSPA+ ( up to 42 Mbps) connectivity. The LTE (SM-G900I) variant will be powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801. Since all the flagship smartphones starting from the Galaxy S3 were launched only in 3G variants with Exynos chip, this would be the company's first flagship smartphone with Snapdragon chip. This has support for LTE bands - B1 (2,100), B2 (1,900), B3 (1,800), B5 (850), B7 (2,600), B8 (900), B40 (2,300) and B28 (700), so this should work with Airtel that operates their TD-LTE service using 2300 MHz spectrum. Airtel offers voice services on LTE using Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution in several cities across India. LG launched the LTE variant of the LG G3 in India back in March. Other than LTE support and Snapdragon 801, all the features are similar to the 3G variant. According to the retailer the MRP of the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE would be Rs. 56,000 and the MOP is expected to be ...

Xiaomi Mi Pad Hands on and First Impressions

If there was one product at the Xiaomi India launch event we'd have really wanted announced for the Indian market, it'd be the Mi Pad. Launched just a couple of months back, the tablet with a 7.9 inch 20148x1536 screen resembles a lot of the iPad mini. The form factor, the size and even the UI pretty much gives the fact away that Xiaomi has its cross hairs squarely aimed at the iPad, and is not afraid to show it. Sporting a really powerful Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset on the inside, the mini tablet claims to be really fast and powerful, but will be available at a price lesser than what the iPad mini with a retina display is selling for. The 16 GB version sells for approximately 14k INR, which is about half the price of the retina-display iPad mini. With that said, we were really interested to check the device out in person, so here is a quick hands on video we made from the event, to see what the device is like - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B6J8uA2mkE The first thing we noticed about the device was how good the build quality was, despite the price, but this is a mainstay that we've ...

Xiaomi announced a total of three devices for the Indian market, the Mi3, the Redmi 1s and the Redmi Note. While the Mi3 is a flagship and the Redmi 1S occupies the lower end, the Redmi Note tries to sit in the median of the other two, with phablet ambitions and a similarly attractive price tag. The phone was announced for Rs. 9,999, a compelling price point for a phablet, especially with the kind of specifications it packs. The Redmi Note sports a 5.5 inch 720p screen, Mediatek's MT6592 octa-core processor, a 13 megapixel camera and even 2 GB of RAM to support the processor. The spec sheet alone got us intrigued about the device in question, and hence we took it for a spin in front of the camera for a hands on video - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNEhgoC_744 The Redmi Note is a big phone, no doubt about that. It has a 5.5 inch screen and to accommodate a screen of that size, the designers have gone big on the dimensions, interestingly on the thickness side too. While it is not the thickest phone around, it does feel quite bulky, and that may be just due to the weight too. The design and the ...

Samsung unveiled their new Tab S products in New York and surprisingly, they didn't take much time to bring it to India either. There were two Tab S devices announced, S possibly standing for Super AMOLED, because, lets face it, these new Samsung tablets are all about the screen. In India, the Tab S 8.4 and the Tab S 10.5 were launched for Rs. 37,800 and Rs. 44,800 respectively, catering to the premium market segment with mobile-only versions, while in the US, Samsung has squarely targeted the Tab S devices at iPad Air and retina iPad mini price points with WiFi-only versions. These are clearly decisions driven by market necessities and strategy, so with that in mind, we took a look at the mini version of the Tab S first to detail our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyjcfK6DXto The first ever takeaway from the Tab S devices is obviously the screen, more so on the Tab S 8.4.
