Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus (SM-G350E), an entry-level smartphone has been listed on the official Samsung India eStore. It is the same Samsung Galaxy Star Advance smartphone that was said to be launching in India. It has a 4.3-inch (800 x 480 Pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 3-megapixel rear camera with LED flash.
It come with dual SIM support, 3G connectivity, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage with microSD expansion slot and has leather-like back cover.

The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus comes in Black and White colors and is priced at Rs. 7,335 on the eStore, but it is currently out of stock. Galaxy Star Advance with the same specifications is available on Snapdeal for Rs. 8,267, so it is not clear if Samsung would launch the phone in India as Star 2 Plus or Star Advance.
Microsoft has released Live Lock Screen Beta for Windows Phone 8.1 handsets. It was announced at the Build 2014 earlier this year. Since Microsoft has started rolling out Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Cyan for Windows Phone 8 handsets, more users can try out this new lockscreen app that lets you choose from 6 new lock screen layouts.
Each layout has a revamped design for the time, date, and notifications, as well as a unique unlock animation. You can choose background images manually or use Bing wallpapers that are downloaded automatically everyday. The app works even on entry-level smartphones with 512MB RAM.
Most users are reporting slight lag between pressing the power button to unlock the device and animated lockscreen to show up, even in top-end Lumia smartphones like Lumia 930. Since this is the first beta the app might be improved in coming versions.

Lava is all set to launch the Iris 460 in the Iris series running Android 4.4 (KitKat). The smartphone is listed on the official website and packs a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen based on one-glass-solution (OGS) technology, 1.3 GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
It comes with dual SIM support and 3G connectivity. It also has leather-like back cover, similar to some of the latest entry-level Lava smartphones.

The Lava Iris 460 would be available in Black and Grey colors. The Lava Iris X1 that was launched couple of motnhs back was priced at Rs. 7,999, so this is likely to be cheaper than that.
Jolla's one and only smartphone, the 'Jolla' is now available in Kazakhstan.
Mobile Invest, a local firm, as teamed up with the Finland based OEM to offer the Jolla smartphone in the country. While it may not have the most cutting edge features, the Jolla smartphone definitely gets some points when it comes to OS usability. It comes with the in-house developed Sailfish OS, and is the only smartphone in the world that ships with it.

While there's no word on pricing of the device in Kazakhstan, it believed that it'll cost about 400 Euros. This means that the Jolla smartphone clearly won't be the most affordable dual-core smartphone!

Now that most of the major stuff such as screen, processor etc. has been leaked a million times, the rumour mill is now shifting its focus to radio. According to the latest iPhone 6 leak, the device could have something we've never seen on an iPhone before.
Before you get your expectations high, let us tell you that it is NFC that we're talking about. Android powered NFC phones have been around like since forever, but 2014 could be the first time that we see an iPhone that rocks an NFC chip. Apple are known to implement tech in their own manner (take for example their usage of Bluetooth) which has often been restrictive, so it will be interesting to see how they go about implementing NFC.
NFC hasn't particularly had a great run with smartphone enthusiasts, with not a lot of exclusive functionality. Google tried implementing the 'Tap & Pay' feature, which to say the least, has found users few and far between. Nonetheless, we look forward to seeing Apple use the NFC technology (if it has to happen indeed) in the coming months!

Germany based users of the slender and sleek Huawei Ascend P7 have reported that the device received a software update recently. According to GSMArena, even though its only seeding to Germany users at the moment, the update is slated to hit Ascend P7 users in all of Europe.
This happens to be the first ever software update for the phone since it was released in May this year. It succeeds the Ascend P6 of last year, a device which set benchmarks for OEMs in more ways than one.
Coming back to the software update, since it's a minor one, it won't increment the Android or even the Emotion UI version on the device. It is believed that the update is meant to provide bug fixes, and of course, improve stability.
If you are a user of the device based in Europe, you should soon expect to see the update notification which will take you to the download page, where the OTA update will automatically be carried out after your confirmation.

Bose has filed a lawsuit against Beats Eletronics, alleging patent infringements of its noise-canceling technology. The popular audio electronic maker has filed a lawsuit in a U.S. District Court claiming that Beats violated five different patents in the manufacture of its line of Studio noise-canceling headphones.
The lawsuits stresses more on Beat products like Studio" and "Studio Wireless" for infringing patents embodied within its latest noise-canceling headphone models — the Bose QuietComfort 20 and Bose QuietComfort 20i (known as the QC20 line). Bose alleges that Beats has infringed on 50 years’ worth of research, development and engineering of noise cancelling tech. In the filing, the company said the patents relate to the company's “active noise reduction” technology, first used in Bose products for the military in the 1980s and released for consumers in 2000.
Earlier in May, Apple announced that it will buy Beats Electronics, which makes premium headphones, as well as the Beats Audio on-demand music streaming service for a combined $3 billion. As part of the deal, company co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will become employees of Apple.

Microsoft is ready with an update for Windows Phone 8.1 and it looks like it is inching closer for an official release. Details about the Update 1 aka GDR (General Distribution Release) have been spotted on Microsoft's Developer Center. The update includes many improvements for OEM's and a few new ones for consumers.
In case of the consumers the update will bring folder support on the Start menu that will enable users to club apps together in a single folder similar to iOS and Android. Moreover, interactive phone cover support will also be present in this update. Interactive phone covers let manufactures develop cases for Windows Phones that when opened, unlock the display, enabling easier access to the phone. Android OEM's like HTC and LG have already made such cases HTC Dot View case and LG G3's QuickCircle case for their flagship phones. They will get to run special apps when the cover is closed, and specify what happens when it's open.

Amazon has announced that it plans to open five more Fulfillment Centers (FCs) in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon). The move comes from the e-commerce giant to enhance its services to its customers.
Amazon already has two fulfillment centers in Mumbai and Bangalore. Another aim for launching more fulfillment centers is to enable SMBs to get a scalable and robust national platform using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

LG has introduced Tab Book (11TA740-GA50K), the company's latest Android convertible. It is a variant of the Tab Book 2 with Windows 8.1 that was unveiled earlier this year at the CES. It has the same 11.6-inch (1920 × 1080 pixels) full HD display, powered by a 2.6GHz 4th Gen Intel Core i5 4200U processor with Intel HD Graphics 4400, but this runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). The Windows buttons on the tablet has been replaced by Android home button.
It has 4GB RAM, 128GB solid state drive (SSD) and comes with a physical slider keyboard. It weighs 1.05 kilograms, heavier than normal Android tablet and is 16.7mm thick. LG is working on a 5 inch Windows Phone under the model number LG D635. According to Alan Mendelevich, the founder of cross-promotion network AdDuplex, the handset has showed up in the network’s database.
The LG D635 will feature a 5-inch HD (1280x720p) display. At present no further information about the specs of the phone are known. Considering the screen resolution, the phone might fall in mid range category. In May, LG Uni8 running on Windows Phone was leaked which was touted as the first handset from LG running on Windows Phone 8.1 device.
The last Windows Phone handset launched by LG was the Optimus 7 in 2010. Earlier in February, Microsoft partnered with nine smartphone manufacturers to launch more Windows phone. LG was one of the partners including others like ZTE, Xolo, Karbonn, Lenovo and others.

Earlier this month LG G Vista surfaced via press images. Today a user manual of LG G Vista for AT&T has leaked, confirming that along with Verizon, the smartphone will also be available with AT&T.
AT&T’s variant (model number D631) will have a 5.7-inch display with 720p resolution, 8MP rear and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. It will be powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) processor, 8GB of internal storage and 3,200mAh battery. The LG G Vista for AT&T is expected to pack 1GB (8Gb DDR2) of RAM, but @evleaks claims that the G vista for Verizon features 1.5GB (12Gb DDR2) RAM. It will also support 4G LTE and run on Android 4.4 KitKat.
The phone resembles to the company's flagship phone LG G3 with wider bezels. It is expected to launch on July 31st on Verizon, but no word on plans for an international release.

Apple is all set to acquire radio service Swell for $30 million, according to report from Re/Code. The iOS app will shut down its service and CEO Ram Ramkumar along with other members will join Apple, a result of the acquisition, added the report.
Swell is an iOS app that compiles podcasts and other shows into a personalized talk-radio stream. It currently carries news from sources such as NPR, ABC, ESPN, BBC, Ted, CBC and more. It even uses listener's history to create personalized content playlists.
Apple is likely to use Swell’s technology to improve its Podcast app, which is one of Apple’s most poorly rated apps and widely criticized for performance issues. Swell boasts of a simple UI that is suitable for in-car listening.
The Swell acquisition comes mere two months after Apple acquired Beats Audio for $3 billion. It also suggests that Apple is trying to enhance its offering on its iTunes Radio service that was launched last year.

In a surprising incident, a customer who had ordered Windows Phone powered Xolo Q900s has received an Android variant of the same device from Flipkart. Xolo unveiled the Android version of the Q900s last week almost a month after launching a Windows model of the same variant.
The issue that was first highlighted by Wmpowersure, has been handled by Flipkart and in case you experience the same, you can mark it for free return on Flipkart website and wait for Windows Phone version.

Microsoft’s mobile division today started rolling out Nokia X software platform 1.2 update for the Nokia X, X+ and XL When the company launched the Nokia X2, based on Nokia X Software Platform 2.0, it announced that older Nokia X devices would not get the 2.0 update due to hardware constraints.
The 1.2 update at least brings some of the features present in the Nokia X2, that includes new app switcher, new Nokia Store with new Home screen Spotlight widget for app discovery and one-click downloads, Outlook.com, OneDrive and OneNote apps and more.

Google has added a brand new section to Play Store that is dedicated to offline games. Offline games are those which require no internet connection at the time of playing of them.

The duo of China's Xiaomi and India's Flipkart is all set to open sale for the Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone later today.
This will now be the second time that the device goes on sale in the country on Flipkart. Earlier, the Mi3 went on sale on the 22nd this month when stocks vanished in a matter of under 40 minutes. Flipkart and Xiaomi would hope to repeat the successful sale sans the server crash that Flipkart had to face.

Many potential buyers and fans took to the Mi India and Flipkart pages on Facebook to vent out their frustration, caused by the incompetent servers. To give the misfortune a miss, Flipkart has advised customers to log in 2-3 hours before the sale opens, which happens as 2pm today.

Users of the unlocked HTC One M8 based in Europe are now receiving the Android v4.4.3 update for their devices. This comes only a handful days after US folks got treated to the update.
The update takes the software version to 2.22.401.4, and measures a hefty 613MB. So make sure you're loaded with either WiFi or a high-speed 3G pack before you head out for the update.
Like any other update, this brings in a host of optimizations and bug fixes. It promises performance optimization on the radio segment, including WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile data, along with a host of application updates (Camera, Gallery, Settings, HTC Sync Manager) and lastly some HTC Sense based optimizations. Although the update is still to Android v4.4.3, it brings in security updates found in Android v4.4.4.
If you're a user of the HTC One M8 but on a carrier locked device, expect a similar update to come your way in the coming month or so.
Yesterday, there were reports about Google and Motorola working on a large screen Nexus device that is code named Shamu. Today, a new report from The Information is adding more support to the previous report stating that the duo is in fact working on a "phablet sized device".
The report claims that this device is expected to be launched later this year. It further stated that Google and Motorola joined hands shortly after Google announced that it would be selling the handset maker to Lenovo to create a new Nexus.
Google wanted to work with Motorola to give the new Nexus some of Motorola's trademark features, like always-on voice commands and active notifications, said the report.
"Separately, Motorola is also getting a boost from working on an undisclosed phone-tablet project with Google—the type of initiative which, ironically, it could not pursue as a Google subsidiary due to concerns about favoring the house-owned Android vendor over others."
said the report from The Information.
Although the new report does not add any new details about the specifications of the Nexus phablet, it does continue using the codename 'Shamu' and that it will have a large screen.
