OnePlus to do away with invite system this October

$

The OnePlus One is perhaps one among the most wanted devices at the moment, at least among those who know about the phone. However, a major hindrance for those looking to purchase the device is the invite system. It requires a to-be buyer to get hold of an 'invite' (basically a unique code) that can be obtained (i) either from others who have purchased the OnePlus One or (ii) from OnePlus itself, via the numerous contests it holds. Although OnePlus has ramped up its production capacity in the recent months, the demand for the OnePlus One still outweighs supply. However, in a recent AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit, OnePlus revealed that the company was looking to do away with the invite system by October. "We are working on a pre-orders system, we were initially aiming for September but it’s been slightly delayed, hopefully we’ll be ready to launch it in October." - OnePlus on Reddit This could be great news for those who have patiently been waiting to get hold of the device. The company is also starting to show signs of expansion into other markets, the first of which seems to be India. SUGGESTED READ: OnePlus One clones galore as another one hits ...

We managed to get the HTC One M8  Dual SIM device here at FoneArena and we decided to unbox it for you. Watch the unboxing video below and let us know if you have any questions about the device. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvyB-n8Uyw8 In terms of the design and specs, The One M8 Dual SIM is exactly the same as the regular single SIM version of the One M8. The main difference of course the ability to have 2 SIM cards on the same awesome hardware without having to compromise to use a cheaper phone as they are the ones which generally offer such functionality. There is a Dual network manager in the software settings which lets you manage your SIM cards. For those of you who have the question about the type of SIM cards used on the M8 dual, you can find the answer in the picture below. As you can see, the device uses nano SIM cards for both the slots which is both good and bad.  And don't try using your homemade nano SIM on the M8 as the SIM tray might get stuck thereby causing permanent damage to your phone. This particular version of the One M8 is only available in select markets ...

Lenovo’s upcoming flagship smartphone has been rumoured for quite some time now. Today, the company has sent out press invites for an IFA event, which is scheduled on September 4. The invite reveals that the company will be introducing the Vibe X2. Apart from inviting the media, Lenovo takes a friendly jab at Apple for their recent invite, which had a tagline reading “wish we could say more.” Another interesting aspect of the invite is the presence of a lollipop that gives us a hint that their latest device might run on Android L. However, these are just speculations and there’s no official confirmation just yet. So, don’t keep your hopes too high. Lenovo Vibe X2 has already appeared a couple of times in leaked images. The device is said to come in two different versions, one with an octa-core processor and another with a 2.2GHz dual-core CPU. Both the variants are expected to sport a 5-inch Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5 megapixel front facing shooter. India's Xolo seems to be on an octa-core launch spree. After launching the 8X-1000 and the Play 8X-1200 earlier, the local vendor has now announced the Play 8X-1100. The handset comes with a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD display, akin to a lot of flagships from 2013. As you might have guessed already, the CPU running under the hood is the octa-core MediaTek MT6592, which is said to be the world's first 'true' octa-core. A healthy 2GB of RAM complements the octa-core processor to add up to a respectable specs set. Specifications 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display with Scratch Resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core CPU 2GB RAM 16GB expandable ROM Expandable memory up to 32GB with microSD 13 mega-pixel rear Sony Exmor RS camera 5 mega-pixel front BSI camera dual speakers with DTS Surround sound, Dedicated Audio DAC (Wolfson) 2100mAh battery Dual SIM Android v4.4 KitKat The device comes with a price tag of 14,999 INR or roughly $250. A lot of local makers have been forced to lower prices following the Mi 3 onslaught from Xiaomi, but the good thing here is that the consumer is the only winner here.

Besides launching the octa-core Play 8X-1000, Xolo today also unveiled the Q700s Plus. Unlike the 8X-1000, the Q700s Plus is a bit skewed towards the more budget-centric section of the market. That is apparent when you look at the specs sheet of the Q700s Plus. It comes with with very popular MT6582M CPU from Taiwan's MediaTek that operates at 1.3GHz through its four Cortex A7 cores. There's also 1GB of RAM that has almost become the standard for entry-level phones in the country. Specifications 4.5-inch 854 x 480p display 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M CPU 1GB RAM 8GB expandable ROM 8 mega-pixel rear camera VGA front camera Dual SIM 1800mAh battery Android v4.4 KitKat What is also good to see is that domestic and Chinese makers offering budget phones are finally making the much needed shift to 8GB on-board storage from a paltry 4GB. As smartphones get feature rich each day, large storage capacities come to be a need more than luxury. Coming back to the Q700s Plus, the device is priced at 8,499 INR or $140.

Sony is continuing to create abuzz about its upcoming launches at the IFA 2014 this week. The company in a latest tease is suggesting that its devices will be water resistant. Sony UK has tweeted "We'll be getting deep at #IFA2014. But how deep..? #SonyIFA", along with an image of a pool with a downward-pointing arrow and “2m?” written below it. This pretty much indicates possible waterproofing of two meters, or greater. This probably means an IP certification of IP 65/68 that we recently saw on the Xperia M2 Aqua. Today, a leak suggested that Sony will announce the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk wearable device at the IFA. In addition, last week the company will also debut Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet. You read it right, Gionee is back and in some style! After launching the now-former thinnest smartphone in the world, the Elife S5.5, the fast rising Chinese OEM has now pulled off something even more exciting - a 5.1mm phone! Following the same nomenclature, this 5.1mm phone is dubbed 'Elife S5.1'. While the cosmetics on the Elife S5.1 shout high-end, the device is more of a mid-range phone on the inside. Which is understandable, given the restrictions caused by the extremely slender body that Gionee would've had to face. Specifications 4.8-inch 1280 x 720p AMOLED display 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 40o (MSM8926) CPU 1GB RAM 16GB non-expandable storage Dimensions: 139.8x67.4x5.15mm 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash 5-megapixel front camera 4G LTE 2100mAh battery Amigo 2.0 (based on Android v4.3) There's no word on pricing as yet, but we know that the device will start selling in China starting this month itself. Gionee has been actively marketing itself in India, where it also launched the Elife S5.5, a device that received rave reviews, for 22,999 INR earlier this year. While the Elife S5.5 was more of an all-rounder, the Elife S5.1 is completely a looker, but isn't as capable under the hood as the former. Source 1, 2

With Android being more and more prominent with each passing day, manufacturers are leaving nothing to be desired. Motorola, Samsung, LG, et al have all released smartwatches and other wearable hardware to grasp the potential created by the same. As you'd be aware already, Taiwan's ASUS is looking to jump on the wearable wagon as well. For that, the company will be announcing the ASUS ZenWatch at the upcoming IFA in Berlin. However, many aspects of the smartwatch including the price remained a mystery until today. According to a report by Focus Taiwan, ASUS has confirmed that the smartwatch will come this October "and will cost less than US$199". That is good news, since most smartwatches, especially those that seem most worthy of a purchase, cost quite a bit more. The report also mentioned that it is October when the ZenWatch will be available for purchase in the US and other selected markets (which are yet to be disclosed). The device will have a one-size-fits-all model, and will run Google's new Android Wear. With just one day to go before the official unveil, we fortunately don't have a lot to speculate. Source | Via
