Google Chrome for Android search answers questions as you type them

0
0
Google Chrome for Android is being tested for a new feature that offers quick answers to you queries as you type them. The experimental feature will instantly provide replys to various queries at the time you are typing them into the search address bar. In order to enable this feature users will have to go to “chrome://flags” in a new tab, scroll to the “Answers in Suggest” option, and select “Enabled.” Also, Chrome for Android needs to be updated to the latest version before accessing the latest feature. As Google is currently testing the feature it is not offering all the answers to the queries in this manner. The company will add more results once this feature becomes available to all Chrome users by default. The latest initiative from Google is aimed at reducing the time for offering an answer and hence it is providing auto-complete suggestions to users in the search bar itself. It is not clear whether when will Google bring this feature to all users. Also, its availability on the desktop is skeptical. via:Phandroid

Samsung said to be working on homebrew GPUs

0
0
Unlike many top smartphone makers like Sony, HTC, etc., Samsung has a chipset line of its own; it is also something that the maker has been quite successful at, often powering devices from other brands with its chipsets. It appears as though this success has encouraged the Korea based maker to consider producing its own GPUs, or Graphics Processing Units. Since that would require some seriously skilled manpower, Samsung has apparently managed to hire talent from GPU specialists such as NVIDIA, AMD and Intel. The latest Exynos series of Samsung's in-house SoCs use ARM's Mali GPUs. Having one of its own would mean that Samsung is free to implement the hardware in any number of SoCs it desires without having to worry about licensing fees and formalities. It's also being said that development is into what you could call 'mature' phase now, after having gone on for a few years. A lot of Samsung phones come in Exynos and Qualcomm variants, something which the maker seems keen to get rid of. What will Samsung unpack next? Source

Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4 get AOSP Android builds courtesy 3rd party dev

Xiaomi's Mi 4 might be the newest Android phone from the 4 year old Chinese company, but it's still the Mi 3 that is grabbing a lot of eyeballs. One, because it's fairly affordable after a year of its launch, and two, because there hasn't been a lot of change under the hood from the Mi 3 to the Mi 4. Both phones, like any other Xiaomi phone, come with forked or modified Android ROMs that Xiaomi call 'MIUI'. Besides heavy theme-ing, the ROM is also very feature rich with the end user in focus. However, there are a certain few things that phones running the MIUI ROM lack. Also, Android purists that might not want to shift camps prefer AOSP or vanilla Android builds. The Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 come with Snapdragon 800 series chipsets, which means there's a lot in common in the system ROM. This means that AOSP ROM is cross-compatible, and that Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 users should be able to enjoy it alike. Please bear in mind though that this isn't an official build, so you might have to do with some elementary bugs. Xiaomi has said that the Mi 3 kernel sources will ...

Reports about Google's Android Silver program were looming the net for quite some time. Now, The Information is reporting that the Android Silver program is being put on hold mainly due to the departure of Google's former Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora. Apparently, Arora was in charge of the Android Silver program and worked as Google’s sales chief and also oversaw the company’s partnerships with handset makers and wireless carriers.  The report further said that the program has received “mixed reactions” from potential partners. Rumors about Android Silver suggested Google would partner with companies like HTC, LG and others, prioritizing Silver-branded handsets in updates and at retail, so support from these companies was crucial. Moreover, some employees inside Google expressed "serious doubts" that Android Silver could be successful, even if the plan had gone on as expected. Just a quick reminder, Android Silver is a Google's plan to replace the current Nexus series with high end Android Silver phones. Sony seeks $1.7 billion loss due to sluggish smartphone sales

0

Sony has predicted a staggering net loss of 230 billion yen ($2.1 billion) for its fiscal year ending next March. That is nearly five times the 50 billion yen loss the company previously forecast. The company said it would not pay a dividend this business year after it was hit by a 180 billion yen ($1.7 billion) impairment charge for its struggling smartphone division. Sony has cut expectations for sales in the smartphone business, which has been reporting operating losses, as it competes against rivals including Apple and Samsung. The company's previous forecast from July was negative as well, with a net loss of approximately $465 million estimated for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2015. At the time, Sony attributed the negative outlook to weaker than anticipated smartphone sales; the company said it was aiming for sales of 43 million, down from 50 million in the previous forecast. The Japanese company has attributed lacklustre sales in the mid-tier and entry-level segments to a "significant change in the market and competitive environment of the mobile business". Sony is changing the strategy for the division with an aim to turn things around in order to reduce risk and volatility, and to deliver more stable profits. "This revision includes changing the ...
