Apple reports Q4 2014 revenues at $42.1 billion, 39.3 million iPhones and 12.3 million iPads sold

Apple has reported revenue of $42.1 billion with a net profit of $8.5 billion in their earnings for Q4 2014 that ended September 27, 2014. The international sales in this quarter is 60% of the quarter’s revenue, 1% up compared to last quarter. Apple sold 39.3 million iPhones, 12.3 million iPads, 5.52 million Macs and 2.64 million iPods during the quarter. iPhone sale is up 16% YoY, but the iPad sales were down 13% YoY. iPod sales continues to go down. No wonder Apple didn't refresh it. iPhone and Mac sales boosted the quarter’s performance, which are more compared to the previous quarter and the same quarter last year. iPhone remains strong with 69% of U.S. commercial market. Apple sold 68 million iPads in the past one year. The CEO says that the sales declines is just a speed bump, and he doesn't see market as saturated. App Store revenue was up 36% from a year earlier and the cumulative app downloads have topped 85 billion. It has acquired 20 companies in the fiscal year and seven in the quarter. Retail stores saw revenue of $5.1 billion, up 15%. Apple iOS 8.1 with Apple Pay, Camera Roll and more available for download

Apple iOS 8.1 is now available for download with a range of new features including Apple Pay, iCloud Photo library and the return of the Camera Roll. iOS 8.1 update hits iOS devices just a few weeks after the launch of the first iteration of iOS 8. One of the most important update is the Apple Pay that will allow users to shop and make payment with their iPhone 6 , iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 instead of a physical credit card. Skype for Windows Phone updated with drawing tool, HD support and more

Microsoft has updated Skype app for Windows Phone with a drawing tool that allows users to draw images and text on photos before sharing. The feature is arriving first on Windows Phone and Skype has not mentioned anything about iOS and Android release. "Today we’re excited to release Skype 2.24 for Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8, which brings drawing to Skype for the first time! Get creative and draw on a canvas, add silly touches to a photo or draw the fastest route on a map and share it with your friends and family." posted Skype on a company blog post. In order to draw on a blank canvas, users will have to tap "+” icon in any chat window and select “drawing.” You can also draw on top of photos as well as annotate Bing maps. Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 LTE get a price cut in India

Samsung has officially reduced the price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 LTE smartphones in India. The Galaxy S5 was launched in April in India for Rs. 51500. Now the smartphone is available from the Samsung India eStore for Rs. 37500. The LTE version of the Galaxy S5 that was launched as Samsung Galaxy S5 4G in July for Rs. 53500 is available for Rs. 40300. Days after the Galaxy S5 went on sale, several online retailers started selling the smartphone for cheaper rates, but Samsung denied slashing the price of the smartphone. Several retailers have already slashed the prices of both these smartphones for even cheaper rates. Samsung usually cut the prices of older smartphones when it launches a new flagship. Hope the Galaxy Note 4 that was launched for Rs. 58,300 in the country gets a price cut soon.

Google Play Music with Material Design leaked in screenshots

Google Play Music is gearing up to receive the Material Design feature from Android 5.0 Lollipop. Earlier this month, we saw Play Store receiving the update with revamped UI and bold use of color palette. Now, some leaked screenshots show the Material Design update for Google Play Music. We can see that Google has used bold colors even for the Play Music app. One of the first changes is the use of larger images for Album Art. The app now boasts of an orange theme that is seen on the status bar as well as few keys. Icons have now become small and the typography has changed. The hamburger menu that was seen even on the Play Store is now available for Play Music. The individual track playback interfacehas new iconography for playback and ratings, along with new queue, repeat, and shuffle icons. Apple launched the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus smartphones in India last week. We already brought you the unboxing and the photo gallery of the iPhone 6, Plus here we have its benchmarks. The Apple A8 chip in the iPhone 6 Plus has dual-core custom ARMv8 64-bit cores clocked at 1.4GHz per core . It is based on 20nm HKMG process, compared to 28nm on Apple A7 chip. This has quad-core PowerVR GX6450 GPU, more powerful compared to the PowerVR G6430 on the Apple A7 chip. HTC Android 5.0 Lollipop update timeline for devices revealed

HTC has confirmed last week that Android 5.0 Lollipop update is coming to One (M7) and One  (M8) "within 90 days of receiving final software". Now, the company has extended the update to more of its devices, according to latest report from LlabTooFeR. The HTC One (M7) and (M8) remain the first in line for the update. Google Play  Edition versions of the handsets will receive an update in late November-December, as expected, and Sense based versions will see an update in January-February. Meanwhile, other devices like, HTC Desire EYE, HTC One Dual Sim, HTC One E8, HTC Butterfly 2 any many other smartphones will receive the Android 5.0 update anytime between January and March. The One Mini 2 and Desire 816 should receive Lollipop sometime in March or April, while the One Max, One Mini, and Butterfly S are slated for the update sometime between March and May. The report further claims that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will also bring the Eye Experience features on some of HTC’s older devices. It concludes saying that other Media Tek processor powered devices are still under evaluation and it is not sure if it will or will not receive the update. via

Nokia brings HERE Maps to Android smartphones

Nokia has finally launched HERE Maps for Android devices running 4.1 or higher. The news comes after Nokia made maps available on select Samsung Galaxy devices. Prior to this launch, the beta HERE Maps APK was leaked last month. The app is still in beta and the company says that it runs best on devices with 1 GB of RAM or more, and a screen size between 4 and 6 inches. It must be noted that the app is not yet available on the Google Play Store and users will need to "side-load" the app on their devices from Nokia’s website or by side-loading the app to the phone from a PC. We’ve discovered that some ‘cache cleaner’ apps accidentally delete the navigation voices in the HERE app. We’re very close to a fix, which will be released in the next weeks, but in the meantime we’d ask you not to use such apps if you want to use voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation." posted Nokia in a blog. Google Play Music updated with Material Design UI, integrates Songza

Songza, the music streaming service that was acquired by Google in July has been integrated into Play Music. Songza's key feature- contextual playlist that are pre set with activities like driving, working out or waking up are now added to Play Music. Google Play Music subscribers will now see curated playlist based on mood, time of the day, activities and so on. In addition, users will also have the option to download the playlists for offline listening and they can even see what song is up next, and add, remove or re-order them according to your will. Moreover, Play music now gets a revamped "Listen Now' section that makes music discovery easy with cards for recently played music, new release, radio stations and more. The Songza integration will allow you to create a new station based on any song in the mix. According to Google, "dozens" of experts, including DJs and ethnomusicologists, were employed to create the playlists in Google Play Music. Microsoft releases update for Windows 10 Technical Preview

Microsoft has rolled out first update to Windows 10 Technical Preview under company's Windows Insider Program. This brings the Windows 10 Technical Preview to build 9860, an update from 9841 that was officially announced on September 30th. The update is available to people running Windows 10 through the Windows Update method. Some of the main features of the recent update is the addition of Action Center for Windows PCs, apps that can be moved between monitors, and an animation for switching between desktops. Microsoft says that future builds will add more capabilities to the notification center, such as the ability to take actions in response to notifications like new emails and invites to IMs, Facebook posts and more. It also will add quick actions and cleaner UI. "This is the first update build to Windows 10 Technical Preview, and we’ll continue to deliver more as part of the Windows Insider Program. Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 went on sale in several Asian countries last month.  Manish Khatri from Mahesh Telecom reports that the smartphone will launch in India later this week  priced at Rs.  21,499 (MOP) and the MRP would be Rs. 24,300. It packs a 6-inch HD ( 1280 x 720 pixels) display, powered by a quad-core Cortex processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 (SM-G750F) has 4G LTE Cat.4 support, but the Indian variant SM-G750H doesn't come with LTE support and has 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (might be Snapdragon 410) instead of a 1.5GHz quad-core Exynos processor. HTC Desire 820 mini leaked

HTC Desire 820 mini has been leaked on the company's official website in China. The phone however, was soon taken down from the Chinese web store. As per leaked specs, the Desire Mini 820 sports a 5 inch HD display and is powered by  a quad core 1.2GHz processor. It has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded upto 32GB via micro SD card slot. Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the phone will have a 5MP front-facing camera and 8 MP rear camera. The phone also has front facing speakers and  will support 3G, LTE and dual SIM. The HTC Desire 820 Mini appeared on HTC’s website it was listed with a price of 1399 yuan, which is around $228. This makes the phone almost $100 cheaper than its big brother the original HTC Desire 820 that was announced at IFA in September and recently launched in India for Rs 24,990. Samsung quietly announces Galaxy Note 4 duos in China

Samsung introduced its flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 4 about a month ago and today, the company has announced three dual-SIM variants of its Note 4 phablet in China. One of the dual-SIM Galaxy Note 4 versions is designed to work on China Telecom, while the other belongs to China Unicom. The South Korean manufacturer has also showcased a SIM-free model, which we expect to work outside the Chinese land. The first SIM card on all the three versions will host LTE and guess what? It supports both TDD and FDD networks (Chinese and International bands). The second SIM is 2G only and will support 900/1800/1900MHz bands. You will have to use microSIM cards on both the slots. The contact free version of the Galaxy Note 4 duos supports all the TDD LTE bands for both China Telecom and China Unicom. The China Telecom model offers 2G and 3G CDMA connectivity on the first SIM. The SIM-free variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 duos will cost you CNY 5,400 (about $880 or INR 54,000) and there’s no word on the pricing of the other two models. Samsung launched the Galaxy Alpha smartphone in India last week. We brought you the unboxing of the Galaxy Alpha recently, here we have the benchmarks. The Indian variant of the Galaxy Alpha is powered by an Octa-Core Exynos 5430 processor based on ARM big.LITTLE architecture and 20nm High K Metal Gate Process technology, compared to 28nm HKMG in Exynos 5422 SoC present in Galaxy S5. According to the specifications it has four ARM cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz each and four ARM Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz each, even though CPU-Z just shows the A15 chip that is clocked at 1.3GHz. It has a ARM Mali T628 MP6 GPU. It also has True Octa-Core or Heterogeneous Multi-Processing that can run combination of up to eight cores to provide optimum performance.
