As Gionee enters the Indian smartphone market, the only thought that crosses everyone's mind is that here is yet another 'Chinese' smartphone maker here to peddle mediocre products with negligible after sales support. When the company invited us to visit its manufacturing facilities, we jumped on the opportunity to see what actually goes on behind the scenes. However that is a story for another day as today we'll check out Gionee's upcoming flagship product. ie the Gionee Elife E6. The Elife E6 as it is being called is an amalgamation of the best features available on smartphones across the board, or so the designer claims. There is no doubt that the handset is inspired by the likes of the iPhone 5, Blackberry Z10 and even the HTC One but that isn't always a bad thing. William Lu, President, Gionee mentions that the company sources parts from some of the best suppliers around and relies on the likes of MediaTek & Qualcomm for the chipset in use. AuOptronics and Samsung supply the displays and the camera modules are sourced from Sony or Samsung depending on the device. This focus on quality shows as the handset could easily pass off as a smartphone from a ...

Lets see how both of them compete against each other. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJCVvwh4EBs Design, Build and Handling Differences between the Xolo Play and Canvas 4 start right from the design. The Xolo Play has a solidly built plastic body with a matte finish back while Canvas 4 has a plastic body with brushed aluminum at the sides. Both the devices feel pretty solid in hand although we found that the Xolo Play was far easier to hold and grip because of the matte finish. The Canvas ...

Bing gets a facelift on Windows Phone, adds new design and features

Bing, Microsoft's answer to Google, is the default search app on Windows Phone with a dedicated key. The service received a substantial upgrade with the Windows Phone 8 update that brought panoramic quick access to relevant stories at that point in time. Otherwise the results have been similar since the inception of the OS and that has finally changed, with the new rollout that has started for the Bing Search app in Windows Phone. The new update brings a new layout and new features based on the Bing Neural network that works similar to the Knowledge graph from Google. Before the update, the Bing search used to be segregated into four categories - web, local, media and shopping but now it's just web, images and video making the priorities of search more streamlined. Lets face it, their telemetrics probably showed that the shopping and local pivots are barely used. Consolidating and streamlining the views should reduce confusion and help people find what they’re looking for more easily. In the web, contextual search with a prominent first result has been added to make searching a little bit easier. For example, if you search for restaurants in your area, you will be automatically provided with local ...

Oppo N-Lens N1 cameraphone renders leak out, show off the 12 megapixel camera

We recently saw Oppo, the company behind awesome hardware like the Find 5, officially confirming that they are indeed working on camera centric devices with the codename "N-Lens" as future flagships. However, contrary to what we had head before, the company is set out to produce cameraphones rather than connected cameras. We believed it was going to be competition with the Galaxy NX or the Galaxy Camera but if the very recently leaked renders are to be believed, Oppo is all set to launch its cameraphones, starting with the N-Lens N1 which has leaked in renders, one of them shown above. This leak comes by the way of Weibo user ICTech who is usually known for such leaks and solid information. The nicely designed black phone in the render sports a 12 megapixel camera and a Xenon flash, with the lens being the ominous highlight of the photo. Even though the render looks fake to our eyes, we think it is the real deal. But you know, one can never say, this might be just another fan render too. The Find 5 has a 13 megapixel camera, which, by the way, is really awesome already, so we are not sure how Oppo ...

Pretty much everything is already known about the LG G2 ahead of its launch. We've seen that is has  rear mounted volume controls which is something we haven't seen before. The phone will also come with ringtones from the Vienna Boy's orchestra. A leaked manual has now surfaced that provides us with a bit more information and fills all the blank spaces around the specifications of the device. The phone has a 5.2 inch 1080p display. Powering it is a Snapdragon 800 processor. Between the volume rocker at the back is a power/lock key and not a fingerprint sensor as many expected. Following the trend started by the iPhone 5, the handset will have a nano-SIM slow as well as micro SD card slot. The battery is rated at 2,610 mAh which is on the smaller side. With the next generation Note, HTC One Max and new devices from Sony coming up over the next few months, smartphone competition is going to heat up once again. We'll have more for you on the LG G2 as details surface. There Are Six Major Problems with Windows Phone, and Apps Isn’t One of Them

$

I keep running into this same sentence, over and over again "Windows Phone lacks apps". Every single review of a Lumia for example ends with the same foregone conclusion: "it's a great phone but there are no apps". I usually shake my head at this statement, but the recent talks about Nokia blaming Microsoft and the lack of apps have me worried. If anyone — at Nokia, or elsewhere — thinks that this is the culprit behind Windows Phone's failure to gain market traction, then they're clearly disillusioned. It's not as if the release of Instagram will be the magical panacea to the platform's issues. While the app problem is partly true, it is in no way, shape or form, the sole reason why Windows Phone isn't gaining traction. As a matter of fact, you will likely find 80-90% of the same or equivalent apps that you are used to on Android or iOS, and the community is very active — and creative — in trying to fill the remaining gap, so the app problem is only minor, if anything. Windows Phone's issues run way deeper than that. The apps are a symptom of the problem, an outward expression of it, if you will, but ...

Apple loses marketshare as Android tablet sales surge – IDC

What started with Kindle Fire is now the leading form factor in the tablet space. Yes, thanks to the booming small tablet market, Android is surging ahead at no. 1 spot in the tablet space too, with Apple losing marketshare and not growing along with the market. IDC had released its Smartphone marketshare analysis recently, which saw Apple growing at a slower pace than the others and that seems to be the case in tablets too. As you can see from the table above, Apple has actually lost 27% marketshare to other players like Samsung which is now at 18% of the market as opposed to just 7.6% last year. Apple has also shipped just 14.6 million iPads when compared to 17 million iPads the same time last year.Players like ASUS, Lenovo and Acer all have seen triple digit growth and there are no signs of slowing down which spells trouble for Apple. However, IDC analysts suggest that it is due to the lack of a launch from Apple in March that has led to the overall market slow down. With no new iPads, the market slowed for many vendors, and that's likely to continue into the third quarter. However, by the ...

Ahead of the LG G2's launch in New York, a press render has been leaked by the always reliable @evleaks. The first 'press' shot of the image confirms what has already been known about this well leaked device. The handset will sport an edge to edge display with a size of 5.2 inches. The resolution like any other respectable flagship will be 1080p. The most striking break from the otherwise traditional design is the volume rocker and power key that resides at the back of the phone under the camera module. The specifications of the handset are right in line with the rest of the upcoming competition and the phone is being powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3Ghz with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The rear camera is a 13MP unit while the front is rated at 2.1MP. The phone will sport a nano SIM card slot first seen on the iPhone 5 and more recently on the Moto X. We'll have on the ground coverage from the launch event so don't forget to check back to see hands on images of the handset right here on FoneArena. [Via - Evleaks]

Nokia Lumia 820 3600 mAh Mugen Power Batteries extended battery review

The Nokia Lumia 820 is at the fag end of its life cycle, waiting to be succeeded by a more capable Lumia 825 or something, but it is still present in the hands of lots of people, who unanimously face the single most annoying issue on the 820, the disappointing battery life. I know I face it, because I have been using one for the past 7 months and I can tell you outright that the in-built 1650 mAh battery is bad, period. Seeking respite from the incessant battery drains, my eyes grew wide when the well known Android "extended battery" maker, Mugen Power Batteries, announced that huge extended batteries for the Lumia 820 are in the works. There were two variants announced, and one of them was the 3600 mAh one with a special battery door. Needless to say, I got the biggest one. What follows is my experience with the accessory over a comfortably long term of 2 months to see if it is really worth it or not. The Mugen Power 3600 mAh extended battery is made possible thanks to the removable battery cover on the phone. Since the extended battery is so huge, it comes along with a ...
