When you think Amazon, you think e-commerce, but closer to the present, you'd also think about the Fire phone, its failure to make money and so forth, but you never would have imagined that the same company, at this time, would come up with a virtual assistant in the form of a speaker. It is surprising and yes, that's Amazon's new product, called Echo, a cloud-powered home speaker that you can talk to. The Echo, always listening and connected to Amazon's cloud aka AWS, accepts input primarily in voice and can perform many of the functions of already existing virtual assistants like Siri and Cortana. It's also a bold play for the living room, where information is less personal. The device, priced at $199 for regular people and $99 for Amazon's Prime customers, is set to launch in the coming weeks, and is currently invite-only. When it comes to hardware, the Echo is pretty simple. It's designed to look like any modern wireless speaker, with size-appropriate audio power. There's a 2.5 inch woofer and a 2 inch tweeter, with placement meant to provide omnidirectional sound. Amazon claims it can easily fill a room, and it certainly looks like it can. The ...

Waiting to get your hands on the Nexus 6 in the UK? The wait appeared to be nearing an end after we saw an online retailer put the handset up for contract pre-orders earlier this week. Now Google has released the UK pricing for the Nexus 6 on Google Play and it's certainly much dearer than past Nexus handsets. The Nexus 6 will be available in both 32GB and 64GB variants like its American siblings and will cost £499 and £549 respectively. At present, both the midnight blue and cloud white colour variants are showing as coming soon with a release expected on December 1st. For users who purchase the Nexus 6 before 31st December, Google is offering 6 months free access to Google Play Music, which normally costs £9.95 per month and has a library of over 20 million songs. Looking at the Nexus 6 page on Google Play, it's not immediately clear if the handset is sold out - within minutes of the handset launching on Google Play in the US, all stocks were exhausted and we're not sure whether the same applies in the UK. With the handset set to launch in a few weeks time, there's plenty of time for ...

Last week Huawei unveiled their latest attempt to crack the European market; dubbed the Honor 6, it's something different from Huawei's usual handsets and unlike the Ascend range, the Honor 6 (and presumably future devices in the range) do not come with Huawei branding. The Chinese manufacturer has previously suffered bad publicity in the UK and Europe - over allegations that it sends user data back to servers in China that the Chinese government can access - and the Honor 6 is designed to offer the complete Huawei package without any negative stigma attached. Our Honor 6 review sample has arrived and we're interested to see whether the handset lives up to its early billing of an accomplished handset at an affordable handset. Before we can do that, let's take a look at the box, the box contents and the handset itself in our unboxing video: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyfkLMdweTY As we touched on in the video, the Honor 6 feels unique yet somewhat familiar; unique as design-wise it looks closer to the Xperia range than Huawei's own devices but familiar as the Huawei have added their own custom interface on top of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. As soon as you've navigated the set up ...

With Android Wear as the platform of choice, does the hardware push the boundaries, or does it play a safe losing game? Let's find out. Design, ergonomics and walkthrough The Samsung Gear Live heavily borrows its design from the Gear and its successors/variants. A blocky rectangle dominates the face of the watch, enclosed in a stainless ...
