LG releases Aka line of smartphones that understands your moods

LG has released four smartphones under its Aka line of smartphones in Korea today. Announced last month, the smartphones have animated eyes above the interchangeable protective panel that express different emotions. Targeted at youth, the Aka smartphones chooses its emotion depending on how you use it and its features, such as alarm, apps, the kind of music that you load on it, etc. Running on Android 4.4 , the smartphones come with distinct personalities and backstories. The LG Aka sports a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels and are powered by quad-core 1.2 GHz processor (unknown maker). Other specs include 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable memory 8 MP rear camera with laser auto focus, 2 MP front-facing camera. The phones come with LTE, NFC, 2610 mAh battery. Sony Smartwatch 3 lands on Google Play Store for $249.99

Sony's Smartwatch 3 is now available on the US Google Play Store for $249.99. The smartwatch announced  in September was available for pre-order in the US Play Store last month. Sony Smartwatch 3 runs on Android Wear and features a 1.6” 320×320 display and is powered by  a quad-core 1.2GHz ARMv7 processor . It is IP68 certified water and dust proof and has 4GB of internal memory, 512MB RAM, NFC, GPS, and a 420 mAh battery. The smartwatch also comes built-in with GPS sensor as well as a Wi-Fi radio. The smartwatch has built-in microphone for sending “Ok Google” commands, and comes with Accelerometer, Compass, Gyro and GPS sensors which can be used for collecting fitness data. Google Voice adds MMS support on Verizon

Google Voice has announced that it now supports MMS on Verizon. The MMS support was announced to Google Voice last month to almost all the carriers in the US and Canada except Verizon. "We are also adding native MMS support for photo messaging to Google Voice. If you opt in to Google Voice in Hangouts, you can now attach photos to any SMS message and it will be delivered as a native MMS (instead of SMS with a link)." posted Google's Dylan Salisbury in a Google+ post. The move takes Voice one step closer to integration with Hangouts. In addition to the MMS support to Google Voice, Google also says that native support for group messaging via MMS will also be coming at some point in the future. via

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge have received an eco-friendly carbon labeling certification in several countries. The Note 4 has received the certifications in Korea, United States, United Kingdom, and Russia, while Galaxy Note Edge won the green label in Japan. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has become the first smartphone certified by Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute for low carbon emissions, said the company. The carbon certification for the Galaxy Note 4 includes, UK's Carbon Trust certification of carbon emissions (CO2 Measured Label), America's Underwriters Laboratories certification of environmentally friendly products (SPC, Sustainable Product Certification), the Russian Union eco-friendly certification agency Ecological Union's Vitality Leaf certification. The Galaxy Note Edge has received  Eco-leaf environmental labeling, carbon footprint products from Japanese Industrial Environmental Management Association. The carbon labeling certification for the electronics was established in February 2009. The Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note were the first mobile devices to be awarded with the Carbon Footprint certificate by Carbon Trust. Xiaomi pulls $163M in sales on Single’s Day in China

Xiaomi continued to sell its smartphones like hot cakes but this time in China. The company clocked $163 million (¥1 billion) in 12 hours by selling 720,000 phones. Xiaomi achieved this milestone on China’s marathon 24-hour online sales event , Singles Day which is the largest online sale in the country. Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global in a Google+ post has claimed that the company sold 720,000 Mi phones in 12 hours of the sale. He also revealed that the company earned $16 million in the first five minutes of their sale going live. Xiaomi even beat its record last year within four hours. Out of the 720,000 smartphones, 250,000 were Mi4 handset, 460,000 were the Redmi and Xiaomi also claims to have sold around 25,000 Mi TVs as well. Yesterday, it was reported that Xiaomi is in talks to raise $1.5 billion in funding and last week another report said that the company is seeking to secure funding that will value it at over $40 billion. Microsoft has rebranded Lync with Skype for Business. The company is promising Skype for Business will remain an Office 365 service when it replaces Lync sometime “in the first half of 2015. HTC has added its Camera app in the Google Play Store. The app will bring HTC Eye experience to supported devices. Users can directly download updates and bug fixes directly from the Play Store instead of waiting for firmware updates to hit their devices. The app includes the ability to switch between front and rear cameras with a swipe and change shooting modes. AOC India’s first smartphone launching this week

Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 reportedly facing weak reception signal

Samsung recently announced Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 smartphones from the metal A series. According to a report, both these devices are facing signal strength issue. A new report from Hi-Tech.Mail.ru is claiming that Galaxy A3 and A5 are facing cellular signal strength issues. Both the devices that are made of entire metal bodies received a weaker signal strength compared to Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 has a signal strength reading of -82 dBm, while the A3 and A5 only got -92 dBm and -93 dBm respectively. The report further states that the reception of these metal Galaxy phones is significantly worse than plastic models. Also, the test was carried by using same SIM card in same location. Both handsets will be first released in Asia in limited batches, which according to a report is apparently due to manufacturing issues that Samsung is experiencing with the metal builds. via

Samsung and SAP team up for Enterprise Wearable Apps

Samsung has announced that it is collaborating with SAP to create enterprise mobility apps for mobile devices and wearables. The two companies said they will collaborate to “build on the popularity and reach of Samsung’s mobile innovations and the SAP Mobil Platform,” according to a joint statement from the companies. “As a market leader in smart devices and solutions, we know how to bridge consumer expectations for what a premium mobile experience should feel like with a readiness for the enterprise environment. We’re committed to building a world-class, open, and comprehensive enterprise mobility ecosystem and delivering the best-in-class enterprise solutions that combine the strengths of Samsung’s mobile innovations and the SAP Mobile Platform.” said Seokpil Kim, head of the Global B2B Center at Samsung Electronics.
