Xiaomi's play in the large screen phablet segment has been highly anticipated. With the launch of the Redmi Note, the company now has a formidable product that at least on paper can challenge much higher priced devices. Let's take a closer at the Xiaomi Redmi Note and it's 4G equipped variant. Xiaomi Redmi Note specifications 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display 1.7 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor with Mali 450 GPU MIUI v5 Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) Dual SIM 13MP rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture, 1080p video recording 5MP front-facing camera 2GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, micro SD card up to 32GB 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS 3100 mAh battery At first glance, the handset looks fairly unremarkable. The phone has a large 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating on it. It is surrounded by black bezels all around with three capacitive buttons below the panel. The screen itself covers 70% of the NTSC color gamut and offers excellent viewing angles to boot. While the resolution is just 720p which we feel is a bit lacking given the size of the screen, it is certainly usable. Above the display lies the front facing 5MP camera. The phone is bereft of ...

One of the biggest changes in Apple's device portfolio of recent years was the introduction of the iPhone 6 Plus earlier this year; whilst Apple have previously made flagship handsets bigger, the iPhone 6 Plus is the first time the company has entered into the phablet arena but here they also face stiff competition. Apple are one of the last companies to enter the big-screen devices market and existing competition include handsets from LG, Nokia, Sony, HTC, Samsung and Huawei. So how does the iPhone 6 Plus compare to Huawei's flagship phablet, the Ascend Mate 7? Whilst the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5 inch display, the Ascend Mate 7 has a 6 inch LCD - both are 1080p Full HD resolution - and given the smaller screen size, you might expect Apple's phablet to be smaller in size. As you can see, the iPhone 6 Plus has a half-inch smaller display but is almost identical in size to the Ascend Mate 7: the iPhone 6 Plus measures 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 mm which is slightly larger but narrower and thinner than the Ascend Mate 7 which measures 157 x 81 x 7.9 mm. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DaCIDuaiOg Both manufacturers have understood the need to ...

Galaxy Note Edge UK launch delayed until December 12

The Galaxy Note Edge will NOT go on sale in the UK on November 28 as originally planned with Samsung confirming the handset's launch has been delayed until December 12. Alongside the delay in the launch, Samsung have pushed back the pre-order period and shortened it to a week meaning you won't be able to order it from Samsung or Carphone Warehouse before December 5th. Samsung's launch record in the UK has been a little spotty recently with the Galaxy Note 4 launching a week later than expected and stocks very limited at launch. The Galaxy Note Edge is considered a niche product meaning its delayed launch is unlikely to drastically affect its sales but with Vodafone UK the only confirmed network offering it (although Carphone Warehouse will offer plans on other networks), the sales potential of the handset is already limited. The Galaxy Note Edge was announced alongside the Galaxy Note 4 back at IFA 2014 and features almost identical specifications and design to the Galaxy Note 4 aside from the very unique curved edge. Aptly named Edge Screen, the wrap-around edge offers a secondary display that can be used to offer additional controls (such as in the music player) or display ...
