Xiaomi has got itself a breather as the Delhi Court has partially lifted the ban from selling smartphones in India. The Chinese smartphone maker was banned last week from importing and selling handsets in the country owing to a patent infringement Ericsson’s Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). A PTI tweet has revealed that Xiaomi is allowed to sell and import Qualcomm chipset based handsets till January 8. Prior to the ban, Xiaomi was selling Redmi 1S and Redmi Note in India of which the former runs on a Qualcomm chipset, while the latter is powered by a MediaTek processor. Hence, Xiaomi can only sell the Redmi 1S in the country. The court is scheduled to hear the case on February 5, so it is likely that Xiaomi phones will again be banned in the country from January 9 unless the court passes another similar order. Xiaomi was going to launch its new flagship Xiaomi Mi4 in India , but now the launch has been delayed till further notice . The Delhi HC had banned Xiaomi in India after Ericsson sued Xiaomi for violating its eight patents pertaining to AMR, EDGE and 3G technologies in the field of telecommunication. Xiaomi reportedly infringed upon the patents: Standard, Essential Patents ...

Lava Iris Fuel 60 Hands On

LAVA, the well known indigenous smartphone manufacturer, today revealed its new handset ie the Iris Fuel 60. The phone's USP as the name suggests is the large battery that it packs. But does that it make it sufficiently interesting? We spent some time with the phone. Here's what we thought about it. The LAVA Iris Fuel 60 at first glance appears like a well built mid range handset. Certainly at a level higher than the price it commands. The front of the device showcases a 5 inch HD display and is flanked on all four sides by very large bezels. There are no capacitive buttons here and the front facing camera can be seen at the top as you'd expect. [gallery columns="4" ids="126013,126009,126010,126008"] The 720p IPS panel is covered by a Gorilla Glass 3 layer that promises to prevent scratches. That said the fascia of the handset is extremely glossy and prone to fingerprints. The right side of the phone sports the volume rocker and power button. We found tactile feedback to be limited and the buttons lacked sufficient 'give'. The microUSB port lies at the bottom. Given the size of the battery stuffed into the handset, the phone is fairly thick and heavy. ...

You read that right! OnePlus, the popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been temporarily banned from marketing, selling and shipping its mobile device in India. The order comes from Delhi HC after Micromax had complained against OnePlus for having infringed its exclusivity under the agreement with Cyanogen. Starting from today, OnePlus is also banned from import new stocks with Cyanogen branding to India. However, the company has been allowed to sell its current stock. Cyanogen had recently inked a deal with the Indian manufacturer Micromax and according to the agreement, the exclusivity of offering CyanogenMod OS running devices would remain to Micromax. There was some confusion with OnePlus announcing their smartphone at the same time and the future of OnePlus One receiving CyanogenMod OS updates was uncertain. Both the companies came out in the public and made some statements. By the looks of the appalling communication from Cyanogen, we thought that they were the company to blame for the mess. As it turns out, Cyanogen seems to have requested OnePlus to stop using Cyanogen branding in India even before the device was officially launched. According to the court order, which we have acquired, OnePlus at a point seems to have agreed to give up ...

The Honor 6 may have only just begun launching in several markets around Europe but it's bigger brother has already been announced. The Honor 6 Plus brings the Honor brand to the larger display market but as we can confirm, it won't be available to customers in Europe or other Western Markets. Following the announcement of the Honor 6 Plus, we were in touch with the company to enquire about availability of its handset outside of the expected launch markets in Asia. Whilst not confirming any information about specific markets, an Honor spokesperson did confirm that the handset will targeted solely inside Asian markets and will not available in Western Markets. "Honor is driven by its consumers, the digital natives and, in Asia, the customer demand for phablets is very high so we have developed the Honor 6+ to this need. However we don't employ an "one size fits all" approach to our products and, in Europe where there is currently less demand for phablets, our focus at the moment continues to be on meeting audience needs with the high quality Honor 6 and Honor 3C devices." The Honor 6 Plus, also known as the Honor Glory 6 Plus, has a few new features ...

The continuous weakening of the Russian Ruble over the past few days has taken a major casualty in the world of technology with Apple being forced to shut down its Russian Online Store after confirming the constant conditions mean it doesn't know which to charge customers. In the past 24 hours, Russia's currency has taken a nosedive by losing as much as 19 percent and despite an enormous interest rate rise overnight to 17 percent, the Ruble isn't showing signs of rectifying the decline. At close of play, the Ruble had slipped to over 80 per dollar in comparison to below 40 at the beginning of the year. Alan Hely, a spokesman for the Cupertino-based company, wrote in an emailed statement to Bloomberg: “Our online store in Russia is currently unavailable while we review pricing. We apologize to customers for any inconvenience.” Prior to the incredible recent volatility of the Ruble, Apple had dealt with the fluctuations by raising the prices charged to customers. Last month the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus prices were raised by 25 percent to counter the fluctuation in the Ruble but with the current conditions resulting in significant fluctuations almost hourly, the company has been forced to suspend its online store.

Canada is backing the continued growth and existence of BlackBerry with a large 5-year $850 million loan to British communications giant Vodafone Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Vodafone will use $750 million to purchase equipment and services produced by BlackBerry and the other $100 million with smaller Canadian companies. The Globe and Mail report that this is second such deal in two years between Canada and Vodafone to ensure the latter continues to purchase and promote BlackBerry's range of services. It marks the second time in two years that EDC has financed BlackBerry export sales to Vodafone, and the second BlackBerry-related financing with a major European telecom. At the end of 2012, EDC lent $750-million, which Vodafone recently repaid. And last year, EDC provided $256-million in loans to Telefonica SA of Spain, also to finance BlackBerry purchases. Todd Winterhalt, Vice President of International Development at Export Development Canada - the federal government's export lender - confirmed that the deal is being made at commercial terms but would not comment on the rate being charged. The loan will allow BlackBerry to "solidify their presence" in Europe's various emerging markets that Vodafone currently operates in and is seen as crucial to CEO John Chen's ...
