Xiaomi is quickly turning out to be a household name. The products from the Chinese company have been the talk of the town, thanks to their affordable price tag and superior hardware configurations. The latest model from Xiaomi to hit the Indian shores is the Redmi Note 4G. The device is one of the most affordable LTE enabled smartphone out there. We were just wondering how good the modem on the Redmi Note 4G and what is the speed it is capable of handling. So, we took the device for a spin in order to test what LTE speed the smartphone can achieve. We were in Bangalore, where Airtel has been providing the LTE service for quite some time and is probably the only location in the country where 4G is widely available. We would like to report that we tested the speeds across various destinations in the city and the overall result was really surprising. Just like the Apple iPhone 6, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is also capable of handling speeds up to 40Mbps down. The average speed on the carrier was in excess of 20Mbps which is quite impressive considering the overall internet pace in the ...

For customers on O2, the cheapest is £28 per month whilst EE plans start from £30.99 per month (both with 1GB data, EE limited to 1000 minutes). Google is planning to bring an important update to its Translate app for Android that will allow it to auto-recognize languages and translate them into text in real time, according to a latest report from New York Times. The feature looks similar to Skype's real time translator preview for Windows 8.1 that was announced in December last year. Google Translate currently offers text translation for about 90 languages, including English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Russian and Spanish, and voice translation for just a few of them. As per the report, the app will also gain the ability to use the camera to translate foreign signs in the real world. This would help users and especially travelers to take snapshot of signs and menu cards in foreign land. Last month, a report stated that Google Translate's next update would bring WordLens integration and conversation mode. The latest report seconds the possibility of an update that will compete with Skype's newly added feature which currently supports translation only from English to Spanish and vice versa. Whether Google Translate's update will allow real time translation in all the 90 languages it supports, remains to be seen. via

HTC Desire Eye – The Selfie Generation

$

A few years ago, the concept of taking a "selfie" using your front facing camera would usually have been rubbished by the complaint that the quality of the image wasn't good enough. During the past two years, we've seen the birth of the selfie generation with the front facing camera quality arguably becoming as important as the rear camera and this is especially true of the new generation of selfie handsets, which includes the HTC Desire Eye. The Desire Eye follows in the footsteps of other handsets where the front facing camera is a key selling feature; whilst most of these handsets have been targetted towards the Far East markets and featured sensors of around five to eight megapixels, the Desire Eye is targetted at the global market and sports a 13MP sensor on the front (with the same sensor also in use on the rear). That's not all as the Desire Eye also brings the world's first dual LED flash on the front, dedicated to taking those perfect selfies. On paper at least, the 13MP front camera sensor should produce the best selfies ever as it's the highest front facing sensor on a smartphone to-date - the Oppo N1 had a ...
