Samsung introduces first eMMC 5.1 flash memory

0
0
Samsung has announced that it has started developing industry's first eMMC (embedded multimedia card memory) 5.1 flash memory. This is based on the eMMC 5.1 standard approved by JEDEC recently. Sequential reads and write speed of Samsung's 64GB eMMC 5.0 flash memory were 250MB/s and 90MB/s respectively. Samsung's 64GB flash memory based on eMMC 5.1 would offer sequential write speed of 125MB/s, faster than eMMC 5.0. The 64GB eMMC 5.1 memory achieves up to 11,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second) and 13,000 IOPS, which are approximately seven and 26 times faster respectively, compared to a typical external micro SD card with approximately 1,500 IOPS and 500 IOPS, says Samsung. Samsung has developed eMMC 5.1 products in 64GB, 32GB and 16GB capacities. The new eMMC 5.1 with better read and write speed would offer seamless multitasking activities including the streaming and playback of UHD (Ultra High Definition) video content. It also offers Secure Write Protection security protocol feature that ensures only its designated users access secured areas of the eMMC. Samsung is mass producing eMMC 5.0 based flash memory from 4GB to 64GB capacities for the past few years. The company says that it is already in the process of preparing to ship the first eMMC 5.1 products to some smartphone and tablet OEMs. ...

NatWest, the UK's largest commercial and retail bank, is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group. Touch ID will be available from 19 February on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.
