HTC has officially launched the HTC Desire 820s dual sim smartphone in India. It was announced last year, packs a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display, 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6572 64-bit processor, Android 4.4 Kitkat OS with HTC Sense 6 UI on top, features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front-facing camera and dual-front-facing BoomSound speakers. It has Dual SIM support and 4G connectivity. Google said to bring USB Type-C to future Android phones

Google has announced that it will bring USB Type-C support to future Android phones. Product manager, at Google Adam Rodriguez said that the the company was committed to the new spec and that future Chromebooks and Android phones could see its adoption in the near future. Earlier today, Google unveiled a new model of the Chromebook pixel which also sports the USB Type -C that Apple introduced to the newly launched MacBooks this week. USB Type-C cables will be able transfer data at a top speed of 10 gigabits per second, according to the USB Implementers Forum. The USB Type-C is reversible and allows users to plug it anyway. InMobi CEO Naveen Tewari denies Google’s acquisition talks

Yesterday it was reported by The Economic Times that Google is looking forward to buy Indian mobile ad network firm InMobi. However, InMobi CEO, Naveen Tewari has spoken out and denied the acquisition talks. "We are building an amazing company in a huge market with a huge level of innovation and disruption and the disruption we are about to cause is no reason for us to look at any such deals," Tewari wrote in an email to staff. Tewari has informed his employees that the report is not true and he does not intent to sell the company. Yesterday's report had stated that the talks between the duo started in September last year and Google had not yet detailed its terms and conditions for the deal. Other sources like Reuters and The Wall Street Journal also reported the news following ET report.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Win 2 (SM-G360BT), successor of last year's Galaxy Win in Brazil. It has a 4.5-inch WVGA display, slightly smaller than the first Galaxy Win smartphone, but this has a different quad-core processor adding 4G support and runs on Android KitKat. It has the same 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, but the front-facing camera has been upped to 2MP from VGA. Other features such as 1GB, 8GB of internal storage with expansion slot and a 2000mAh battery are similar to its predecessor. It also comes in a variant with digital TV. Sony to shut down PlayStation Mobile

Sony is shutting down PlayStation Mobile platform. The company has already shut down PlayStation Mobile for Android late last year, announcing that devices on Android 5.0 would not be able to access the content store. Users on PS Vita and PlayStation Certified devices will be able to re-download purchased content until September 10, after which that service will also be unavailable. Also, Sony will no longer publish new games after July 15. PlayStation Mobile was a platform running on select PlayStation certified Android devices along with Sony’s PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV consoles. The service was never able to gain momentum and hence was decided to be axed. Sony is already struggling with it mobile division and has even considered selling it. Sony in November that it is planning to cut down the smartphone lineup by ending the development of new smartphones in China and is reducing the number of Xperia models as it struggles to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung. In January its was reported that Sony is slashing 1000 jobs in the smartphone division.

Samsung introduces accessories like cases, cover and more for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

Samsung had launched a wide range of accessories for the recently announced Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The company has rolled out phone cases, battery packs and audio accessories. First up, there is the clear-view case that  displays information including time and weather however when not in use it reflects objects just like a mirror. Available in gold, silver, purple and other colors, the case lets users answer the phone without opening the case. In addition, Samsung has also launched clear cover that is made of metal covered in glass and will cover even the edges of your Galaxy S6 edge. The company is still sticking to the signature S-view cover and flip cover that now gets added a fabric-based material. Moving on to other accessories, Samsung is bringing the Level Bluetooth on-ear headphones that has a 33-mm dual-layered diaphragm speaker unit with smart navigation, active noise control and supposedly 11 hours of battery life. They are available in blue-black, silver, red and blue. Samsung is even releasing the Level Box mini, affordable and portable speakers with Bluetooth. Finally, the company is showing wireless charging pads which will be available in White and Black.

Xiaomi looking forward to set up production unit and 100 ‘experience stores’ in India

Xiaomi which already counts India as one its most important market has decided to set up production unit in India according to a report from Reuters. "We want to invest deeply in this market, we want to have a significant amount of research and development done here -- not only for India but the rest of the world. The fundamental point is we want to build deeply rooted Indian products because this is a hugely important market for us and there is nothing more powerful than being a local business," Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's vice president of international operations told Reuters. The Chinese smartphone maker is looking forward to invest and begin local production within 12 to 18 months in the country, said the report. Barra did not mention how much Xiaomi is  eyeing to invest in India which is its largest market outside China, but the company is looking to put money into start-ups and rolling out service centers. In addition to the production unit, the company will also open 100 'experience stores' in the country that will help the customers experience devices. These stores will not sell any units. Google has released reference sample for multi device app. The sample is a multi-device application called Universal Music Player that offers a continuous experience across Android, Android Wear, Android Auto, and Google Cast devices. "It is now possible to bring the benefits of your app to your users wherever they happen to be, no matter what device they have near them. Today we’re releasing a reference sample that shows how to implement such a service with an app that works across multiple Android form-factors. posted by Renato Mangini, Senior Developer Platform Engineer, Google Developer Platform Team in a blog. The app combines a number of different features from Android 5.0 Lollipop and will show developers the recommended way to build their apps for Wear, Auto and Google Cast devices. It shows developers how to implement features such as putting playback controls and album art on the lock screen and controlling playback through Android Auto and Android Wear. The sample uses features such as MediaStyle notifications, MediaSession, and MediaBrowserService. These features are what allows content to be spread from device to device.

Google likely to launch a VPN service for Android

Google is expected to introduce its own VPN service for Android, according to a report from Pocketables. The possibility of the a VPN was spotted on a user's recently updated Nexus 6 now running Android 5.1 Lollipop. The update resulted into arrival of an app dubbed as Google Connectivity Services in the “all” section of the apps list inside of the settings menu. After opening the app users see a screen that reads “To help protect you on open Wi-Fi networks, your data will be transmitted securely through a Google VPN.” At the time of running the application the Google VPN never actually runs although you are taken to the standard VPN connection request screen when you tap “got it” and attempt to move forward. Tapping on the learn more button also gives no information about Google Connectivity Services and simply redirects users to the regular Google support page. Unfortunately Google’s VPN does not work for now, even if you do complete all these steps. Google did not offer any details on adding a built in VPN into Android as of now.

Apple rolls out iOS 8.3 public beta

Following reports in February, Apple has released the public beta for iOS 8.3. This is the first time Apple is inviting regular users to test a forthcoming iPhone software update. Apple has launched Apple Beta Software Program’ where interested users can sign up to test the public beta. After signing up users will need to install a package file that clears your device for beta software and then they will be able to install iOS 8.3.  The software update includes support for Wireless CarPlay, an upgraded Emoji keyboard, Spotlight, an enhanced voice for Siri, and simpler login for Google services. Beta 3 also introduces a feature that allows users to filter out unwanted messages. There is also a permanent Apple Watch app. However, it must be noted that as it is a beta version there might be some bugs and glitches.

Samsung to focus on premium products and high resolution screens

Samsung will up the ante when it comes to the quality of its products. According to a Bloomberg report, the company will use more premium materials in its mobile devices to stay on top of its game. The South Korean tech giant which has been receiving a tough competition from the likes of Apple and homegrown smartphone makers. Samsung will bring more smartphones with metal casings, slim designs and high-definition displays across its range of models, Co-Chief Executive Officer Shin Jong Kyun said at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, as per the report. The company is already focusing on metal design as we seen the range of Galaxy A series and the Galaxy S6. “Samsung Electronics aims to consolidate its leadership in the premium market and plans to newly change the smartphone line-up to strengthen competitiveness,” said J K Shin, head of mobile phone business. The report added that Samsung will try to tap new demand in the business-to-business market as well as smart home and health devices.

Samsung has started rolling out Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for the Galaxy Note Edge (SM-N915G) smartphone in India, according to Sammobile. The Galaxy Note Edge smartphone was launched in India running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) back in December last year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 got the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in India last week. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update brings all-new material design, quick notifications on the lock screen, enhanced performance and more. Internal memory will likely be less after the update, similar to other Samsung smartphones that had received the Lollipop update earlier. We have not received the update on our Galaxy Note Edge unit yet. We will update this article with screenshots once we have received the update.  Samsung is yet to roll out Lollipop update for Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 users in India.

Microsoft to release Cortana for Android and iOS: Report

Microsoft's Cortana will be released for Android and iOS platforms as a standalone app, according to a report from Reuters. Cortana was released first on Windows Phone last year with the Windows Phone 8.1 update. Several apps had received support for Cortana since the release. Cortana will be coming to Windows 10 PCs and tablets soon. Microsoft’s Eric Horvitz, managing director of Microsoft Research in an interview to Reuters said that the company is planning a major roll out of Cortana this fall, which will read and understand email. The more advanced version of Cortana, codenamed project Einstein will improve the awareness of Cortana and its ability to automate even more tasks, according to the report. Google already updated its Google Search app with Google Now for iPhone and iPad. Releasing Cortana as a standalone app on Android and iPhone will likely increase its user base.
