Google in talks with Three mobile operator for cheap international calls

Google is said to be in talks with Hutchison Whampoa, the owner of the mobile operator Three to make overseas calling cheap, as per a report from The Telegraph. The main aim for the talks is to allow US users to access their phones internationally at no extra costs. Google is reportedly planning to create a global network that will charge the same cost for calls, text message and data irrespective of the customer location. If the collaboration with the Hutchison takes place, Google could gain wholesale access to mobile service in the UK, Ireland, Italy and several more countries where the Hong Kong conglomerate owns mobile networks. Moving on, the report states that Google is also seeking to eliminate roaming charges for Three customers. Google announced its plans to launch a mobile network last month. The tech giant will not build mobile masts but rely on wholesale deals to use existing infrastructure both at home and abroad. This move will put pressure on the pricing of America’s biggest mobile operators, AT&T and Verizon, who enjoy higher profit margins than their European counterparts. In addition, the "small scale project", as Google calls it, could encourage operators to invest in new technology to improve mobile coverage via ...

We unboxed the Zenfone 2 ZE500C, showed off the Zen UI based on Android Lollipop and gameplay demo recently. The Zenfone 2 ZE500CL has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor.  The smartphone has Miracast screen mirroring support and also has USB OTG. Here is a demo video that shows both these features. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJXjgVbr4dE Miracast screen mirroring feature was already present in the first generation Zenfone series, but in the new Zen UI, Miracast function is replaced by PlayTo, which is the new name for this feature. Once you have a Miracast dongle or device connected to a monitor, you can mirror the phone's screen to the monitor. It doesn't show any lags, as you can see from the video. The phone also has USB on-the-go (OTG) support that lets you connect a pen drive to it. You can even use a USB hub to connect a keyboard and a mouse to the phone. Even though Asus says that the phone supports microSD cards only up to 64GB, we tried out 128GB microSD card, and it worked perfectly fine.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie is one of the first mid range phones to completely embrace the selfie revolution, with the same 13 MP camera on both sides. But as we have seen earlier, megapixels do not always mean better images. So, to find out if the Canvas Selfie is good enough, we pitted it against the HTC Desire 820, a higher-priced mid-range smartphone. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK04C-k4ZqA The Desire 820 comes with an 8 megapixel front facing camera and a BSI sensor, while the Micromax Canvas Selfie comes with a 13 megapixel camera that sports a f2.0 autofocus lens along with a Sony BSI sensor. Let's take a look at some samples now. Apple is making Apple Maps more powerful with TripAdvisor and Booking.com integration. The latest update to Apple Maps brings hotel reviews from these two websites. Now when a user searches for a hotel, Apple Maps will pull results like review and customer photos from TripAdvisor and Booking.com. Although these two sites are not listed as Apple Maps sources, users will see the reviews in Maps. Prior to this only reviews from Yelp appeared at the time of Map search that pulled out reviews pertaining to local points of interest without having to leave the app. The addition of TripAdvisor and Booking.com indicates that Apple is expanding its offerings and no more relying only on Yelp. Apple has not yet made any official announcement but there is a possibility that these additional services could be linked to the company’s acquisition of Spotsetter last year that focuses on personalized social search and navigation.
