Samsung is currently beta testing the Oreo build for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the stable update is due for later this month, and now when no one was expecting, a Note8 Exynos variant has randomly got the Oreo update according to a Samsung retail store employee. It is very unusual since the company never expanded the Oreo build to Note8.
The Reddit user claims that it is the device customers can 'touch and experience' indicating that it is a display piece at a Samsung store. The screenshots posted by him shows the build number as N950FXXU2CRA1.DM with Galaxy Experience 9.0. Since it is not a beta firmware, it must be an internal test build of Oreo for the Galaxy Note 8.
The update also brings January 2018 security patch and other Oreo OS based improvements and features. It doesn't look like it is a soak test either, as it is not Samsung's style to release major firmware updates to a few people ahead of a public release just for testing. The Reddit user further mentioned that he would be able to provide further information on the update only tomorrow when he goes back to work.

Micromax has started teasing the Bharat 5 Plus, the company's upcoming smartphone on its social channels and has also listed the phone on its site. This week Meizu confirmed that it will introduce the M6s smartphone on January 17th, which will be called Meizu S6 in China. Today images of the smartphone has been revealed by TENAA that shows the phone's 18:9 aspect ratio screen with minimal bezels. It also shows side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the right side, just below the power button.
It also reveals unibody metal design with antenna lines running on the top and the bottom parts of the back. On the back is mblu branding along with the Meizu branding. The phone is said to be powered by upcoming Hexa-Core Samsung Exynos 7872 SoC with Mali-G71 GPU.

On one hand, Intel is having a hard time fixing the Meltdown and Spectre Security Vulnerabilities that affected processors from the past 10-15 years, the company is now hit with three separate class-action lawsuits by plaintiffs in California, Oregon, and Indiana who are seeking compensation.
These security vulnerabilities could allow hackers to steal sensitive data and the fix as reported earlier might lead to a performance drop. However, Intel then quickly responded saying that any drop in performance is negligible and Google-backed by saying the fix implemented on its affected servers has seen a negligible impact on performance.
However, the plaintiffs who filed the legal lawsuit didn't satisfy with Intel explanation. The first class action complaint was filed January 3rd in United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the other two lawsuits according to Gizmodo, were filed today; one in the District of Oregon and another in the Southern District of Indiana.
All the three lawsuits cite the Intel's failure to timely public disclosure and the supposed slowdown of purchased processors. Though Intel claims that the performance drop is negligible and says that the performance penalty is not as significant as the reports suggest. LG today announced that it will be introducing its first-ever 4K UHD projector in the HU80K series at the CES 2018 event that is scheduled to kick-start in a couple of days. It can create a 150-inch screen at 2,500 lumens making it the brightest LG's projector till date.

Amazon today announced 'Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit' with an aim to bring Alexa voice assistant to portable, on-the-go devices such as hearables, headphones, smart watches, fitness devices, and more. The kit has enough support for OEMs to add Alexa to their devices with minimum investment in hardware or integration efforts.
The Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit allows OEMs to quickly integrate AVS (Alexa Voice Assistant) without the need for bulk coding. Bluetooth headphones built with this new Alexa kit can connect directly to the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) via the Amazon Alexa App available both for Android and iOS. Once they are paired with the Alexa app on the phone, users can take advantage of the Alexa Voice Service.
The new Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit is an alternative to the AVS Device SDK that Amazon released last year which requires the accessories to run the Alexa Voice Service natively. When all the phones are getting Android 8.0 (Oreo), Motorola has started rolling out Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) update for the Moto G4 Play smartphone staring from Brazil. It was launched back in 2016 running Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), but it did not get the Android 7.0 update and is directly being updated to 7.1.1, months after the soak test. Other Moto G4 series phones are still running on Android 7.0.
The Android 7.1 update brings new emoji that reflect the pivotal roles women play in the world, app shortcuts that can be launched directly from home screen in apps like Twitter, Google Messenger, Google Maps by simply long pressing the app icon. It also brings several bug fixes and improvements.
The company confirmed Nougat update for the phone back in October 2016, which will be the last update for it since only the Moto G4 Plus and the G5 series of phones are eligible for the Oreo update.

HMD global has started rolling out Oreo beta update for the Nokia 6 last month, but it was not available in India at that time. Today it has started rolling out the update for the Indian users of the phone, as it had promised after a couple of improvements. This has a large 7-inch screen that is the main difference you notice. Bezels around the screen are smaller than the predecessor, but you have a lot of space near the hardware buttons that lets you hold the Kindle comfortably.
By default, the top page-turn button lets you turn a page forward and the bottom button for backward, which you can reverse from the reading options in the settings. Acer today announced that it would roll out Amazon Alexa voice assistant to select PCs starting from Q1 2018. The list of PCs includes Aspire, Spin, Switch and Swift notebooks, as well as Aspire all-in-one PCs.
Alexa voice assistant will be initially available in the US via an update through Acer Care Center, and wider support is expected to be rolled out mid-2018. Acer will be utilizing the Intel Smart Sound Technology which is an integrated audio DSP (Digital Signal Processor) built to handle audio, voice, and speech interactions.
The company mentioned that the latest notebooks and desktops would support Amazon Alexa and respond to voice commands quickly while offering high fidelity audio without impacting system performance. Alexa on Acer will be able to check calendars, create lists, answer questions, play favorite music, podcasts or audiobooks; and manage smart home devices by controlling lights, thermostats, and home appliances through voice commands to Alexa.
Alexa voice assistant uses the voice and four digital microphones that support far-field voice recognition from up to nine feet (2.74 m) away, while others with dual microphones will be able to activate Alexa within three feet (0.91 m).
