After a long period of leaks and teasers, Oppo finally announced its latest flagship device, the Oppo N1 in September. The N1, initially believed to be camera-centric, ended up as a well rounded flagship device for the company. Innovations like the OTouch rear sensor and the unique rotating swivel unit for the camera made sure that the N1 is not just another Android phone, and has a number of firsts worth looking at. Yes, it is a potential trend setter, but it is also a trend follower. With a huge 5.9 inch screen, the N1 brings Oppo to proper phablet territory, addressing the growing trend of massively sized phones that bridge the gap between phones and the most popular form factor in tablets. Makes Oppo one of the first companies to go with this approach for a flagship device. The N1 is a phablet, which is currently considered a niche, but one that represents everything Oppo stands for. But the big question is, at a starting price of 599$, does it have the potential to rival the best Android hardware in the market? Lets find out in our in-depth review.

Gmail 4.7 update brings zip file downloading, vacation responder and more
Android users have long lamented the absence of the ability to download zip files. In the new Gmail 4.7 update, Google has finally brought in the ability alongside additional features that should be appreciated by most users.
First up is the all new Vacation Responder. What this allows you to do is to set start and end dates along with a subject and text following which you can use the toggle to send your vacation response only to contacts. The vacation responder can also be completely disabled using a toggle.
The next major feature is essentially something that is built into Android 4.4 KitKat. The Gmail 4.7 application gets the ability to print email messages via cloud printing. You can select a single message or all messages in a thread.
The third and most important feature is the ability to download archive formats including zip, gzip, bzip2 and tar amongst others. This has been a long requested feature and it is good to see Google finally implement it. The update should roll out to your phone over the next few days.

Gmail now displays images in messages by default, rolling out to Gmail for Android and iOS early 2014
Google has finally implemented the option to show embedded images in all your email messages by default. This restriction was to prevent users from opening emails from unknown senders who might try to use images to compromise the security of computer or mobile device. Google has implemented new improvements in how Gmail handles images to load all the images from default.
Regarding the new implementation, Google says,
Instead of serving images directly from their original external host servers, Gmail will now serve all images through Google’s own secure proxy servers. Your messages are more safe and secure, your images are checked for known viruses or malware, and you’ll never have to press that pesky “display images below” link again.
You can obviously change to behavior from the settings and choose Ask before showing. This feature is already rolling out to Gmail users on desktop. We didn't get this feature in the Google Apps mail yet, which might roll out gradually. This feature would be rolling out on Gmail mobile apps for Android and iOS in early 2014.

Samsung merges Digital Imaging and Mobile Communications businesses
In a bid to reaffirm their focus on smartphone optics and to create 'synergies' between cameras and smartphones, Samsung has integrated its Digital Imaging Business Division with the Wireless Business Division. The Korean company aims to have the largest share of global mirrorless camera market by 2015.
“We will transplant the brand, sales networks, software competency and manufacturing competitiveness of the Wireless Business Division into the Camera Business Division, and integrate the technical know-how of the two business divisions into competency for differentiating our smartphones,” said Samsung in a statement to ET.
Samsung's NX range of cameras run on what is essentially a smartphone backend, meanwhile smartphone photography is a force to be reckoned with and the imaging business would help to increase competitiveness of Samsung's devices in this field. The move makes a lot of sense given that the importance of point and shoot cameras is diminishing rapidly. Samsung had earlier shuffled the Digital Imaging Business Division into the Imaging Business Team. Samsung enjoys a 35% market share in the mobile segment and has cornered 11.8% of the digital cameras market. x

iPad mini with Retina display Photo Gallery
Apple seems to value the Indian market relatively more than it used to in the past and this is evident from the fact that it has launched its latest iteration of iPhones and iPads quite soon in India. The latest iPad Mini is also currently available in India. iPad Mini with Retina Display belies its changed internals with a similar build aesthetic as that of its predecessor.
The first difference that you would notice on the new iPad Mini is its amazing RETINA display which was missing in the predecessor. That is probably one of the biggest changes, but not the only change. In addition to adding a high resolution display, Apple has also given the iPad Mini the sheer muscle power that is present in the Apple iPad Air and iPhone - Apple A7 64bit processor. The looks and the solid aluminum build are the only remnants from the original iPad Mini.

The LG G2 is a all rounder flagship which wants to have the best of everything while the Nokia Lumia 1020 is a flagship that wants to take the cameras on smartphones to the next level. To be honest, both achieve that with own unique implementations of technology. Djibouti
Gabon
Guadeloupe

The updated list of maps should be infinitely helpful to travellers who are increasingly relying on maps on smartphones to help them find their way around.

iPad mini with Retina display vs iPad mini Photo Gallery
By launching the iPad Mini with Retina Display relatively early in India, Apple is showing that it is beginning to value the Indian market. Last year, when Apple announced a smaller iPad called as the iPad Mini, it missed one of the vital aspects - Retina Display; yet sold in large numbers. The tech industry was pretty sure an iPad Mini with Retina Display was coming in 2013 and as expected Apple announced the iPad Mini with Retina Display.
The first difference that you would notice on the new iPad Mini is its amazing RETINA display which was missing in the predecessor. That is probably one of the biggest changes, but not the only change. In addition to adding a high resolution display, Apple has given the iPad Mini its best processing chip - A7 64bit processor, the exact same one that powers the larger iPad Air and smaller iPhone 5s. However, since the Aluminum build of iPad Mini is hardly criticized, Apple has decided to retain the same solid build.
