The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was amongst best selling devices launched in 2016, Xiaomi launched it running on Android Lollipop despite launching in March 2016 and later in December 2016 rolled out Android Marshmallow update. Redmi Note 3 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 Mobile Platform and devices like Sony Xperia X with the same processor received Android Oreo, even Xiaomi’s own Mi Max (SD650 variant) runs on Android Nougat but Redmi Note 3 didn’t get same treatment as Mi Max despite having similar hardware but users can still enjoy the latest android on their Redmi Note 3, thanks to the awesome custom ROM developer community. We tried Pixel Experience ROM based on Android Oreo 8.1 on our unit and here are our impressions, Performance and Benchmarks: Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 is two-year-old chipset now but it is still capable of delivering a solid day to day performance, we obtained Antutu score of approx 95000 on Pixel Experience ROM as compared to 67719 on the stock MIUI Global ROM. We didn’t not test the performance with games but the phone didn’t have any problem in handling multitasking and we got a smooth and reliable day to day performance. GoPro has been seeing a significant downfall in its market this year, a total of 36% shares were down in 2018 cutting its market capitalization to roughly $700 million. The company even announced that it will exit drone industry. The only ray of hope for GoPro is get acquired by a company so that it can see any lift in the price. Chief Executive Officer Nick Woodman has said he is open to a deal and earlier this year the company hired investment bank JPMorgan Chase & Co. to advise it on a potential sale. A company that was once worth more than $10 billion has now fallen to about $761 million. A potential buy out could leverage GoPro’s brand and gain profit. If done right, GoPro could fetch  $1 billion according to The Information based on the price that Hewlett Packard paid for Palm, also a struggling electronics maker, in 2010. It is also reported that Xiaomi is looking for options to acquire GoPro, but doesn't want to overpay. Once the report came out, GoPro jumped as much as 8.8%. Either way, for now, nothing is official, so there's no way to tell if Xiaomi would go through the acquisition. Source 1, 2

Just yesterday there were reports that Gmail is being revamped with new web U.I, smart replies and more. Today we are having the first look at the updated Gmail and how it looks once it is rolled out. The new design is said to bring it closer to the company’s tweaks for Gmail on mobile devices. The new version of Gmail includes some subtle elements of Google’s Material Design and a number of new features that were originally introduced in Google's Inbox. Google is implementing the smart replies for Gmail web much like the Gmail for mobile which provides suggestions to reply to emails quickly. It is also bringing the new snooze feature that lets you temporarily remove emails from your inbox. Snooze and Smart Reply are both currently part of Google’s Inbox app for Gmail, and now both features are finally making their way to Gmail for the web. The new Gmail brings three different layouts to choose from; default interface will show you what kind of attachment is included in an email, including things like images, slides, documents or spreadsheets, right from your inbox. Next interface comfortably removes these icons and instead shows the familiar paperclip to signify an attachment. The 'Compact' is similar ...

Google made an announcement that the Lens in both Assistant and Photos would get new features like improved support for recognizing animals and this ability to detect cat and dog breeds is now rolling out to users. Earlier Google was only able to generically reply with “looks like a cat.”  Back in February, Google announced that Lens would be picking up “improved support for recognizing common animals and plants, like different dog breeds and flowers” in “the coming weeks,” and it now appears to be rolling to users. This feature is available for both Android and iOS. If Lens wasn't able to detect or find a match, it will offer up a carousel of possible results, like showing “I think one of these breeds is a match.” Selecting one will load the appropriate card with more details. This feature is also found in action through the Google Assistant on select flagship devices. Google Photos this week will also begin creating automatic photo books for cats and dogs. Source

Back in February, there were reports that Google is working on a web-based client for Android Messages. It looks like Google might be rolling out this very soon. The code hinted at compatibility with all major desktop browsers like Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc., rather than a stand-alone app. This feature would allow you to scan a QR code on your PC in order to pair it with the Android smartphone. Now the feature is inching closer to the launch as the Android side of the implementation seems complete. It also looks like Google Account linking is about ready to roll out as well as XDA Developers were able to enable it. Once the feature is live, you will be able to see “messages for web,” button in the menu. It will also show a popup bar at the bottom that informs you of the new Messages for Web feature, and once you press the option, it’ll take you to a new page asking you to go to scan a QR code on messages.android.com (it is currently resulting  404 error). There are new strings that hint at allowing you to link your Google account to give you a more “personalized experience.” For now, this is where the details about the Android Messages web client ...

Samsung sued over biometric patent infringement

$

Samsung flagships pack fingerprint sensors, iris scanners, and facial recognition tech which are more number of biometric authentications than most flagships out there. However, the company is now being sued by a US-based "data security firm," PACid Technologies, for infringing on two US patents and one Korean patent with its biometric features. The lawsuit is being filed on April 6th with the Texas Eastern District Court and comprises phones ranging from Galaxy S6 all the way to the Galaxy S8. PACid alleges that two US patents (U.S. Patent No. 9,577,994 and No. 9,876,771) and one South Korean patent (KR20110128567A) have been infringed. Additionally, Samsung Pass and Knox are also involved in the suit. PACid further adds that Samsung knows about its patents since January 2017 at the latest and that court should accept that claim. Samsung will now have to pay up to three times the standard rate of $1 per phone (35 U.S. Code § 284), or 2.82 billion USD in total. However, experts opine that PACid is nothing more than a patent troll under the disguise of a data security firm, suing companies that produce and sell products based on loose interpretations of patents. It also has a history of suing  Google, Apple, and Nintendo for patent infringement in the past. ...

Apple WatchOS 4.3.1 hints at support for third party watch faces

$

Ever since Apple introduced the 'Watch', developers are behind Apple asking for the ability to create own watch faces. Currently, only Apple has the ability to provide watch faces, while some of them have content from Pixar and Disney. The reasons behind the control might be Apple’s desire to control the experience and branding as much as possible. However, Code found on watchOS 4.3.1 suggests this could change in the future. A component of the NanoTimeKit framework, responsible for the watch faces, implements a developer tools server that’s probably designed to communicate with Xcode running on a Mac. From the coding of the message, the feature is not implemented at the moment, but it’s definitely something Apple has planned. This new ability might be coming with the watchOS 5, or be dropped altogether. We hope Apple goes through with this feature as it would be really interesting to see what developers will be bringing on the table with the new control. Source
