Apple to cut down access to popular law-enforcement tool for cracking iPhones

Apple mentioned that it would be changing its iPhone settings to close iPhone security hole that police use to crack devices. This move is to protect all its users, especially in countries where phones are readily obtained by police officials or criminals with extensive resources.  The privacy measures have been a major bearer of the tech industry, and the Cupertino company said that it would change default settings in the iOS; this setting will cut off the communication through the USB port when the phone has not been unlocked in the past hour. That port is how machines made by forensic companies GrayShift, Cellebrite and others connect and get around the security provisions that limit the password guesses count before the device freezes them out or erases data. Now they will be unable to run code on the devices after the hour is up An Apple spokesperson said that the change in settings would protect customers especially in countries where it is easy for law enforcement to seize and crack phones with fewer legal restrictions than under U.S. law. They also noted that criminals, spies and unscrupulous people often use the same techniques. After the company learned more about the methods, it reviewed the iPhone operating system ...

OnePlus Bullets Wireless Review

Wireless headphones have really come into their own over the last year or two with an increasing number of brands getting into the game. From the standard earbuds connected by a single cable to truly wireless and neckband style earphones, there's one for everyone. The OneMore Bullets Wireless are neckband style earphones, the company's first wireless pair at that. We've been testing these out over the last few days and here's what we think.  Design OnePlus has really mastered the art of packaging. Almost Apple-esque in nature, this carried forward to the box for the Bullets Wireless too. A neat white box with a silhouette of the headphone on top, it opens up to reveal a range of accessories and the headphones themselves. The headphones ship alongside a range of eartips & stabilization fins, necessary manuals, a rubber carrying case and a short red colored Dash Charging cable. The case is borderline useless. The headphones don't easily fit in and when you do crumple them up and stuff them in, there's no space for the charging cable. Sure, the red rubber case looks cool but a simpler draw string pouch or hard case would've been more useful. The design of the headphones themselves can be divided ...

Samsung already announced its plans of launching a Bixby-powered smart speaker in the second half of 2018. Though the company didn't offer any other details, a new patent from Samsung offers some interesting hints about the upcoming Bixby speaker. Interestingly, Samsung has filed the patent application back in November 2017 and has published in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) database a couple of weeks back. According to the patent diagrams, the said Bixby speaker sports a small robot-like design with a rotating head that turns towards the user issuing the commands. Interestingly, the upper portion of the device features a camera for facial recognition and will have seven microphones for accurate speech recognition, and a touchscreen display for showing content. Furthermore, the speaker is also said to support LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and possible USB and HDMI ports. It will feature common features like playing media, sending and receiving data from smart home devices, making calls, controlling IoT devices, etc. However, since there are just patent drawings, there's no way to tell if the said features would make it to the upcoming Bixby speaker. With Google Home and Amazon smart speakers ruling the market, Samsung needs to bring something new to the table to ...

Microsoft today announced that it uses its AI to detect which Windows 10 devices should get an update first. AI is becoming so common these days that brands are using the technology to make things easier for users, but it is slowly becoming boring at the same time as it eliminates the use of the creative side of the user.  The company says that it is seeing higher satisfaction numbers, fewer known issues, and lower support call volumes compared to previous Windows 10 releases. Microsoft started a pilot of this program during last Fall's Creator's Update roll out; the company has gathered types of Windows 10 devices that had good update experiences and then trained its AI model to recognise those types of devices and target them for earlier updates. This not only improves the upgrade experience but AI also allows the updates to go faster. It also added that the April 2018 Update is officially the fastest version of Windows 10 to reach 250 million devices. This method also collects for any feedback or telemetry data and indicate if there might be any issues so that Microsoft can quickly adjust and prevent affected devices from being offered the update until we thoroughly investigate.  An ...
