YouTube said to be testing Instagram-like Stories

Snapchat's Stories now feels like one great feature as everyone now wants to jump on it. It was Instagram who directly ripped off the feature and later was added to Facebook and Messenger, now it is YouTube who wants in. The feature on YouTube was first spotted a while ago and it looks exactly like the one we are using on Instagram.  The U.I displays a red ring around new Stories, and when you tap on it, stories will be opened much like how it is on Instagram. If you'd think Google might tweak the switch the UI up a bit, then you are in for a big disappointment. Another difference compared to the stories of Instagram is the presence of the Subscribe button and the inability to comment or reply to the story. As mentioned, the company is still testing the feature, so it might be limited to a section of creators or users as it is a server-side roll out for selected users. Source | Via

With 5G launch right around the corner, companies are moving at a fast pace to launch products with the latest technology and one among them is Lenovo. The company is now claiming to be the first one to launch a 5G smartphone, using a currently unannounced Qualcomm chip. Lenovo's  VP Chang Cheng on Weibo said that the company will offer the world’s first 5G mobile phone, based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. However, the post is now deleted. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is said to enter mass production later this year, which would make it possible for the chip to make an appearance in early 2019 phones. Qualcomm earlier this year announced that it has signed 5G modem and Snapdragon chip agreements with smartphone makers. It also vaguely mentioned that it is working on with an unspecified customer to bring their first 5G devices to market as early as the end of this year. Though Qualcomm is expected to debut their 5G phones early next year, the company could announce the Snapdragon 855 at a planned Snapdragon event before this year. On the other hand, it is rumored that Lenovo-owned Motorola is working on a 5G moto Mod that will go along with ...

YouTube is said to be experimenting with new swipe-based gesture navigation and this would make the navigating between videos in the YouTube app a whole lot easier. You can slide with your finger to swipe between videos.  YouTube is testing this feature with its native app that we are familiar with and just adds swiping. Dragging to the left or right pulls you from video to video within the queue. However, this isn't widely rolling out yet and might take sometime before it rolls out to everyone. However, both Google and YouTube might decide to cancel this feature altogether even before the official rollout begins, since these kinds of tests are pretty common. At this moment, details about this feature are pretty slim, we should know more details when YouTube makes an announcement of the same. Source | Via

The Vivo Nex is a hard to forget device. When we reviewed it a few days back, we went as far as to call it a milestone that will be remembered as a pivotal point in smartphone history. From the barely there bezels, the motorized slider, in-screen fingerprint reader and the top of the line internals, this is as close as you to get to a near perfect smartphone spec sheet. All Screen Design A key element chased in modern smartphone design is minimal bezels. From gigantic bars on all sides, we’ve evolved to the point where you have a mere sliver at best. But why? What is to be gained by this constant pursuit of complicated engineering? Immersiveness. Getting rid of bezels leaves you with a clean canvas that brings you face to face with your media and content. On the Vivo NEX, interacting with the smartphone is an extremely pleasurable experience because of the way the icons hover on the screen. The giant 6.59” screen merely acting as a conduit between your world of media consumption, creation and more. While Xiaomi’s Mi Mix may take the credit for starting the trend, the Vivo NEX has come the closest to the final ...

Google acknowledges it is responsible for UIDAI helpline number added to Android phonebook, will roll out a fix soon

This week Android users in India reported Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) toll-free helpline number saved in their phonebook automatically. After a sudden uproar on Twitter, UIDAI responded saying that it has not asked or communicated with any manufacturer or service provider for providing any such facility and the said '18003001947' is outdated and invalid UIDAI toll-free number. Today, Google has responded saying that it is responsive for this since the helpline number was accidentally coded into the SetUp wizard of the Android release given to OEMs for use in India back in 2014, and it has remained there since, so it got transferred to the contacts on any new device. This makes sense since some of the iOS users also saw the UIDAI contact in their phonebook, so it must have got synced when they moved from Android to iPhone. Google also assured that this is not an unauthorised access of their Android devices. It is working on a fix, which will be rolled out to all OEMs in an upcoming release of SetUp wizard. In a tweet, Google said: Our internal review has revealed that in 2014, the then UIDAI helpline number and the 112 distress helpline number were inadvertently coded into the SetUp wizard of ...
