AOSP commits from early this year revealed that the Android 9.0 Pie would bring support for WiFi Direct. This would allow your phone to print documents over a peer-to-peer connection without being on the same Wi-Fi network. Though OEMs added support through their print service plugins, Stock Android didn't support it until now. The final release of Android 9.0 Pie includes this feature, and it was developed in cooperation with the Mopria Alliance, which consists of Canon, HP, Samsung, Microsoft, Xerox, and other companies. The feature will appear alongside the other local and Google Cloud devices. The Mopria Alliance today announced that Android 9 (Pie) users would have Wi-Fi Direct printing to Mopria certified printers as a built-in feature on their mobile devices, courtesy of the Android Default Print Service featuring core printing technology from the Mopria Print Service. The Default Print Service was first debuted in Android 8.0 Oreo. Brent Richtsmeier, Vice Chairperson of the Mopria Alliance Steering Committee, said: A key tenant of the Mopria Alliance strategy is to simplify print and scan while also focusing on improving the printing experience on Android. Through continuous contributions to the Android Open Source Project, we will continue to make printing on Android as streamlined, secure and intuitive as possible. Source

Apple at the WWDC 2018 introduced the ability to group Facetime with about 32 members and now for the disappointing news, Group FaceTime for iPhone, iPad, and Mac might be delayed. It won't be ready in time for iOS 12 and macOS Mojave launch next month. Users will have to wait a little longer to use the feature where you can expand video calling from one-on-one calls to up to 32 participants. This delay reminds of the AirPlay 2 feature for iOS 11 which got delayed by a year and was only released in iOS 11.4. Hopefully, the group facetime won't see such a delayed release. The Apple guidance, for now, suggests a 12.1 or 12.2 release, not 12.4 like the iOS 11 AirPlay 2 roll out. Samsung mocked Apple's group facetime feature by quoting "why would anyone want to do that though," and now this delay makes the situation a bit awkward for Apple. The new iOS 12 beta 7 build’s release notes: Group FaceTime has been removed from the initial release of iOS 12 and will ship in a future software update later this fall. Source

Since it is a server-side roll out, you don't even have to update the app.  Confidential mode is now available on mobile devices and can help you protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. As for non-Google email accounts, the recipient will get a link to open the email in a secure web portal. For Gmail users, these emails appear in Gmail like other Emails. To use the confidential mode, just compose the mail like you usually do, and at the top of the overflow menu, you will now see a new 'Confidential Mode' option. Once you select that, Gmail asks you to choose an expiration time and whether a pass code is required to open the message. Samsung seems to be working on a followup to its Odyssey VR headset which was launched last year. The new model 'Samsung HMD Odyssey+' has now appeared passing through the FCC, suggesting that the launch might be right around the corner.  According to the FCC documentation filed by Samsung, the headset is named the HMD Odyssey+, sporting model number XE800ZBA. The specifications of the VR headset which might change don't show any obvious major changes from the original model. It features the same 1,440 × 1,600 resolution per eye, 110-degree field of view and sports an ‘AMOLED+SFS’ but it isn't clear what the SFS stands for. it could be related to the ‘Anti SDE’ technology that Samsung has been working on. Furthermore, it also reveals features like Wider Eye box, Wider Part of Nose, Anti-fog.’ It also suggests lenses with a larger ‘sweet spot’, a more comfortable nose opening, and ability to reduce lens fogging. Interestingly, the Odyssey+ specs indicate ‘Windows MR / Steam VR' platform support. There’s also a chance that the Odyssey+ could offer native SteamVR compatibility. We currently don't any details regarding the launch time frame, so we need to wait for a while. Source | Via
