How will Dual-SIM feature work on the new iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr with eSIM

0
0
One of the most anticipated features in the new iPhones of 2018 was Dual SIM support which has been a common feature in most Android smartphones. This feature was leaked in the iOS code base quite a while back, but got unveiled with excellent detail in the Apple keynote. Dual SIM was a feature which was limited to entry level or mid-tier smartphones until recent times when manufacturers like Huawei, Samsung, LG, OnePlus have been including Dual-SIM support even in their flagship smartphones. The Need for Dual SIM Why would I want to use 2 SIM cards or phone numbers in a single device?  Users in India and other similar countries use more than one SIM for better connectivity or more attractive tariffs. In markets like US or Europe, Dual SIM phones are a rare breed and every time I travel to these countries, consumers I meet are shocked that such functionality exists and would love to have a single device for work and personal use. Apple is going after this audience who are looking to carry a single smartphone either for business or travel needs. The Apple approach to 2 SIM cards This is not the first time Apple is doing something in ...

Chrome 70 beta brings fingerprint login support for Web Authentication on Android and Mac, enables TLS 1.3 and more

0

Chrome has been updated to V70 beta as the V69 is finally stable. This beta is not as big as the previous version but has security-focused features. Chrome 67 for desktop has added web authentications which will allow sites to use fingerprint or a Bluetooth key as the sole login method. This API is now enabled by default on Android. From now when you visit a site that supports web authentication Chrome will prompt you to use a security key. Google says that fingerprints will also work. Though there are many ways for web pages to read barcodes, or identify faces with the help of machine learning, since they have an effect on performance, Google is adding its own shape detection functionality to Chrome. The Shape Detection API is present in Chrome 70 as an "origin trial," meaning it's not ready for widespread use. The API can detect three types of objects in images; faces, barcodes, and text. However, for now, compatibility varies from platform to platform, because this requires the host operating system to have the proper object detection APIs. Furthermore, the Transport Layer Security, or TLS, is the protocol that allows data to be transferred over the internet securely. Chrome 70 includes support for version 1.3 ...

Google Dragonfly censored search engine said to link searches to phone numbers in China ; faces backslash from employees

0
0
It is a known fact that Google is said to be working on a censored search engine in China. Now according to a new report, the company has built a prototype of a censored search engine for China linking users’ searches to their personal phone numbers, making it easier for the Chinese government to monitor people’s queries. The search engine is codenamed Dragonfly. It is designed for Android devices and would remove content deemed sensitive by China’s ruling Communist Party regime, such as information about political dissidents, free speech, democracy, human rights, and peaceful protest. Google compiled a censorship blacklist that included terms such as “human rights,” “student protest,” and “Nobel Prize” in Mandarin. Concerns from groups say that beyond the censorship, user data stored by Google on the Chinese mainland could be accessible to Chinese authorities, who routinely target political activists and journalists. The search engine would be operated as part of a “joint venture” partnership with a company based in mainland China. Furthermore, the venture would have the ability to update the search term blacklists. This raises new questions about whether Google executives in the U.S. would be able to maintain effective control and oversight over the censorship. That doesn't end here, a list of seven employees said to have quit ...

Apple Watch Series 4 shipments surpass expectations; iPhone XS poses lackluster demand: Kuo

Apple last week introduced the Watch Series 4 and the new iPhones and thanks to the new innovative features like ECG support, Apple Watch Series 4 is seemingly becoming popular, according to Kuo. He predicts Apple Watch shipments will reach 18 million units in 2018, of which the Watch Series 4 said to account for 50-55%.  If ECG support is expanded to more countries, the Series 4 Watch could see even stronger shipment momentum. However, the iPhone XS pre-orders are "lower-than-expected," since customers are opting for the iPhone XS Max or wait for the iPhone XR. The iPhone XS orders will account for only 10-15% shipments of the new 2018 iPhones, down from 15 to 20%, according to Kuo. Given the lower price tag and dual SIM support in China, the iPhone XR looks positive. It will be available to pre-order from October 19th. The iPhone XR shipments increased from an early forecast; up from 50 to 55 percent previously. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 pre-orders will begin from September 21st. Kuo in a statement said: There is strong Chinese demand thanks to the gold casing, dual-SIM, and large display. The XS Max average shipping time is shorter ...

Samsung's smartphone line-up includes the Galaxy J/On series targeting the budget segment, A series for mid-range smartphones, and the Galaxy S/Note series for flagship devices. Now according to an ET News report based on industry sources, Samsung is said to be reorganizing its budget and midrange smartphone lineups. If reports are to be believed, Samsung is said to be planning on killing the Galaxy J series entirely and expand the Galaxy A series with some models covering the J-series price points. Samsung is also said to be planning on introducing the Galaxy M lineup to replace the online-exclusive Galaxy On series devices. The Galaxy M series will target the budget segment and will be reportedly priced very competitively so that Samsung can effectively compete against Chinese rivals in markets like India, Latin America and in China. It looks like Samsung might take a hit on its profit margins in order to maintain its position in these key markets. This move doesn't come as a surprise since the company’s mobile chief, DJ Koh, has announced a new strategy for the company’s midrange devices to make them more competitive against the Chinese brands. Instead of borrowing features from its flagships, Samsung is planning on developing innovative features specifically ...

These new devices aimed at Amazon's ambition to make its Alexa voice technology focused on areas where people spend most of their time; at home and in the car. These products will also mark Amazon's first move into the home appliances space. Though the success of these products remains to be seen, the move signifies Amazon's heavy interest in the connected home. The company is reported to be working on a secretive home robot, as well. Having its own home appliances also opens up a new sales channel for Amazon. Jeff Bezos in a statement in July said: We want customers to be able to use Alexa wherever they are.
