Google overhauls Image search on desktop, brings Lens to Google Images

Google has introduced three fundamental shifts including a range of new features that use AI to make your search experience more visual. The company also announced that it is making the Google Images experience even more useful and powerful. Google earlier this year worked with AMP Project to announce AMP stories, an open source library that makes it easy for anyone to create a story on the open web. Now Google announced that it will use AI to intelligently construct AMP stories and surface this content in Search. It is starting the stories about notable people like celebrities and athletes—providing a glimpse into facts and important moments from their lives in a rich, visual format. This format lets you discover content from the web. Using computer vision, Google is now able to deeply understand the content of a video and help you quickly find the most useful information in a new experience called featured videos. With featured videos, Google is aiming to deeply understand the topic space and show the most relevant videos for those subtopics. Google is also introducing new features to help you find visual information more easily. It is now prioritizing sites where the image is central to the page, ...

Google adds activity cards and collections to Search results

Google has shared new features that help you resume tasks where you left off, keep track of ideas and content that you found useful, and get relevant suggestions of things to explore next. The new activity card will help you pick up from where you left off in Search. Next time When you revisit a query related to a task you've started in the past, Google will show you a card with relevant pages you’ve already visited and previous queries you’ve done on this topic. This helps you retrace your steps when you might not remember which sites had that useful information you’d found earlier. This information will only appear when it’s useful and it won’t appear for every search. You can easily remove results from your history, pause seeing this card, or choose not to see it all together. This new activity card will be available in Search later this year. You can also keep track of the searches  by adding useful content to Collections. Collections in Search help you keep track of content you’ve visited, such as a website or article or image, and quickly get back to it later. The improved Collections experience lets you add your content from an activity card directly ...

Apple iPhone XS and XS Max which went on sale recently are getting complaints from customers who are noticing an issue with LTE and Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity when compared to other, older Apple devices. Multiple users have reported that there are noticeable differences in cellular reception between the iPhone XS models and the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, suggesting this is a widespread problem. It is reported that users are noticing fewer bars and the poor signal on iPhone XS and XS Max especially in areas where the signal is weak. Furthermore, many of the complaints are coming from Verizon users, suggesting the issue could potentially be carrier specific. The issue is said to be related to Qualcomm vs. Intel models as the new iPhone XS and XS Max are using Intel modems, while older devices used a mix of Qualcomm and Intel modems. AT&T iPhone 8 and iPhone X models used Intel modems previously, while Verizon iPhones had Qualcomm modems. Some AT&T and T-Mobile users are complaining of connectivity problems too, while others have noticed better signal, this is leading to a confusion among users. At the moment, it's not clear if modem differences are causing the connectivity issues that iPhone XS and XS ...

Qualcomm accuses Apple of stealing trade secrets to improve performance of Intel chips

Qualcomm seems to be in no mood to stop its legal battle against Apple as the chip maker freshly accuses Apple of stealing software and tools to improve chips from its rival Intel. Qualcomm is asking the judge to include the consideration of the latest accusations to a case between the two in state court in California. The suit is due to go to trial in April next year. With this new accusation, the total suits and counter suits between Qualcomm and Apple are now more than 70 across the globe. On the other hand, Apple is fighting legally with Qualcomm accusing it of illegally using dominance of the market to force it to pay unfair technology licensing fees. Qualcomm in response said that Apple is stealing its intellectual property and the legal assault is really a commercial dispute aimed at securing lower prices to increase profitability. Apple currently uses Intel modems, chips exclusively to connect smartphones to cellular networks to access data and voice, in the latest versions of the iPhone. Qualcomm accuses Apple of helping Intel engineers to fine-tune the modems to improve performance using Qualcomm’s software and tools. That’s in breach of the terms of the licenses of that ...

With the upcoming Chrome release, whenever you sign into any Google website on Chrome, you will also be signed into Chrome with the same account, as reported earlier. You will also see your Google Account picture right in the Chrome UI, so you can easily see your sign-in status. When you sign out, either directly from Chrome or from any Google website, you’re completely signed out of your Google Account. Google is clearly stating that this change to sign-in does not turn on Chrome sync. Users who want data like their browsing history, passwords, and bookmarks available on other devices must take additional action, such as turning on sync. The new change is to let users know which Google account is signed in. Google says that this is to prevent users from inadvertently performing searches or navigating to websites that could be saved to a different user’s synced account. These changes will be available in the next release of Chrome; 70 which is slated to release in mid-October. It is also adding more control that allows users to turn off linking web-based sign-in with browser-based sign-in. For users that disable this feature, signing into a Google website will not sign them into Chrome. It ...
