Google today announced that starting today, users can use Google Maps to easily plan where to go as a group. All you have to do is just long press on any place to add the place to shortlist-the small floating bubble on the side of your screen. Once you've added places, you can quickly share the list with your friends on any messaging platform, add or remove additional places, and vote together in Google Maps.
Though this might sound familiar, but including Maps within group planning functionality is very convenient. The group planning feature in Maps starts rolling out for Android and iOS this week.
Sophia Lin, Senior Product Manager, Google Maps in a blog post said:

Off lately Google has been adding a dark mode to its native apps including Android Messages, YouTube. Now the company might soon bring the dark mode to Google Phone app as well as it teased in the PlayStore change log a while ago. While the latest update doesn't bring the change, it sure hints at it.
Going by the screenshots, the main screen has this gradient at the top which still needs to be reversed and the setting screen has dark text which needs to be in white when the background is black. It is unclear if the contact's thumbnail will also be in dark theme, but for now, they still have light pastels. It is possible that they will go through a darkening process as they seem out of place in an otherwise dark screen.
The Dark mode settings will be present under the 'Display options' in the Phone app. Furthermore, the Settings screen lost its blue title bar, switched to the white navigation bar, and added back dividing lines that used to be common when it is in Halo.

Microsoft today announced that it is integrating its Translator within Swiftkey keyboard for Android. The Translator uses artificial intelligence to provide translations for more than 60 languages.
This real-time translation comes handy especially if you have friends speaking a different language. Once users tap the Microsoft Translator icon on the SwiftKey keyboard, the app translates as you type and translates incoming messages that users copy. Users do not have to leave the keyboard in order to do the translations.
The app also remembers users’ preferences, eliminating the need to scroll through the full list of the more than 60 available languages to select which languages to translate to and from each time the feature is engaged. This translation is also available offline for users who have also downloaded the Microsoft Translator app. Microsoft Translator is a part of Azure Cognitive Services, a collection of AI algorithms. The translation feature is currently available for Android.
Colleen Hall, senior product manager, SwiftKey said:
We wanted to make it really easy for users to be able to translate as they type and to be able to translate incoming messages. We have always had a strong multilingual offering. Now we are bringing Translator to that as well.
Google with an aim to make travel planning easier today is announcing a new update to Trips which starting from October will help you manage the travel by organizing what you've saved and searched for and letting you resume where you left off before.
You can see Your Trips on the “my trips” on Google, or tap on Your Trips tab from Google Flights or Hotels on your phone. Furthermore, Google will help you with the travel planning by surfacing relevant suggestions right in Google Search. It will show you things to do, days to travel type articles. Once you start booking and receive your flight or hotel email confirmations in Gmail, these recommendations will be customized in search results.
Google also mentioned that it is expanding the flight rates comparison to let users know whether a flight price is higher or lower than usual. Google currently surfaces this information during Thanksgiving holidays. This tip will appear worldwide over the coming weeks when you search for flights on your phone. Google will also notify you if prices are not going to drop or if they’re likely to rise in the next five days. It will also surface if the hotel is close to things like landmarks or ...
Finnish holdings firm MPH Technologies has filed a fresh lawsuit on Apple in federal court accusing the company of patent-infringing with products including iMessage and FaceTime. MPH Technologies attempted to license its IP to Apple in 2016. The lawsuit is being filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
The firm filed the lawsuit asserting eight patents relating to secure messaging solutions, targeting existing Apple software and services. This specially infringes on IP related to sending and forwarding messages over a secure connection. The lawsuit includes iMessage, FaceTime and Apple's always-on VPN feature, the latter being a mobile device management (MDM) solution marketed to corporations and educational institutions.
According to MPH, Apple has implemented the protected tech in devices running macOS, iOS and watchOS without authorization. MPH claims that it has informed Apple about the patent infringement in a series of emails back in July 2016, this lead to a telephonic conversation with Apple's patent acquisitions executive. This later is followed by a letter in October 2016 detailing the applicability of MPH's patents and introduced Apple to a pending patent that was later granted.
Months after reviewing MPH's documents, Apple sent a letter containing conclusory statements, saying it did not "believe a license is required, as the ...

In a blog post, Google said:

It’s traditionally been difficult to know the creator of images on the web, as well as who might own the rights. This information is often part of image metadata, and is key to protecting image ...
Verizon, Nokia, and Qualcomm Technologies recently reached peak data speeds of 1.45 gigabits per second (Gbps) on LTE in a live commercial environment using six channel carrier aggregation. For the first time in the USA, three companies in a commercial environment combined six separate channels of the spectrum.
This record-breaking speeds on 4G LTE were reached on Verizon's network in New York using a combination of Verizon’s licensed PCS and AWS spectrum in conjunction with four carriers of LAA (License Assisted Access) spectrum. The demonstration used Nokia’s AirScale base station and Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile test device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem. The demonstration in New York also used LTE Advanced feature, 256 QAM for uploads and 4x4 MIMO. In mid-2018, Verizon announced these technologies were available in over 1,100 markets nationwide.
Stephen Marino, Senior Vice President, Verizon Account Team, Nokia.
By using the Nokia AirScale, which is designed for 5G, we have taken an important step on the road to 5G, both in terms of customer data rate experience and network infrastructure.
Bill Stone, Vice President of Technology Planning and Development for Verizon said:
When we first launched our LTE network, we knew there would be a lot of room for innovation and to expand its capabilities. ...
