Is the Pixel 3 XL the most leaked smartphone in history? That's entirely possible. But hardware only tells a part of the story. We were at the launch of Google’s latest in New York and here’s our first impressions of the all new Google Pixel 3 family.
Let’s talk design. The ‘notch’ has taken over practically all Android flagships and the larger Pixel is no exception. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen leaked images of the Pixel 3 XL and we can confirm that the notch is just as big as you’d feared. Even larger than the chin of the phone, it cuts deep into the 6.3” OLED panel. It's not ideal and won’t help the phone win any design awards but as I’ve observed over the last few months of ‘notch’ living, you get used to it. Should you have to? Probably not but hey, Google justifies it by adding in dual cameras as well as dual front firing speakers. More on these in a bit.
Right, now that we’ve talked about the notch, there’s the other biggie. Last year’s Pixel 2 XL was widely derided for its terrible OLED panel. The benchmark was set low but the ...
Back in May, Google introduced 'Smart Compose' in Gmail on the web, which uses machine learning to help you draft emails faster. Now, Google announced that it is bringing Smart Compose to the Gmail mobile app, starting with Pixel 3. Smart Compose will offer writing suggestions as you type and if you like what you see, just swipe right to use it.
It is powered by artificial intelligence and will help you draft emails from a lot faster. The Gmail Smart Compose feature will suggest users in completing the sentences in your emails so that you can finish the draft with ease. Since A.I works in the background, you can write an email like you normally would, and Smart Compose will offer suggestions as you type.
Smart Compose has already rolled out globally in English and in the coming months, Google is planning on expanding the supporting to four new languages: Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese and more supported device beginning in 2019.
Drowned out just a bit by the noise surrounding the all new Pixel phones, the Google Home Hub is an all-new addition to the 'Home' category of smart speakers. The first Google-branded smart home device to be equipped with a display, it's interesting how the likes of Lenovo managed to get to market ahead of the Big G. Still, there's a lot to like here. Let's take a closer look.
I'll be honest, I love the premise of having a display equipped assistant in a common living room areas or perhaps in the kitchen. Over the last few months I've really taken to listening to podcasts over my Google Home Mini in the kitchen or quickly checking traffic conditions on the way out. For a lot of these functions though, Google simply hands over potential feedback to your phone. Map or navigation data, for example, gets passed over to your phone. The Home Hub exists to solve this problem.
A quick glance at the Home Hub reminds you of old school tablets like the Nexus 7. The Hub has a 7-inch display, no cameras (privacy concerns) and pretty powerful speakers. The OS onboard is Android Things which means that you can't sideload just any ...
Google has announced the Pixel 3 flagships with a new improved camera and camera APK which sports multiple difference from the current app on Pixels and Pixel 2 XL. These changes include an updated interface, RAW support, and a new panorama mode.
Apple has added Apple-esque carousel above for switching to different modes and the outdated hamburger menu is gone, and the carousel includes Panorama and Portrait. Other modes and settings are present in a new tab called 'More.' It also has a new zoom UI, a white ring around your photos, and the color temperature icon has been tweaked.
While the settings look almost the same, but once you dig in a little, you will start noticing differences. It finally adds RAW support under the 'Advanced' section and there's also a direct link to RAW images. Once the RAW toggle is turned on, a quick setting option on the top of the viewfinder allows you to switch between JPEG only and RAW+JPEG. The burst settings are now gone and it makes sense.
The new version Panorama mode isn't dotted anymore, as Google is using a better stitching quality, and panoramas are now optimized for VR viewing as well. Panoramas can now record sound; just hit the little ...
