Google Assistant may get new dedicated ‘List and Notes’ web app

0
0
It looks like Google seems to be working on a new "List and Notes" web app that ties into the Google Assistant. This would allow users to set their own default list and note taking provider in Assistant. The URL of the feature is live and is also mentioned in a string of the teardown of the latest Google app beta. The web app is very basic and is completely styled with the Google Material Theme. It features two tabs for “Lists” and “Notes,” as well as a bottom app bar. The multi-colored FAB at center allows users to create a new list or note. Since it is Google. the lists and notes are saved across devices. Users have the ability to make a simple list that has the option to mark off items or delete entirely. Lists and notes can be titled, but there is no other real feature set to them. The exact nature of this Google Assistant Lists and Notes web app is unclear. It could be a default option for Google Assistant but seems silly in the light of Google making an entirely different service that does not sync with Google Keep or Google Tasks. Google Keep which is rebranded to Keep Notes recently received ...

Google Pixel series and bugs seem like a never-ending story as the recent batch of Pixel 3 and 3 XL phones which are making their way into customer's hands are reporting of software related issues. It is being reported that Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, thanks to 4GB of RAM, could be having memory management issue. Reports state that taking a photo is apparently enough to kill the music player if it's playing music in the background. Tests suggest that the phone couldn't handle more than 3-4 apps as they are forced out of memory. The reports started flowing even before the phone hit the markets. Android Police's Artem who was testing the Pixel 3 XL and found that merely cycling between Chrome, Google+, and Twitter was enough to force Chrome out of memory on the Pixel 3 XL, requiring that the app is reloaded the next time it is opened. It is clear the reason behind this issue is because of the poor memory management, it isn't clear if it is a result of Google's decision to go with just 4GB of RAM. Hopefully, it's an issue that can be fixed via update. Moving along, memory management isn't the only issue Pixel 3 ...

Samsung has filed a patent with the USPTO and WIPO which is a method for acquiring biometric information and electronic device supporting the same’. The patent was published on October 18, 2018. Unlike the regular optical in-display fingerprint scanner, Samsung has patented a new technology that makes it possible to use the entire display as a fingerprint scanner. The patent describes a Samsung smartphone with one or two processors; a main processor and a second low-power processor which will control the biometric sensor, the touch sensor, and the lighting sensor. The 2nd processor can perform all tasks independently as long as the smartphone is locked. The main processor can remain in sleep mode and thus save on battery consumption. Once the touch is detected on the screen, the brightness of the display will be increased and post which a three scan authentication is done at different brightness levels. The information gathered will be combined for a more reliable authentication. This technique would also make it possible to scan a wet or dirty finger. For the three scans, the smartphone needs 60 to 90 milliseconds. The processor needs 200 to 300 milliseconds in between to adjust the brightness. However, the patent description doesn't give any ...

Google has quietly launched its third-generation Chromecast, after it was introduced at the Pixel event earlier this month. It still has a circular design with built-in HDMI cable and it comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5Ghz) support, however the Wi-Fi reception has been improved with maximum antenna gain of 4dBi compared to Chromecast 2’s 2.1dBi gain, which is about 50% improvement. The specs page doesn’t reveal Bluetooth support, as it was revealed in the FCC filing, but we expect to hear more from Google. It lets users play music in sync with other speakers connected to Google’s smart devices, like a Chromecast Audio dongle, but it will be available via an update later this year. The Google Chromecast 3 comes in Charcoal color, is priced at Rs. 3,499, which is Rs. 100 more than the launch price of the Chromecast 2. It is available for pre-order from Flipkart, and goes on sale from today midnight during Flipkart's Festive Dhamaka Days sale.

Google acknowledges Android fraud that was stealing millions in fake ad revenue, has removed those apps and blacklisted sites

Owing to the new aspects of an ad fraud operation across apps and websites that were monetizing with numerous ad platforms, Google in the past week removed apps involved in the ad fraud scheme, so they can no longer monetize with Google. It also blacklisted additional apps and websites that are outside of its ad network, to ensure that advertisers using Display & Video 360 do not buy any of this traffic. Google says that it is continuing to monitor this operation and will continue to take action if it finds any additional invalid traffic. Google estimates that the dollar value impacted how much advertiser spends across the apps and websites involved in the operation and is under $10 million. The majority of impacted advertiser spend was from invalid traffic on inventory from non-Google, third-party ad networks. Google deploys comprehensive, state-of-the-art systems and procedures to combat ad fraud. The company's engineering and operations teams, across various organizations, are also taking systemic action to disrupt this threat, including the take down of command and control infrastructure that powers the associated botnet. In addition, Google has shared relevant technical information with trusted partners across the ecosystem, so that they can also harden their defenses and ...

iOS 12.1 will improve selfie quality on the iPhone XS and XR

0
0
Ever since Apple launched the iPhone XS, it has been criticized for its front-camera for overly smoothening skin. Though Apple has always insisted it doesn’t use any beautification filters, whatever may be the case, the issue definitely exits. However, Apple acknowledged the criticism and said that it will fix this issue with iOS 12.1 update. The company will fix the bug in its smart HDR camera system that resulted in smoother-looking photos taken by the front camera on the iPhone XS and XR. Basically, the Smart HDR feature is choosing the wrong base for HDR processing when you take the selfie. Instead of choosing a frame with a short shutter speed to freeze motion and preserve detail, it would sometimes choose a frame with longer shutter speed. Since the front camera does not have optical image stabilization, it takes blurrier shots at the same shutter speed as the rear, stabilized camera. The result is a loss of detail in the image that looks like smoothing on the front camera. All these issues will be fixed in iOS 12.1 which will pick the sharpest base frame for the HDR merge when taking selfies. Source

Samsung Display has filed a patent for a tablet with a flexible and bendable screen. The patent was filed with WIPO in April 2018 for a 'Display Device' and was published on October 11, 2018. The patented tablet can be bent in two directions exactly in the middle The device lets you use it folded or unfolded; if you want to use a small display, you can bend the tablet in the opposite direction. The user interface will then be adjusted, compared to when you use the device in a fully open state. This Samsung tablet is expected to come with a flexible and bendable screen with a cover on both the left and right side of the display.
