The OPPO RX17 Pro has a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.5 and f/2.4 variable aperture that intelligently switches depending on the light and also has OIS. With the launch of the all-new Amazon Echo Plus, the company appears to have taken consumer feedback seriously and has made some very tangible changes to the hardware. From improved acoustics to design and more, there's a lot going for the Amazon Echo Plus 2018 Edition. But how does it compare to competitors like the Google Home? Let's find out in our review.
The 2nd generation Echo Plus is a complete departure from the original industrial looking model. Where the first generation Echo Plus resembled a really high tech trash can, the all-new Echo Plus has a fabric and plastic design that simply looks more organic and fits well into home decor.
The metal mesh design has been replaced by a fabric shell that runs around the entire body of the speaker. The top is made of black plastic and has four buttons that let you adjust volume, mute and invoke Alexa. The plastic surface, at least in the black variant, looks a bit cheap but is rugged enough to hold off scratches.
There's a 360-degree ring of LEDs around the top edge that turns a deep blue every time you call out Alexa. These are RGB lights that can change colour depending on ...

Alongside the all new 2018 edition Echo Plus, Amazon also announced a new Echo Dot recently. The 3rd generation Echo Dot makes improvements in design and audio while retaining the same basic formula. Let's take a closer look at it.
Like the Echo Plus, the new Echo Dot too eschews the industrial looking all metal design. A shorter and squatter version of the Echo Plus, the Dot is surrounded by fabric on the sides while the top is matte plastic with four buttons on top. The buttons let you control volume, mute the microphones and invoke Alexa.
A ring of LEDs run around the top of the speaker that turns blue when you invoke Alexa. A greenish yellow light indicates volume percentage. Meanwhile, just like the larger speakers, a teal coloured light bar follows you around as the Dot switches between the four far-field microphones to the one nearest you. The lights turn red when the speaker is on mute.
At the back is a power port as well as an auxiliary port for connecting the Dot to larger speakers. Unlike on the Echo Plus, you cannot use the port as an input but the Dot's limited audio capabilities mean that you're not really ...

The U.S. federal court in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which monitors acts of commerce, ruled against Qualcomm over the alleged anti-competitive practices and abuse of FRAND patents. This means that Qualcomm must license its modem patents to competitors.
The motion was strongly supported by the rest of the industry and potentially weakens its stranglehold on the market. The ruling came out of a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit against Qualcomm, which was filed near the start of 2017. The key highlight of the ruling is whether Qualcomm has to license standard-essential patents to competitors and the court has ruled that it should do. Until now, Qualcomm has only offered licenses to companies that directly manufacture smartphones.
Qualcomm seems to have done that only when it was directly selling the chips to them. This means that companies like Intel which is badly trying to compete with Qualcomm had to work around Qualcomm's patents to sell its modems of its own and brands like Apple and Samsung also had to play by Qualcomm to sell its smartphones. This is definitely bad news for Qualcomm and a sign of relief for rest of the industry. What doesn't change with this ruling is how much Qualcomm charges for those ...

Samsung, as expected, has finally showcased its foldable display at its developer's conference in San Francisco. The company has provided the details like screen resolution that are needed for developing a foldable smartphone to developers.
Samsung’s foldable device sports a 7.3-inch display when it’s open to offer a tablet-like viewing experience and when folded, it sports a 4.6-inch display on the outside. The outer 4.6-inch display packs a 21:9 aspect ratio, 840 x 1960 resolution, 420 PPI, and the 7.3-inch display come with 1536 x 2152 pixels and the same pixel density.
Google already announced support for flexible displays, so apps will use the outer display will expand to occupy the 7.3-inch main display when the device is unfolded, and users will also have the option to use three apps in tablet mode.

And to ensure the reliability of the display, we found a unique adhesive that enhances the display's elasticity and keeps its strength even when ifs folded and unfolded over and over again," said Samsung.
However, Samsung isn't revealing the entire spec sheet of the foldable tech. The company didn't showcase the device fully just ...
Google Photos has gained a new update which doesn't bring any major changes to the surface. However, a teardown reveals that there might be a new informative boxes coming that can explain why backups aren't running, and the ability to backup only when charging the phone might be making a return.
Considering at how inappropriate Photos app is in performing backups, Google Photos team which for some reason removed the ability to backup photos during charging looks to have decided to undo the feature. The setting might appear in the "Back up & sync" settings, but it's not actually part of the layout for that page or any other.
However, it is used in code and will only be shown when the right conditions are met. Whatever may be the reasons, the string related to the backup while charging is a good sign that users will be getting at some point. Google Photos often do things in the background depending on the situations and for the sake of letting users know a bit more about this and give some guidance in the process. A couple of more widgets similar to the Backup Complete box are going to be added.
There are two new additions. The ...

Despite facing tough times with the smartphone division, LG isn't giving up anytime soon. We have recently seen the company filing patents for square-shaped camera setup on the rear. This time, the company has filed for multiple design patents in South Korea with KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) for a full-screen smartphone with a camera under the display.
The design patents show two smartphone models; one with a bezel-less design and rounded corners, another design is edged-curved on the right-hand side, making the device thinner on the right side. The company, in both the cases, is using a flexible display. It contains an oval hole where the selfie-camera is present.
The display contains an oval hole for the selfie camera, which is made of a transparent material. This oval hole can be placed at different locations; in the middle, also in the left or right top of the device. However, it isn't clear why the company chose the oval shape, but it is ideal size if it wants to place two selfie-cameras. The patents were published on 24 October and 2nd November 2018.

With Chrome 71 that will be released in December 2018, Chrome will show a warning sign about the insufficient mobile subscription information pages, so that users can make informed decisions when signing up to mobile-based subscription services.
Users will be offered the choice to proceed to the page or go back if they were unaware that they were entering a billing page. Google says that it wants to make sure Chrome users understand when they are going through a billing flow and trust that they’ll be able to make informed decisions while browsing the web. To adequately inform users, it’s important to provide a sufficient level of details within the billing page as outlined by the new mobile billing charges.
If Chrome detects pages that don’t provide sufficient billing information to users, it will display a warning sign to the user on Chrome mobile, Chrome desktop, and Android’s WebView. When Google identifies such pages, it will notify the webmaster through Search Console where there will be an option to let it know about the changes they’ve made to clarify the billing process. Google won't make any changes if websites offer clear information about the billing process.
