Microsoft launcher for Android gets a new update which brings Android 9.0 Pei's Digital Wellbeing like feature which it is calling 'Digital Health.' This allows you to track which apps you use, how long you use them, and even how often you unlock your phone.
Those are the core features of Android's Digital Wellbeing wrapped up inside the Microsoft Launcher. The Digital Health feature is present on the far left home screen panel. It needs usage access in the system settings before it can track data, though. However, it doesn't have the advanced features of Android Digital Wellbeing like app timers or winddown mode. The Microsoft Launcher 5.1 beta is available in the Play Store if you have signed up for the beta, if not you can download the APK and side-load it.

Xiaomi just launched the Redmi Note 6 Pro, successor of the Redmi Note Note 5 Pro in India, as it had promised. The major change is the 6.28-inch Full HD+ screen with a notch, 19:9 aspect ratio and dual front cameras, in addition to dual rear cameras, and the primary 12-megapixel camera now has f/1.9 aperture and 1.4μm pixel size for better low-light images. Both these have AI features including AI portrait and AI scene recognition. The rear camera can recognize scenes in 32 categories, including 5 which are India specific, and the front camera can detect 12 categories.
There is also new adjustable bokeh, studio lighting with 6 effects that use AI semantic segmentation and also comes with light trails that comes with 6 dynamic bokeh effects. It has a 20-megapixel front camera with 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology, 2-megapixel secondary camera for portrait shots and has AI face unlock. Other specifications are almost same as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, including Snapdragon 636 with up to 6GB of RAM, Dual 4G VoLTE, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 4000mAh battery. However this comes with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, even though it comes bundled with 5V/2A charger.

Google Duo is getting a new update bringing the version number to V44, however, it doesn't bring much to the table on the covers, but underneath there are few subtle inclusions. The team behind Duo is said to be working on a new Low Light mode to enhance the video-calling experience in underlit conditions.
The Low Light mode will be accessible with a button, which will be shown right on the call screen along with the buttons for muting and hanging up on a call. While how Google aims to implement low-light isn't entirely clear, but it should improve the exposure level of the overall image, but this will certainly help.
In the Duo v43 teardown, elements of a new Data Saving mode began to emerge. As the name suggests, the feature would scale down the video resolution for everybody on the call for the sake of conserving data. This will be useful for anybody on a cellular or metered Wi-Fi connection. In this latest update, some new text adds further details about the feature.

After specifications of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 smartphone surfaced last week, ASUS has confirmed that it will introduce the phone at an event in Indonesia. An image of the phone has surfaced in Google Play console confirming the notch. Even a live image of the phone has surfaced.

After being introduced at the I/O 2018, Google's Duplex is finally making its way to Pixel phones. Using Google Duplex, Assistant can now book appointments, make reservations and more. These actions usually require user physical action to pick up the phone and call the business to get things done, but Google Assistant will now take the job of going through all this behind the screen for you. All you have to do is just provide the date and time, and your Assistant will call the business to coordinate for you.
However, it is only available in select cities which refers to the previously announced pilot metros of New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, and San Francisco. If you’re not in the “trusted tester” group, you’ll likely get an error from Assistant saying “Sorry, I can’t call to make reservations for you yet, but here’s their phone number: [10 digits].”
To be clear, it’s not quite the Duplex experience Google demoed at its I/O 2018 developers conference in May, meaning Google Assistant isn’t booking haircut appointments just yet, and it can only place calls in English. But importantly, it’s no longer limited to businesses with which Google has explicitly partnered.

After teasers, OPPO today confirmed that it will launch the R17 Pro smartphone in India on December 4th, and will start taking pre-orders from December 1st. OnePlus has rolled out OxygenOS 9.0.6 update for the OnePlus 6T that brings several improvements, including improved in-display fingerprint unlocking, standby power consumption optimization and improvements to image processing in camera and the camera version has been updated to 2. 10.11, same version as OnePlus 6 open beta 7, so images should be better.

Huawei's Honor brand today confirmed that it will launch the Honor 8C, successor of the Honor 7C will launch in India on November 29th, exclusively on Amazon.in. It was introduced in China last month and packs a 6.26-inch HD+ 19:9 aspect ratio display with a notch, Snapdragon 632 SoC with up to 4GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash along with a secondary 2-megapixel camera for capturing depth information in portrait shots, AI scene recognition to recognize over 500 scenarios in 22 categories and an 8-megapixel camera on the front with AI beautify features.
It has 3D nano-level texture design, combining the gradient color and glare, offering a unique light and shadow circulation effect, features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It has Dual 4G VoLTE support, dedicated Dual SIM and microSD slots, and packs a 4000mAh battery that promises up to two days of battery life.

Apple is said to be planning to discount the price of the iPhone XR model in Japan by offering subsidies to Japanese carriers, according to a new report. The price discount of the iPhone XR which costs $749 could come as early as next week. This is very rare for Apple to slash the price of a model within a month off the release.
This report comes in the wake of the earlier report which said that Apple canceled the additional production of the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max models due to lower-than-expected demand. Part of the problem for Apple is that the iPhone 8 is apparently still hugely popular in Japan because of its affordability. Given that it's cheaper than the XR and was still available when Apple launched the XS and XS Max, makes up for additional damage.
Furthermore, sources also suggest that Apple suppliers have also resumed making the iPhone X which Apple no longer sells at its own stores. The strategy also allows Apple to benefit from lower-cost components and depreciated production line machinery. Reports about HTC putting an end to their smartphone market has been in the news for quite some time. However, the company has yet again dismissed recent speculation and reports that U12+ being the last of its model.
HTC has confirmed that it will continue strengthening its smartphone business with new models to be released later this year and in early 2019. HTC said it will not give up its handset business as it believes that the handset has become indispensable to human life and that the related key VR technology will play a key role for the future development of mobile devices.
In addition to continuing optimizing its VR platform and enriching its VR/AR content, the company also is determined to integrate related technologies including AI, the blockchain, and 5G to roll out new product lines for the 5G era. HTC revealed that it plans to launch a new variant of the HTC U12 Life with 6GB RAM/128GB storage by the end of this year and also to release multiple models of consumer and enterprise devices at year-end 2018 and in early 2019.

Back in October, LG too joined the foldable smartphone race when CEO Hwang Jeong-hwan confirmed the same. There were also rumors that LG would showcase the phone at CES 2019. However, there is still much unknown about this LG foldable smartphone, including the name.
A recent trademark application gives us new insights into the model names that LG has in its mind. LG Electronics applied for three brand name registrations at the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) on 21st November 2018. According to trademark, the company looks to be considering Flex, Foldi, and Duplex. All three trademark applications are categorized as Class 9, which includes 'smartphones'.
It is also unknown whether LG is working on multiple devices with foldable display and it is possible that the company will not use all three names (directly) at all. In the past year, we have come across various patents from LG for foldable smartphones, with different designs, so we're not sure which would make it to the final version. The company also filed a patent for a foldable LG smartphone with a double display, possibly the term 'Duplex' is meant for this. Duplex stands for double.

YouTube has announced that it is planning on introducing two back-to-back skippable ads which it is calling “Ad-pods.” This will let you watch a longer video without interruptions. Currently, YouTube shows an ad at the start and while you're in the middle of watching a video.
Instead of two separate ads, YouTube will show two back-to-back ads before the video starts, to provide a distraction-free video watching experience. YouTube’s paid ad-free service, YouTube Premium, is only available in select countries. YouTube says that in its recent experience research in addition to factors such as the length of ads, viewers are quite sensitive to the frequency of ad breaks, especially during longer viewing sessions.
To respond to this, the company will soon begin testing ad pods–two ads stacked back to back, where viewers have the option to skip directly to the content if it’s not the right ad for them. This new experience will launch on the desktop this year and will be followed by mobile and TV screens.

Apart from Samsung, LG, Huawei is also working on foldable smartphone whose name is still in the hiding. However, much like LG, Huawei to has trademarked smartphone names; Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi, and Mate Fold on 21st November 2018 at the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).
The application has been included directly by the WIPO in the Global Brand Database and the registration was done by an intermediary in Munich, Germany which is the same intermediary who last week also recorded a series of Honor smartphone models. The Huawei model names happen to be registered on the exact same day and from the same city as LG.
The Huawei Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi and Mate Fold are all four categorized as 'Class 9', including smartphones. However, at this moment it remains pure speculation whether the first folding phone from the Chinese manufacturer will be named Huawei Mate Flex, Mate Flexi or Mate Fold.
Either way, the Huawei foldable smartphone will be placed within the high-end Mate series. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphone in India yesterday, starting at Rs. 13,999 . As a limited period offer, the company sold the phone starting at Rs. 12,999 on Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores starting at 12 noon and also offered Rs. 500 discount for HDFC Bank credit/debit card users. Rumors in the past pointed out that the Samsung's Galaxy A series for 2019 could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung was previously expected to adopt this technology for its 2019 flagship smartphones only. However, given the company's new approach to pickup mid-range segment, the company has shifted its focus.
According to a new report, Samsung has reportedly locked down the supplier for these sensors. Galaxy A series to feature optical display-based fingerprint sensors and China’s Aegis Technology will reportedly be supplying the in-display fingerprint sensor for the Galaxy A (2019) series. These sensors will be optical sensors, though, not as advanced as the Qualcomm's ultrasonic sensor that will ship with the Galaxy S10.
Optical sensors work by lighting up the screen and having the light reflect off the finger. This will allow the sensor to capture the image and use the algorithm to detect the pattern which is unique for every fingerprint. Chinese manufacturers that already have devices with display-based fingerprint sensors on the market largely use these optical sensors.
Ultrasonic sensors are more accurate as they use ultrasound to create a 3D image of the fingerprint. The highly detailed 3D reproduction of the fingerprint allows for improved security as well. ...
A new Lenovo smartphone with model number L78071 has been certified by TENAA. This shows a 6.3-inch waterdrop notch display, metal finsh on the back and the sides, triple rear cameras with the third camera present separately, similar to Huawei P20 Pro.
The certification site also reveals its dimensions - 156.7 × 74.5 × 7.8mmand a 3210mAh battery, which is less compared to its latest Z5 Pro and S5 Pro smartphones that were inrtoduced recently. We don't have any other details about the phone, but the certififcation site TENAA should reveal complete specifications of the phone in coming days.
This could be a top-end smartphone. Even though there are are rumors that it could be Snapdragon 8150-powered 5G phone that was confirmed by Lenovo’s VP Chang Cheng earlier this year, it is highly unlikely the smartphone get certifed this soon, since the SoC is scheduled to go into production early 2019.
