At the event, Xiaomi and Google promised regular security patch updates every month along with Android Oreo in 2017 itself for Mi A1. It also mentioned that it is fully committed to supporting Hangouts users in the meantime. The company said that it is leaning the mistakes it made with Allo and put it to use on Messages app to make it even better. This year, Google introduced iPad and Android tablets, Chromebook, and smart display support for Duo video calling. It also launched the ability to leave a video message and said that it will continue to bring more quality improvements based on machine learning that make video calls with Duo simple and reliable. Google, in a blog post, said: We’re excited by the progress we’ve made with our communications experience over the past few years, and ready to take what we’ve learned from Allo and put it to work to make Messages even better. Xiaomi President Lin Bin has posted an image of a Xiaomi phone with 48-megapixel camera on weibo. This shows a large sensor along with dual LED flash. It also shows a new design and possibly a pop-up front camera offering an all-screen display like the Vivo NEX. He also shared that the phone will be released in January 2019. The smartphone could use the Sony IMX586 which was introduced as the world-first 48MP smartphone camera sensor with ultra-compact pixel size of 0.8 μm. It already started shipping to OEMs from September 2018, so Xiaomi would have already started testing it on its smartphone. Currently only the Snapdragon 675 11nm Mobile Platform supports up to 48-megapixel camera. Xiaomi at the 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong in October confirmed that the company will launch Snapdragon 675-powered smartphone next year. Twitter for Android seems to be getting new features including the ability to show which client Tweets originated from, video playback controls including a skip forward or rewind a few seconds with a tap on the right or left side of the screen. However, these new features are currently available only for few users and are not widely available.  These features might still be in testing or staged rollouts in batches, so users might have to wait for a while before the company rolls out to everyone. The new video controls are the more useful feature. A quick tap on the left or right of the screen will skip back or forward, by five seconds. The YouTube app behaves similarly, although, with double-taps, it increments to 10 seconds. For now, there's no way to tell which version of the app is having these features, so it is impossible to tell when all these would make way into the final version of the app. The only to be sure is to keep the app updated. In its latest attempt to improve Translate, Google aims to curb gender bias by providing feminine and masculine translations for some gender-neutral words on the Google Translate website. Google Translate learns from hundreds of millions of already-translated examples from the web. Historically, it has provided only one translation for a query, even if the translation could have either a feminine or masculine form. However, you will now get both a feminine and masculine translation for a single word—like “surgeon”—when translating from English into French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish. You’ll also get both translations when translating phrases and sentences from Turkish to English. In the future, Google plans to extend gender-specific translations to more languages, launch on other Translate platforms like iOS and Android apps, and address gender bias in features like query auto-complete. Google also mentioned that it is thinking on how to address non-binary gender in translations. Source

Back in 2017, Google introduced Google Play Install Referrer API which allows ad attribution providers, publishers, and advertisers to determine which referrer was responsible for sending the user to Google Play for a given app install. Owing to the reports of questionable activity, Google began its own independent investigation on apps on Google Play that are accused of conducting app install attribution abuse by falsely claiming credit for newly installed apps to collect the download bounty from that app’s developer. Google now has an update on the investigation and has removed two apps; CM File Manager, Kika Keyboard from the Play Store because it discovered evidence of app install attribution abuse. It also discovered evidence of app install attribution abuse in 3 ad network SDKs. I also asked the impacted developers to remove those SDKs from their apps. Google Ads SDKs were not utilized for any of the abusive behaviors mentioned above. Google's investigation is ongoing and additional reviews of other third-party SDKs are still underway and assured that it will take action if it finds any evidence of additional policy violations. Google is pushing out a new update to the Message app with nothing noteworthy on the surface. But it brings changes to the message attachments. The update also hints details about the upcoming spam protection and support for new file types in the share dialog.  It brings a subtle change in the conversation view when you are interacting with a file attachment. On v3.8, long-press and selecting attachment would show share button, but as of V3.9, the button is now replaced with a classic floppy disc icon, which when tapped will immediately save the file to the Downloads folder. The share button is still retained, though. Now moving to the part that's lying underneath, for now, Google has been working on Spam protection for a while and we have seen references to the same in the past, hinting that it should be arriving soon. A new text and settings layouts have been added with this update that will be used for advertising and managing the feature when it goes live. It is just a toggle to enable or disable spam protection. It is unclear if Google would have access to the context of the message to detect spam or not. So, we need ...
