Sony Xperia Z3 Compact appears at the FCC

Yesterday we saw more photos of the Sony Xperia Z3 compact that put more focus on camera and the body of the phone. Today, the phone has paid a visit to the FCC and is listed under the IDs PM-0810 and PM-0812. The PM-0810 comes with support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 13, and 17, which suggests the device is targeted for international markets while the second variant comes with support for LTE Band 5 and 7, which should launch on US carriers. Both models have been confirmed in the FCC filing to arrive with GSM/WCDMA/LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, ANT+ and NFC support. Unfortunately, the FCC did not list any specifications or internal hardware of the Xperia Z3 Compact. The latest image leak showed that the the phone will have a 1/2.3-inch 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor along with flash. It will likely sport a 4.5-inch display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels,  a quad-core Snapdragon SoC with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage on board, with a microSD card support for expansion. Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy S5 Mini Duos (SM-G800H) with dual SIM support in India soon. The smartphone has been listed on the official Samsung India website. It was announced last month and packs a 4.5-inch (720 x 1280 pixels) Super AMOLED display, powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with new Touchwiz UI. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, 1080p video recording and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. It has IP67 ratings for dust and water resistance, Finger Scanner and Heart rate sensor, similar to Galaxy S5. It has 3G connectivity, 1.5 GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage with expansion slot and a 2100 mAh battery. ‘Ladies First’ contest from OnePlus sparks controversy; Thread taken down

OnePlus have always maintained their unique marketing strategy, which has often landed them in controversy. The latest ordeal that the company got into has a nice ring to it - Ladies First. According to the contest, female users of the forums were asked to upload pictures of themselves. Uploaders of 50 pictures with the highest number of likes were to get an invite, or a chance to buy the OnePlus One, the company's only device. Not only that, T shirts and a OnePlus One were up for grabs as well. However, the contest sparked reaction from all around the world, as you would expect. Samsung’s Virtual Reality Headset image surfaces

It looks like Samsung's Virtual Reality headset is gearing up for its launch. Images of the VR headset has been revealed by The Verge which reports the headset is known as “Project Moonlight.” Samsung is set to unveil this headset, alongside the Galaxy Note 4, at its Unpacked event in Berlin next month. The report states that the VR headset would turn a smartphone display into a head-mounted screen for virtual reality and other immersive video-based experiences. It has a detachable lid that holds the phone in place in front of your eyes. We can see a dial on top of the device which may loosen and tighten hardware within the headset. Moreover, the image also shows Samsung's gaming controller that resembles to a Playstation controller. The report further states that it unclear if the photo shows a prototype or a final version of the product. Other leaks have suggested that Project Moonlight may be called the “Samsung Gear VR” and that it could include a touchpad for navigating its user interface. Last month screenshots of the Gear VR Manager app that will control the headset were leaked. Sony preparing low end 6.1 inch phablet, shows up in GFX benchmark

Sony is working on an entry level smartphone that will sport a 6.1 inch screen. The phablet has been spotted at the GFX benchmark under the model number D2203. The GFX benchmark suggests that the handset will be a 6.1-inch FWVGA (480 x 854)  and be powered by 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) chipset and Adreno 305 graphics. Other specs include 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage , 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. It is expected that the phone will likely run on Android 4.4.2. The Sony D2203 will also have Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and Wi-Fi. There is no mention of the battery or a microSD slot. Also, it will not be a dual sim phone and have a single sim instead. This is likely the first time Sony is going for a budget phablet and it is not clear if it is up for a global launch or specific to Asian markets. via: Xperiablog

HTC Zoe to be available for all Android devices this week

HTC will soon make Zoe its a video clip-making application available to Android devices. Zoe will be the first HTC app to join other Android Devices and the beta version of its Zoe camera app will launch later this week. The company  released its popular apps like BlinkFeed and Zoe in the Google Play Store, but only exclusive to its flagship smartphones. For those unfamiliar, Zoe is HTC’s custom built video app that captures a short burst of video and images at the same time.  This images and videos can later be compiled into a more lengthy 30 second video, complete with a soundtrack, transitions and themes. It  was first released alongside HTC One M7. It looks like HTC wants Zoe to become a hub for viewing and sharing content. The news was first revealed by Recode and quickly confirmed by Drew Bamford, who is leading the Creative Labs. According to reports, HTC Creative Labs is already working on rolling out another HTC application to other Android smartphones. via: Recode

Motorola Shamu rumored to be Nexus 6 spotted at GFX Benchmark

There were reports last month stating that Google and Motorola are working on a large screen Nexus device that is code named Shamu. Today, the Motorola Shamu has made an appearance at GFX benchmark. The device will sport a  1080p HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset. Earlier rumors had stated that the phone will have 5.9 inch screen. The GFX Benchmark tests hints at the fact that the upcoming Nexus smartphone should come with internal hardware that is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Sony Xperia Z2, the OnePlus One, and the HTC One M8. Various reports are suggesting that Nexus 6 will be officially introduced late-October or early-November, when Android L is expected to be released for the public. Unfortunately, the leak does not mention any specs. HTC Butterfly 2 new press shots leaked, reveals Waterproof body

HTC unveiled the J Butterfly (HTL23), the company's latest smartphone with waterproof body few weeks back in Japan. Now the HTC Butterfly 2 for Asia Pacific markets has been leaked by @Upleaks. This was first leaked by @evleaks back in May and looks similar to the new J Butterfly smartphone. It comes with IP57 ratings for dust and water resistance. The tagline in the poster reads "Make a splash in style" to show it's a waterproof smartphone. It is expected to come with similar specifications as the new J Butterfly, including a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Sense UI, 13-megapixel rear camera with 2-megapixel Duo Camera arrangement to the depth information and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has BoomSound speakers, JBL LiveStage audio support and would come with support for HTC DoubleDip Case. It would come in Red, White and Blue colors, similar to the J Butterfly (HTL23) smartphone. According to earlier rumors, the HTC Butterfly 2 is expected to be unveiled in Japan on August 19th. HP VoiceTab 6 Plus appears in GFX benchmark

HP is apparently working on VoiceTab 6 Plus which has recently been spotted at GFX benchmark. The tablet will sport a 6 inch screen with 720p display and will be powered by Snapdragon 400 chipset with four Cortex A7 cores. The benchmark reveals that it will have 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage along with the possibility of a microSD card slot. The rear camera on the tablet is 7MP that records 1080p video while front camera stands at 1.8 MP (1600 x 1200). There is quiet a boost on the camera as it has been updated from 5MP in the Slate 6 Voice Tab. Finally, HP Slate 6 VoiceTab Plus will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat as compared to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean of the Slate 6 VoiceTab. KitKat 4.4 runs on over 20% of Android devices, Jelly Bean continues to shrink

Google has revealed Android distribution numbers for the month of August that covers a period of time of 7 days, ending on August 12. The data shows the most recent version of Android KitKat reach an all-time usage high at 20.9 percent, up from 17.9 percent this time last month thereby recording a 3 percent growth. Jelly Bean 4.1-4.3 has continued its decline to 54.2 percent from 56.5 percent last month. While Ice Cream Sandwich has fallen from 11.4 percent to 10.6 percent. Android 2.3 Gingerbread actually grew from 13.5 percent in July to 13.6 percent in August, while Android 2.2 Froyo held steady at 0.7 percent. The Android distribution numbers do not include information for devices running a version of the operating system lower than 2.2, as they do not support the latest Google Play Store app. Android KitKat is gradually increasing its market share as it stood at mere 5.3 percent in April, 8.5 percent in May and 13.6 percent in June. via:Android Distribution

Asus Padfone Infinity and Fonepad Note 6 get Android 4.4 KitKat update

Asus has released the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Padfone Infinity (A80) and the Fonepad Note 6 (ME560CG). It rolled out the Kitkat update for the Padfone 2 last month. The KitKat update also brings Asus ZenUI with a new user interface for these devices. The ZenUi brings clean layout, flat icons, new color themes, animations, new ringtone and notification tones. After the update, some apps would be removed or renamed, says Asus. Asus did not list any major change in the changelog for the Padfone Infinity, but 15 apps would be removed after the upgrade. First batch of $13 Xiaomi Mi Bands to go on sale 18th August in China

Xiaomi's ever-so-affordable Mi Band is finally going to go on sale, albeit only in its home country of China. The $13 piece of wearable tech will go on sale in China on 18th of August, alongside another affordable gadget - the Xiaomi Router. While the Mi Band will sell for 79 CNY ($13), the Mi Router will be available for 129 CNY or $129 for residents of China. The Mi Band was announced alongside the latest Xiaomi flagship, the Mi 4 on July 22nd. Incidentally, that's when the Mi 3 first went on sale in India as well. Xiaomi's Hugo Barra did give an India timeline for other Xiaomi products, but it isn't yet clear when the Mi Band would be available in the country. Given that an announcement for Redmi products is already due, we could be in for a surprise. Can't say about the Mi Router, but the Mi Band for certain is going to be a hit in markets outside of China; you can't, after all, go wrong with a $13 wearable! Source | Via

OnePlus One vs Oppo Find 7 Photo Gallery

Oppo unveiled its flagship Find 7 and Find 7a smartphones back in March. Then came the OnePlus One in April after huge expectations. The design of the OnePlus One is similar to the Oppo Find 7. Check out the photo gallery of these smartphones to find out how similar these look. Even though the design is similar between these two smartphones, there are some visual changes. Both have 5.5-inch display, but the Find 7 has Quad HD screen. OnePlus has a 1080p screen, similar to the Find 7a. The earpiece design, placement of the camera and the sensors are different in these phones. Size of bezels on the sides seem similar in both. Both have capacitive touch buttons below the screen. There is a Skyline Notification on the chin on the Find 7 that notifies with blue oscillating light. This is not present on the OnePlus One, but you have a chin in white color.   One plus have two chrome rim running on the sides, but the Find 7 has only one thick rim around the bezel. Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 spotted with 6 inch display

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 has been spotted in the database of China's Telecommunications Equipment Certification Center with new specifications.  Previous reports had stated that the phone will have 5.9 inch screen with HD display. However, the latest leak is revealing that the Galaxy Mega 2 will boast a 5.98 (6)inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The phone which is dubbed under the model number SM-G7508Q measures 163.6 x 84.9 x 8.6mm. It boasts of a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage and microSD expansion slot. It will have a 13-megapixel rear camera with flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone will run on Android KitKat 4.4. The Galaxy Mega 2 had already visited the FCC in July with almost similar specs. Unfortunately, there are no other details  about price and availability of the phone.
