Microsoft has released Hummingbird, an AI-powered News app for Android which currently is only available in the USA.  The app offers login in through Microsoft or LinkedIn accounts, but you can go ahead by skipping. The main home screen offers various topics for you to chose from. However, unlike Google News, you can't pin down your choices to granular options like a specific sports team or player, or company, or celebrity. Instead, you get general categories like NBA, celebrities, road trips, and cooking. Once the choices are made, the feed gets updated with the articles that you're probably interested in. It also enables you to save, share, dislike articles, or simply just block all news from that particular source. Tapping an article opens it in the original site it was published in, but keeps Hummingbird's title bar where you can switch into a reading mode with control over font, background color, and text size as well as copy the URL. There's also a"Search" tab that acts more like a shortcut to general topics, and "Me" takes you to view your topics, saved articles, and history. Other settings include clear all your data and to disable automatic video and GIF playback. Since it is powered ...

Apple iPhone XR demand lower than expected, shipment estimations slashed: Kuo

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple iPhone XR demand has been lower than expected. Kuo has slashed his overall iPhone shipment forecast by 20% for the first quarter of 2019. However, Kuo now expects Apple to move 38-42 million iPhones in the quarter, down from an original estimate of 47-52 million.  Apple reported sales of 52.2 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2018, which corresponds with the Q2 of Apple's fiscal year. This means that 38 million shipments in the first quarter of 2019 would be a significant year-over-year decline. As for the iPhone XR in particular, Kuo has revised his shipment estimate to 15-20 million for the Q1 2019, down from 20-25 million. Kuo estimates annual iPhone shipments will fall between 205 million and 210 million in 2018 and based on that, forecasts that annual iPhone shipments in 2019 will decline up to 10% to a range of 188 million to 194 million. This would fall below Wall Street's consensus estimate of around 212 million units in 2019. Apple will no longer be disclosing unit sales in its quarterly earnings reports going forward, so investors will have to look towards iPhone revenue to determine how well the handset is selling. If sales are ...

Apple today has released the iOS 12.1.2 update two weeks after pushing out the 12.1.1 update and one week after Apple seeded the first iOS 12.1.2 beta to developers. Unlike the previous update, the iOS 12.1.2 is only available to iPhones and not iPads.  The Apple release notes state that the iOS 12.1.2 will bring bug fixes to the eSIM activation and a cellular connectivity issue in Turkey. Apple said it would release a software update for iPhone users in China to address "the minor functionality of the two patents at issue." As for the eSIM functionality, it was first introduced in the iOS 12.1 update and expanded with iOS 12.1.1. In the U.S., T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T are all now supporting the eSIM features.
