Samsung unveiled the most expected Galaxy S5 smartphone at the MWC 2014 few hours back. The Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor clocked at 2.45 GHz. A new infographic, comparing all the Galaxy S series devices on the Samsung blog reveals that the Galaxy S5 would also come in a Octa-Core variant clocked at 2.1GHz. This might be the Exynos Infinity processor that is expected to be unveiled during the MWC 2014 later this week.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with new Samsung UI on top. It also has Finger scanner, Heart rate sensor and more unique features. The Galaxy S5 also has LTE Category 4 support.
The chart compares the Korean variants of the Galaxy S Series devices, so it might launch in Korea first. The chart doesn't mention the model number for the Korean variant of the S5. BlackBerry has just announced the BlackBerry Z3, the company's latest affordable full-touch smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This is the first smartphone made by Foxconn, after their strategic partnership back in December. It has a 5-inch display, powered by a dual-core processor and runs on the latest BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1.
You have all the BlackBerry 10 features such as BlackBerry Hub, BBM and lots more. It also has FM Radio. We still don't have the complete specifications of the smartphone. Amongst the high spec devices launched by Sony, the M2 emerged as the device aimed at the mid range segment. The phone that has a design language decidedly similar to the flagship Z2. The front of the phone has a large 4.8 inch display that has a resolution of 540x960 pixels. First impressions with the hardware definitely left a positive impression as we quite liked the solid construction. The device is predominantly made of glossy plastic which is quite fingerprint prone.

In a courageous and cunning move, Nokia launched its new series of Android devices under the X moniker, a ploy to capture the entry level Smartphone segment, which they had initially planned to capture with the Asha platform. Three devices at different price points were launched, with the XL being launched at a higher 109 EUR price point. Sporting hardware design from the Asha phones and software design from Lumia, Nokia wants to create familiarity to Windows Phone in the low end and hopes to catch aspiring buyers and make them move to their hopefully more profitable platform. But the pricing is treacherously close to their low end Lumias, which might just end up cannibalizing the sales of the latter, even when providing a choice with similar hardware. The XL, a 5 inch Android phone with almost the same or better specifications than the Lumia 520, poses a threat, or may be is it opportunity for Nokia and Microsoft?

BlackBerry has also announced the BlackBerry Q20, the company's latest BlackBerry 10 smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard. It has hardware keys for Menu, Back, Send and End and a Trackpad, similar to the BlackBerry Q10. It has a 3.5-inch touch screen display, that is the largest display ever on a QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone.

BlackBerry Z10 had already received a price cut in India last year, few months after it was launched at a price tag of Rs. 43,490. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its foray into the Indian market, BlackBerry has cut the price of the BlackBerry Z10 to Rs. 17,990 for a limited period. Last year the company announced EMI schemes for the Z10 and up to Rs. 11000 discount on the Z10 in exchange for old phones.

Nokia announced its X Series smartphones, the Nokia X, X+ and XL running on Android. These phones are based on Android AOSP with Nokia's custom platform on top. Yesterday, SwiftKey announced that the Swifkey keyboard would be available for the Nokia X series of smartphones for free. Today, Truecaller has announced that the Truecaller Caller ID app would be available for Nokia X smartphones from the Nokia Store.
The Truecaller app for Android got updated recently with new features in the version 4.0 update. Truecaller app for Nokia X would also include these features. This include, features, like Caller ID, call blocking, personal profiles, and number lookup. Truecaller partnered with Twitter India recently so that Truecaller users can see if a number is connected with a Twitter account, and have the ability to tweet or follow a person directly through the Truecaller app.
Even though the Nokia X Series phones lack Google Play Store and Google Apps, several app developers have partnered with Nokia to launch their Android apps in the Nokia Store.
The Truecaller app for the Nokia X series smartphones would be available for download for free from the Nokia Store.

At MWC 2014, both Microsoft and Nokia were present. Microsoft gave a few updates regarding their progress on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 while Nokia announced a series of Android running budget smartphones. At the Pepcom event, Microsoft and Nokia had a booth where they had showcased the Nokia Lumia Icon which is a 5inch version of the company's latest flagship - Nokia Lumia 1520.

Just ahead of the MWC 2014, Acer announced a couple of Android smartphones and it is showcasing them at the MWC 2014 show floor. Among the smartphones that it announced, the Acer Liquid E3 is one and it fits quite well in the range of mid-range Android smartphones quite well. It is powered by the very familiar MediaTek processor and comes with the same hardware specs that most mid-range phones have along with a few tricks up its sleeve.

Here at the Mobile World Congress we've seen a wide range of products being introduced by all major brands. Indeed Lenovo was no exception as it brought out its range of mid range products with a focus on build quality and hitting the right price point in exchange for super charged internals. This is the Lenovo S860 and here are our first impressions of the device.

The Lenovo S860 is part of the company's range of phablets and so packs a large 5.3 inch display. The IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x720 is bright and vibrant with decent viewing angles. We found the front of the phone to be quite reflective so that's might get in the way of sunlight readability. Above and below the display are dual front facing speakers.

Given the extremely competent pricing of the Moto G, we're quite excited to see how Motorola plans to price the Moto X. The Moto X recently got a price cut to $399 which is a 100 USD lower than the erstwhile $499 price point. Motorola also has a very cool Moto Maker service that allows buyers to customize their devices however there is no word so far if this would be launched in India.

Based on the just announced Exynos 5422 chipset, it will have four Cortex A15 cores clocked at 2.1Ghz and four small low power state Cortex A7 cores clocked at up to 1.5Ghz. There's 2GB of RAM on both devices. There is 16GB of built-in storage along with a microSD card slot supporting upto 128GB cards.

Lenovo introduced a range of products here at the Mobile World Congress. Some interesting, some decidedly less so. The Lenovo S850 falls in the first category because of its interesting mix of hardware design and generally decent performance. We spent some time with the handset and here's what we thought about it.

The front of the phone has a large 5 inch IPS panel with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. With decent viewing angles and vibrant colors we were fairly impressed by the display on offer here. That said, the all glass construction of the phone is extremely reflective which makes sunlight readability particularly hard.
Moving to the right side of the phone, you spot the volume rocker and power key. The sides of the phone are made of aluminum and are finished in a very unique material that makes it a bit more grippy. As we mentioned earlier, both the front and back of the phones is made of glass.
The left side of the phone has the slot for the SIM card slots. The phone is of the dual SIM variety. Above it is the grill for the speaker. Unfortunately the phone does not have a microSD card slot.

It has a 4.5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support and 2G (EDGE) connectivity.

The GSM Association has announced the winners for the 19th annual Global Mobile Awards at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Last year the Galaxy S3 bagged the award, this year HTC One was awarded the best smartphone of the year, even though it had tough contenders such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2. Nokia bagged two awards, the Lumia 520 bagged the award for the best low-cost smartphone of the year, competing with phones like Sony Xperia E and Samsung Galaxy Young. Nokia 105 won for the best entry-level or feature phone of the year.
