Over years, Microsoft has been powering the entertainment systems in various cars from manufacturers like Ford, Kia, BMW, Fiat and Nissan. They have used their own UI so far and now, as a goal of unifying the Windows experience across platforms, Microsoft is bringing the "Metro" look to the car dashboard. Microsoft took a leaf out of Apple's book and has come with up a solution that seems very similar to Apple's CarPlay. Microsoft's concept is currently in the test phase and it involves projecting the smartphone screen to your car dashboard. For connectivity, Microsoft is currently using MirrorLink which is currently used in Nokia's Symbian phones and Sony Xperia Z smartphone. The concept is still in the early stages and that was evident when the software crashed during demonstration. There are no details regarding when this software will ship. Source

The regulatory process involves a complete review of Nokia's patent licensing practices and the Finnish company remains compliant with FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non Discriminatory terms) undertakings related to essential patents.
