In a recent AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit, OnePlus said that it would introduce pre-order system in October. Even though OnePlus has ramped up the production, getting an invite to order the phone is one of the main concerns. Now the company's Director Carl Pei has confirmed on the official OnePlus blog that it would introduce pre-orders system late October. The new pre-order system that would be introduced next next month would let you place an order for the OnePlus One during a limited time window, and the item in stock would ship immediately, if it's not in stock you will get an approximate shipping time before you pay. There’s a time limit, but no limit on the amount of orders that can be made, says OnePlus. More the pre-orders, longer the shipping estimation date. You can cancel the order any time, so that you can skip the pre-order queue and have your order shipped immediately if you get hold of an invite during the waiting time for the device to get shipped. So it is clear that the invite system is not going away. OnePlus would reveal more details a week before the pre-orders start in late October. OnePlus One ...

One of the most (impending) distinguishing features of the OnePlus One was the swappable rear covers. OnePlus called these 'StyeSwap' covers, and showed off some of those during the launch in April. OnePlus also announced that their only phone, the One, was being sold at near-cost prices and that profits would be made on accessories that would later be introduced. Among various other styles, OnePlus One StyleSwap covers were supposed to be made available in bamboo -- made out of actual bamboo. It was also announced that these covers would cost $49. However, owing to production and QC issues, OnePlus is now having to scrap their plans for the StyleSwap covers. In a recent forum post, it was mentioned that even though a lot of Bamboo StyleSwap covers had been produced, only a few of those passed OnePlus' quality checks which seems to have changed their minds. READ: OnePlus One review The initial lot of Bamboo covers that did pass the quality check will be made available to users. However, there's no clarity on when and how these will sell; we don't even know yet if they'll go for the previously mentioned $49. Source

Samsung isn't particularly known for being among the timeliest update providers, but it looks like the Korea-based maker is keen on improving its image in that regard. According to reports, Samsung will be pushing Android L updates to two of its biggest guns in the market as of now -- the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4. Unlike previous updates, say from Android Jelly Bean to KitKat, the update to Android L (what it will be called is yet to be known) will be far more pronounced thanks to the hardware progress we've seen during the development phase. Most importantly, Android L will bring support for native 64-bit computing which is expected to improve user experience by a fair margin. As SamMobile reports, Google is yet to publicly announce a definitive time-frame that it's going to adopt for the Android L roll-out for its Nexus devices. A lot will depend on that, since the Nexus lineup is usually the first to flaunt any Android update, major or minor. All in all, it does look like Samsung is willing to up its game on the software front to keep a hold on its now-dwindling user-base. Source
