Android 9.0 Pie brings new gesture navigation that replaces three software nav buttons. This new gesture-based navigation requires you to swipe back and forth between apps and menus. This new navigation method is optional on the Pixel and Pixel 2, but Google has confirmed that it is default on the Pixel 3.
The new gesture-based navigation system cannot be disabled or swapped either. Google on Twitter said that "Pixel 3 introduces a new pattern that will represent navigation on all Android phones going forward, the tweet said. "While change & adapting to new patterns is hard, we believe it's a better navigation pattern & makes app switching a faster experience."
Hi! Pixel 3 introduces a new pattern that will represent navigation on all Android phones going forward. While change & adapting to new patterns is hard, we believe it's a better navigation pattern & makes app switching a faster experience.
— Made by Google (@madebygoogle) October 9, 2018
However, this doesn't come as a surprise especially since it is enabled by default on the new phones with Pie. So, if you were hoping on using the classic nav buttons on your Pixel 3, this might be a bit disappointing.
Alphabet unit Google has challenged the fine imposed by the European Union antitrust regulators in July. The commission has fined Google a record 4.34-billion euro (£3.8 billion) for imposing illegal restrictions on Android device manufacturers and mobile networks to cement its dominant position in general internet search.
Google in a statement said that “We have now filed our appeal of the EC’s Android decision at the General Court of the EU.” The company had previously said it would take the case to Europe’s second highest court in Luxembourg. As for the European Commission, in its July decision said that Google had abused its market dominance since 2011.
It further said that Google imposed conditions that manufacturers have to pre-install the Google Search app and browser app (Chrome) as a condition for licensing Google’s PlayStore. Google said to have made payments to certain manufacturers and mobile network operators on condition that they exclusively use the Google Search app on their devices.
Since it is a complex case, it could take several years before judges rule on it. A final appeal is possible at Europe’s top court, the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Microsoft announced that it joined hands with Open Invention Network (“OIN”) which is a community dedicated to protecting Linux and other open source software programs from patent risk. With this association, Microsoft believes that it will be able to do more than ever to help protect Linux and other important open source workloads from patent assertions.
Microsoft says that collaborative development through the open source process can accelerate innovation. Both the companies will demonstrate a commitment to open source software (OSS) and innovation through collaborative development. With more than 2,650 members, including numerous Fortune 500 enterprises, OIN is the largest patent non-aggression community and represents a core set of community values related to open source licensing, which has become the norm.
OIN’s community practices patent non-aggression in core open source technologies by cross-licensing Linux System patents to one another on a royalty-free basis. Patents owned by Open Invention Network are similarly licensed royalty-free to any organization that agrees not to assert its patents against the Linux System.

The OnePlus 6T has been scheduled to arrive in a couple of weeks time, following up on the OnePlus 6, which was released in May. As the name suggests, the OnePlus 6T is an incremental update over one of the best smartphones of 2018, the OnePlus 6.
Hence what do we get in this 6th generation 'T' edition smartphone? Before talking in-depth, the new upgrades include a water-drop notch, in-display fingerprint scanner, a.k.a. Screen Unlock, Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, bigger battery and of course, several launch offers.
With that being said, the mid-cycle refresh of OnePlus 6 seems to have some jaw-dropping features to justify its existence in this brief amount of time as well. In this article, we have listed out 5 things we can't wait for in the upcoming OnePlus 6T.
Unlike OnePlus 6 with a big notch, the OnePlus 6T is expected to come with a trending water-drop notch in a bid to give more real estate on the display. In OnePlus 6T, the notch is really small and shaped like a water droplet wrapping around the front camera. While the regular notch had an earpiece, front camera and sensors, the functionality of the water drop notch remain foggy at present mainly due to its size.
A few days back OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau confirmed the In-display Fingerprint scanner, a.k.a. Screen Unlock through a forum post on OnePlus Forums. He also added Screen Unlock consolidates a collection of software processes and hardware components, tuned in such a way to work optimally on the OnePlus 6T. Having said that, the Screen Unlock feature will recognise fingerprint with higher accuracy through extended usage. Furthermore, the company has ditched the 3.5mm audio jack as well. As stated by Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, removing the headphone jack has freed up more space, allowing them to put more new technology into the product.
Some rumours and leaks across the Internet so far have been pointing towards the OnePlus 6T equipping a bigger 3700mAh battery for the first time in OnePlus history. Notably, the OnePlus 6T battery is 10% bigger than its predecessor and will be also having OnePlus’ proprietary Dash Charging technology.

OPPO Mobile has introduced OPPO Hyper Boost, its full-scenario, system-level performance boost engine at an event in Shanghai, China yesterday. Developed extensively over the year, this promises improvements to smartphone's power consumption and performance by optimizing system-level resource allocation, says that company.
Hyper Boost works by enabling real-time "two-way dialogs" between applications and system resources. After having recognized the various scenarios and user behaviors from different applications and game programs, Hyper Boost comprehensively optimizes the allocation of resources across the system to specific needs. This helps ensure better utilization of hardware resources, faster response speed of applications and game programs, and smoother operation of the overall system.
Consisting of three parts, Hyper Boost offers comprehensive acceleration for smartphones at three levels: system, game, and application.
System engine: Hyper Boost delivers system-level optimization across the Qualcomm and MediaTek platforms. The system engine provides over 50 solutions for optimizing the utilization of the underlying hardware resources against 20-plus software scenarios and 20-plus software behaviors, ensuring that users have a smooth and stable experience in almost every common scenario. This optimization helps general applications achieve up to 31.91% shorter loading time.
Game engine: One of the smartphone manufacturers to first work with Tencent, Netease and ...
Apple seems to be working on a new technology that could detect nuisance callers using spoofed phone numbers as the company filed for patents named "Detection of spoofed call information." This system could let iPhones perform checks on a call to ascertain if it is genuine, if not warn the user of the nuisance callers or prevent it from disturbing the phone user at all.
There are cases where a call is made, a session initiation protocol (SIP) invite is sent along between phone networks to the user's device. The SIP invite can contain a number of elements, with headers providing data meant to establish the call, such as speech codec information, network equipment identifiers, 3GPP VoLTE protocol information, server identifiers, and other elements.
While the spoofing caller can fill in some SIP invite fields, some are populated or overwritten by network servers as it travels. This automatically added or altered information constitutes a signature for that network, which could be used to compare with other existing call signatures to determine if the call itself is legitimate.
The new Apple's system could also be used to determine if the spoofer is passing the call through a forwarding device, which is connected to a legitimate network ...

Google earlier this week has introduced new hardware, and along with it, the company has introduced new Assistant features that will be coming over the next few weeks. The Google Assistant can now also control many popular media and entertainment devices, and the biggest among them is the ability to detect spam calls and let Assistant do the job for you.
When you get an incoming call from an unknown caller, just tap “Screen call” to let the Google Assistant help out. You'll see a transcript of the caller's responses in real-time. This feature is coming to Pixel 3 this month and to Pixel 1 and 2 in November. This uses the same AI technology as Google Duplex.
The company back in May at the I/O 2018 introduced the Duplex technology which on behalf of the user takes the appointment requests and more. At the Pixel event, Google announced that this feature would live in November. All three generations of Pixels will be getting Duplex booking capabilities, but only in New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area to begin with.
