The Nokia Lumia 525, a newly launched device that we unboxed recently, has been known to be a slightly upgraded variant of the Lumia 520. It carries almost exactly the same spec sheet and hardware except for the RAM, which has been upped to 1 GB for obvious reasons. With an incredibly small change in hardware, one would expect everything else to remain the same. But that is not the case with the 525, because it comes with Lumia Black firmware update out of the box, which brings some algorithm-level changes to the already robust camera interface, the Nokia Camera. So, does this change the 520/5's camera performance in any way? Lets find out from some of our camera samples.

The long rumored and anticipated WiFi only version of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is now official and the mini tablet will soon be available in Sony's home turf of Japan. Priced at a smidgen under $500, you get a 6.4 inch Triluminos Display, Snapdragon 800 processor that make for a very handy device that is almost a tablet, just a bit more portable. The IP58 certification, slim shell further contribute to making it a rather interesting miniature tablet. Motorola Moto G was expected to be launched in India later this month, now Motorola has officially announced that India launch details would be unveiled on February 5th 2014. At the Moto G launch back in November, Motorola announced that the Moto G would be available in India early January 2014, but it didn't happen.
Motorola launched the dual SIM version of the Moto G in Australia, Malaysia and Dubai recently. We already know that Dual SIM Moto G would launch in India this year, but it is not clear if we can expect the Dual SIM or single SIM variant of the Moto G in India.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is part of the two new phablets announced by the Finnish company some time back. Announced alongside the 1520, the device follows the large screen trend and brings a massive 6 inch display to the table. Under the hood you find a 1.7 Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon 400 processor which is paired with 1GB of RAM. A 5MP camera is located at the back of the phone while a 0.3MP shooter can be seen up front. The 6 inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 and has a Gorilla Glass 3 coating on top. Owing to the large display, an additional column of tiles can be pinned on the screen. The phone ships with the Lumia Black update that brings several Nokia specific additions to the OS.

Sony Mobile has released the Timeshift burst app on Google Play that would let users with select (Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Tablet Z) Xperia users to use the feature. This app captures 61 frames in 2 seconds starting even before you press the shutter, just like HTC One. Once it is captured, you can scroll back and forth to select the perfect image. It also comes pre-loaded in new smartphones such as Xperia T2.
This application is perfect for action shots of moving subjects, says Sony. The app also lets you keep all that 61 images that it capture,s if you need them.

Xolo just launched their Xolo Q3000 and it is their latest flagship device. The Xolo Q3000 is a huge device and has a 5.7inch Full HD 1080p display. With a quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor under the hood, it joins the league of MediaTek powered Full HD smartphones in the mid-range segment. The Xolo Q3000 is a solidly build device, but is just too big for most people. Like most phones that it competes with, it comes with a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP camera on the front.

Huawei has launched the Ascend P6 S, the successor of last year's Ascend P6 in China. It has a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display based on in-cell LCD screen technology, similar to the Ascend P6, but this one is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with Huawei's own Emotion UI 2.0 on top. It is not clear if this uses quad-core Huawei HiSilicon processor.
It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, F2.0 aperture and 1080P full HD video recording and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It is slightly thicker than the P6, but weighs 120 grams, similar to the P6. It also comes with dual SIM support with dual standby.

Intel has introduced its first Android-based Education Tablet reference design aimed at students and schools. The tablet has Education materials for students, and tools for teachers to manage e-learning classrooms. It is a part of Intel Education Solutions which has Intel Education Software that includes tools for 21st century learning, communication, collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking and literary skills. This tablet is rugged, which can withstand 70 cm drop, has IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.
It has also introduced classmate PC running on Windows 8.1 and Intel Celeron processor N2806 at the Bett 2014 in London, which is also aimed at education.

Samsung finally started rolling out Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Note 3 last week. According to a new report from Android Geeks, the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 devices would get the KitKat update by the end of March. Even though the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 got the Android 4.3 update in India back in November 2013, soon after it rolled out for the Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy S3 got the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update just few weeks back, after a long delay.
Even though the Android 4.3 to 4.4 is just a minor upgrade, the update is just available for the Note 3 only in two countries so far. The new Android 4.4.2 update for these devices would bring new Status bar icons, new printing feature in settings,new full-screen immerse mode, performance improvements and more.
The update is expected to roll out for the Note 3 users gradually, while the Galaxy S4 users continue to wait, even though we had already seen some leaked KitKat firmwares for the device. It would be a great treat for Samsung users, if Samsung rolls out the KitKat update for these devices by March.

One of the features that wasn't upgraded in the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 over its predecessor was its 8MP camera. The Galaxy Grand 2 comes with same set of camera specifications and features. According to the leak, the Galaxy Note 3 Neo would go on pre-order for 599 Euros (~Rs. 50,000). According to the date on the phone, it is expected to be announced on 27th January 2014, which is next Monday. It is expected to be showcased at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona next month.
Micromax has announced that they have started their operations in Russia by launching new Canvas and Bolt smartphones in the country. The company would be operating through a partnership with VVP Group, one of the leading distributors in Russia. It would launch 14 products in the Russian market in the initial phase. It had launched two new Canvas smartphones, the Micromax Canvas Beat A114R and the Canvas Social A94 in Russia.
The Canvas Beat A114R is a variant of the Canvas 2.2 A114 that was launched last month, but this has a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM23550 processor with Vidcore IV GPU similar to the Canvas Mad A94 and packs a 1900 mAh battery. The Canvas Social A94 is exactly similar to the Micromax Canvas Mad A94 that was launched in India last week, but this doesn't have the Mad app. These phones would come pre-loaded with Viber, instant messaging app, Facebook, Twitter and M!Live.

One thing Nokia has found it tough, is to keep the Nokia Normandy under covers. There have been numerous leaks about the device and there were also rumors that the device was shelved, but it turns out that the latest development suggests that Nokia will indeed be launching the Normandy. Nokia Normandy had been identified as Nokia A110 running on Android 4.4 KitKat by GSMArena, now it has leaked at Indonesian FCC.
Nokia Normandy is internally codenamed - RM-980 and that is what is seen in the FCC documents. A couple of weeks back, supposed screenshots from Nokia Normandy were leaked and you can check them out right below.
As you can see from the screenshots, the Nokia Normandy aka Nokia A11o runs on the latest version of Android - 4.4 KitKat. Based on the rumors about its entry-range specifications, speculations are that it will sport a Snapdragon 200 processor.
So far, the Nokia Normandy has leaked enough times making us wonder when will it hit the market.
The transition of Nokia's Device and Services division over to Microsoft is about to be completed and the Finnish company has revealed its financial results for Q4 2013. While there has been an operating profit of Eur 408 million, this was mainly because of its NSN equipment business. Interestingly, the company declined to share numbers for sales of Windows Phone running devices however it did mention that there has been a decline over the previous quarter.
Nokia has blamed intense competition at the lower end of the spectrum for the drop in sales of both smart devices and mobile phones. Increasingly, it looks like the decision to hand over device operations to Microsoft was a good one from a financial perspective.
“The sequential decline in discontinued operations net sales in the fourth quarter 2013 was primarily due to lower Smart Devices net sales. Our Smart Devices net sales were affected by competitive industry dynamics including the strong momentum of competing smartphone platforms. On a sequential basis, Mobile Phones net sales were approximately flat,” said Nokia .

Samsung Galaxy S III Neo+ (GT-I9300I) that got certified in Tenna and FCC last month has gone official in China through Samsung website listing. It has dual SIM support with dual standby and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. Other features are similar to the Galaxy S3 including a 4.8-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD Super AMOLED display, 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. It is 8.6mm thick and weighs 132 grams.

When the Nokia Lumia 520 was launched at the Mobile World Congress event last year, not many knew that the company just introduced its first best seller in the Lumia series. It went on to become the most popular Windows Phone ever made, for the fantastic value it offered for the money. But there was one longstanding issue that Nokia had to fix, the small amount of RAM that denied a lot of people new games and apps that were trickling down to Windows Phone.
So, in the series of upgrades that Nokia delivered to existing hardware with small changes, aka adding a 5 to the model number and re-releasing it, we now have the Lumia 525 that fixes the one issue that most wanted fixed.
