The long wait is finally coming to an end, with today's launch of the much expected and awaited camera flagship from Nokia. Ever since the Nokia 808 launched in February 2012, the device has been unanimously praised as the world's best camera on a phone, and it has stayed true even now. Efforts to dethrone the 808 have been unsuccessful till now, even with Nokia's other PureView's cameras, but that was not really their notion anyway. The Nokia 808 PureView phase I, it was called, once the Nokia Lumia 920 released with other capabilities, which was denoted as PureView phase II. Reported claims of specifications, images, hardware shots, accessories have all leaked out to the internet way before the device has even officially launched. So, what do we know about it till now? Reliance Communications (RCom) has announced that they would sell the Apple iPhone 5 from today through their stores. Reliance has also announced bundled plans starting at a Rs. 304 that would offer both free minutes and 3G data. The Rs. 304 plan offers 100 minutes of voice calls and 2GB of free 3G data per month. Both Airtel and Aircel started selling the iPhone 5 in India last November with data plans. Reliance doesn't offer free SMS in the plan. The iPhone 5 is priced at Rs.45,500 for the 16GB, Rs.52,500 for the 32GB and Rs. 59,500 for the 64GB versions which is the same as the launch price.

All these plans are available for all the variants of the iPhone 5 including for both the new and old customers. The plan would also come with free access to Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp for a period of 3 months. Reliance would sell the phone through the Reliance World and Reliance Mobile Stores and offers Premium numbers to customers buying the iPhone 5 from within the first 3 days from today.
BlackBerry announced last year that the BlackBerry PlayBook would get the latest BlackBerry 10 update. The company's CEO Thorsten Heins even confirmed earlier this year at the BlackBerry 10 launch that they plan to upgrade all existing PlayBooks to BlackBerry 10. Now BlackBerry has announced that it will not be upgrading the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to BlackBerry 10. The CEO confirmed it in the company's investor call earlier today. BlackBerry reported a loss in its first quarter results for the 3 months ended June 1, 2013.
Both the BlackBerry 10 and the PlayBook OS are based on the QNX operating system. Thorsten Heins added that the tablet would not get the BlackBerry 10 update due to performance and user experience concerns. The company did not discuss the long-term future of the PlayBook, but it said they would continue to support the tablet's existing operating system. During the Quarter the company shipped just 100,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
Android 4.3 that is yet to be released has leaked from a Google Play edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Google Play Editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One went on sale in the U.S. few days back. It would not be shipped until 9th July, but some got early access to the device. Sammobile obtained the screenshots that revealed the Galaxy S4 running stock Android 4.3. Later they released the stock ROM of the Android 4.3 for the Snapdragon version of the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505).
The Android 4.3 with the build number JWR66N in the device is a test build firmware for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G) which is fully functional Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505), says Sammobile. This doesn't have any changes from the Android 4.2.2 running on the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4. Flashing this ROM will void your warranty, so try it at your own risk.
This has a new camera app that leaked recently, new live wallpaper , Bluetooth Low Energy support and more that are not available on the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) that was released for the Nexus devices earlier this year. The Android 4.3 is rumored to roll out for the Nexus devices this July.

Blackberry pushed out its quarterly earnings report yesterday and the news is disappointing for the most part. Covering financial quarter 1 for 2014 ie from March to May 2013, the smartphone manufacturer has increased its revenues from $2.8 billion to $3.1 billion. The company has lost a total of $84 million which amounts to about 13 cents per share. Total device shipments were 6.8 million of which just about 40% were BB10 based devices. This brings combined shipments for the Z10 and Q10 to a very disappointing 2.7 million units.
Shipments for the company's Playbook tablet too was reported at under 100,000 units. Blackberry announced that the Playbook will not be updated to BB10 as had been promised. The company refused to give a breakdown between the shipment numbers of BB10 devices. The market has responded to Blackberry's financial results and stocks were down 28%. Overall the results are quite damning for the company and we'll be quite interested to see how they aim to counteract this. Blackberry has given an outlook for the next quarter and expects to report further losses.
Micromax has officially launched the A92 Canvas Lite that surfaced yesterday. It has a 5-inch (480 x 854 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display and is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby similar to other Micromax phones.

Huawei unveiled the Ascend P6 earlier this month which is already on sale in China. The Ascend P6 is is the company's flagship smartphone that features a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display, powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) with new Emotion UI that comes with lot of new features. The Google Play Editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One went on sale in the U.S. few days back. Huawei has announced that the company would partner with Google to launch the Google Edition of the Ascend P6 running on stock Android, according to a report from Pocket-lint.

LG Display, the display arm of LG Electronics has unveiled the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel for smartphones. The LCD panel is of size 5.2-inch diagonally, aimed at premium mobile devices. LG says it would offer better grip-ability and a superior viewing experience. The display is just 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel. The LG Optimus G2 that is expected to be unveiled next month would have a 5.2-inch full HD display. So the phone is likely to feature this display.
LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Display & LG Innotek partnered for the Optimus G that was unveiled last year. The Optimus G Pro featured a 5.5-inchFull HD IPS curved glass display. The 5.2-inch display that was unveiled today is based on Advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS) to reduce the thickness and uses flexible circuits between the panel and touch film, with 30 percent fewer lines on the panel.

Nokia is expected to unveil the Lumia 1020 at an event in New York in less than 12 hours. Press image of the phone surfaced earlier this week that shows off more colors and details about the 41-megapixel camera. Now a source of Unleashthephones have revealed complete specifications of the device and WP Central says they can confirm the specs with their sources. The phone would come with a 4.5-inch display similar to the Lumia 925, but it would also have a 6 element smartphone lens and HAAC mics for rich recording similar to the device. We had already seen the leaked press render for the Motorola Droid Ultra (XT1080) and the Droid Maxx (XT1080M). Now the popular twitter user evleaks has leaked the image of the Droid mini (XT1030) posing along with the Droid Ultra and the Droid Maxx, as a family. The Droid Ultra and the Droid Maxx are rumored to feature a 5-inch display, so the Droid mini is likely to feature a smaller display. The display would have gorilla glass protection and the phone would have kevlar body. All these have capacitive touch buttons.
Android central leaked an image of story board for the Motorola Droid Ultra for Verizon that reveals the launch date as 8th August 2013. So the other devices might also head to Verizon on the same date. Motorola started teasing the Moto X (XT1060) earlier this month as the first smartphone that you can design yourself. Custom panels for the device leaked recently.
We still don't have complete specifications of these devices. Hope Motorola would announce the launch event soon.

Sony has started sending out press invites for their press conference at IFA 2013 scheduled for 4th September. It doesn't leave any hint unlike the Germany or Paris invites where they showed off the Xperia Z Ultra which was unveiled at the Shanghai event ahead of these. Sony Xperia i1 Honami was expected to be announced at one of those events, but we did not see it.
Samsung is also expected to unveil the Note 3 at the IFA 2013 or few weeks ahead of IFA. So it would pretty interesting to see the two companies compete with their next flagship device. The phone is rumored to feature a 5.0-inch 1920×1080 Triluminos, OptiContrast, X-Reality Engine, powered by a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM and 3000 mAh battery, but the main highlight would be the 20MP camera with Mobile BIONZ Image processing. The is also expected to come with new software features and new Camera UI.

At an event in New York, Nokia has just announced the long awaited Lumia 1020. The phone combines the stunning 41MP sensor seen first on the PureView 808 with the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) system of the Lumia 920 to create an imaging powerhouse. An improvement over the 808's sensor is the back side illumination technology built in.The phone saves both full resolution as well as an oversampled image simultaneously when you shoot. The oversampled image combines 7 adjoining pixels to create a super pixel with greater detail, clarity and extremely low noise. The optical image stabilization system uses ball bearings to keep video absolutely stable. The Xenon flash helps to achieve that in low light conditions. The Lumia 1020 uses the new six lens optical system that should allow for superior image quality. To take advantage of the advanced hardware on the handset, Nokia has built a new Pro Cam application that gives the user full control over the camera including manual exposure, focus and shutter speed controls. The phone will be exclusive to AT&T in the US and will be available in yellow, white and black colors.

In a teeny tiny statement on Nokia's Press site, it has been mentioned that the much awaited video based social network Vine is coming to Windows Phone 8 soon, in the official form. Along with Vine, the different social network Path and the best mobile magazine experience Flipboard too is coming to Windows Phone 8 very soon, Nokia announced. It was revealed in Microsoft's //build/ conference that Flipboard will be coming to Windows 8 and it was then revealed to the press that it was coming to Windows Phone 8 too. With these popular apps coming to the Windows Phone 8, will it finally be relevant at least across casual users? We'll see.

I just got my hands on the shiny new Nokia Lumia 1020 with some brilliant camera features. The camera is a 41 Megapixel Pureview camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It feels slightly heavy at 158g but a lot lighter than the Lumia 920 and slightly more than the 925. Watch the hands on video below.

Interestingly we were more interested in the back of the phone rather than the front but here is a shot of of the front of the phone with a 4.5 inch AMOLED screen with a 1280 x 768 resolution screen.
Here is the 1020 from the side , not too thick for a camera phone at 10.4mm. This is super thin if you compare it to something like a PureView 808. You have the dedicated camera key , power lock key and the volume rocker.
