Google with this year's Pixel 3 is advancing the level of security it offers for its users. It introduced a new Titan M which is an enterprise-grade security chip custom built for Pixel 3 to secure your most sensitive on-device data and operating system. Google says that it took the best features from the Titan chip used in Google Cloud data centers and tailored it for mobile. To protect Android from outside tampering, Google has integrated the Titan M into Verified Boot. Titan M helps the bootloader to make sure that you’re running the right version of Android. Specifically, Titan M stores the last known safe Android version and prevents “bad actors” from moving your device back to run on an older, potentially vulnerable, version of Android behind your back. Titan M also prevents attackers from attempting to unlock the bootloader. Pixel 3 also uses Titan M to verify your lock screen passcode. It makes the process of guessing multiple password combinations harder by limiting the number of login attempts. Only upon successful verification of your passcode will Titan M allow for decryption. Additionally, the secure flash and fully independent computation of Titan M makes it harder for an attacker to tamper to gain the ...

Google kickstarted the Playtime, an annual global event series where the company announced that Android app bundle is Android's new publishing format, with which developers can more easily deliver a great experience in a smaller app size since it is a deciding factor for higher conversation rates.  Thousands of app bundles are already in production, with an average size reduction of 35%. App bundles will now be average 8% smaller on download and 16% smaller on the device on Marshmallow devices with no additional developer work. These new savings come from supporting uncompressed native libraries, which eliminates the need to store multiple copies on the device. It also allows you to upload large app bundles with installed APK sizes of up to 500MB without needing to use expansion files. This feature is in early access and Google said that it will roll it out to all developers in the future. Google says that it is using Android App bundle to solve instant app issue where developers had to publish both an instant app and an installable app. With Android Studio 3.2, developers could publish instant-enabled bundles but are still required to publish a primary app bundle. Smartphone space is growing at a rapid pace, we have two types of designs; one where smartphones embrace the notch and there is Samsung which is minimizing the bezels on all corners without a notch. Off late, we have been seeing water-drop notch replacing the regular notch and we have Samsung that is working on eliminating even that by including in-display cameras and sensors. 1.FoD, that is, the fingerprint technology under the screen. 2. UPS, under-screen sensor (including camera) technology. 3.HoD, the touch-sensitive touch-sensitive technology. 4.SoD, screen sound technology. UPS!UPS! — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) October 19, 2018 At the 2018 Samsung OLED Forum, the company has announced that it is working on OLED-related technologies as well including the fingerprint under the display, under-screen sensor (including camera) technology, touch-sensitive technology, and screen sound technology. This particular idea isn't new for the words, but since Samsung is actively working on it, we hope it becomes a reality in the near future. This new technology will hide the front camera underneath the display and the company is said to be testing on a hand full of prototypes using this technology which might retail in 2020. With rumors surrounding around the Galaxy S10 including an in-display fingerprint sensor, and the technology being in the early ...

Google Chrome get a new "self-share" feature that provides a more obvious workflow that would allow users to share tabs between mobile and desktop. There is another feature that is coming to Chrome to censor the content in media notifications on Android in Incognito Mode. The Google Chrome "self-share" feature flag hasn't been merged in just yet, so it is unclear when the feature might end up in Chrome. However, the functionality is described in an informal message between developers attached to the change log: "I put together a quick feature flag to start working on a prototype for sharing URLs between mobile and desktop chrome." The flag description found by Chrome Story elsewhere in the Gerrit also confirms: "Allows users to post tabs from Android devices to allow other synced computer to reopen those same." The media notification changes spotted seems to be exclusive to Android and are logical. Currently, the media notifications for content playback from an Incognito tab display metadata like video/audio title, URL, artist/channel, a background image, etc. However, this will change soon and the media playback notifications coming from Incognito windows will be hidden, and would merely show "A site is playing media" with the playback controls. Since this change has already made its way ...

Google a couple of days ago announced that it would charge Android manufacturers to use its app suite in Europe. According to documents obtained by 'The Verge,' a confidential fee schedule shows the cost as high as $40 per device to install the “Google Mobile Services” suite of apps, which includes the Google Play Store. Furthermore, the new fees vary depending on country and device type, and it would apply to devices activated on or after February 1st, 2019. Alternatively, manufacturers can choose not to pay the fee as Google is also offering separate agreements to cover the licensing costs for companies that choose to install Chrome and Google search on their devices, according to sources. Google’s licensing terms are changing in Europe later this month on account of a European Commission fine over misusing its position and forcing its apps on Android manufacturers. The leaked document said: "FEES VARY BY PIXEL DENSITY, PUTTING HIGHER COSTS ON HIGHER-END PHONES." EU countries are divided into three tiers, with the highest fees coming in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands. In those countries, a device with a pixel density higher than 500 ppi would have to pay a $40 fee to license Google’s suite of apps. ...

Samsung back in September last year announced that it is working on 7LPP (Low Power Plus) with EUV (extreme ultra violet) lithography technology for smartphones that is targeted for initial production in the second half of 2018. Earlier this Feburary it announced that it is building new EUV (extreme ultraviolet) line in Hwaseong, Korea. Earlier this week the company started wafer production of its revolutionary process node, 7LPP, the 7-nanometer (nm) LPP (Low Power Plus) with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology. The EUV system, which utilizes extreme ultraviolet technology, can perform photolithography process by using a light source with EUV wavelength. In the world of chip manufacturing, realizing finer circuits is vital as it enables integration of more components inside a chip, which helps build those with higher power and energy efficiency. Upcoming EUV scanners will utilize EUV radiation at a 13.5nm wavelength, less than 1/14 of what current ArF excimer laser scanners are able to provide. EUV uses 13.5nm wavelength light to expose silicon wafers as opposed to conventional argon fluoride (ArF) immersion technologies that are only able to achieve 193nm wavelengths and require expensive multi-patterning mask sets. EUV enables the use of a single mask to create a silicon wafer layer where ArF can ...
